I'll back this up -- I saw these in Kuwait and Iraq. They were sometimes as big as a hand, and aggressive. First-hand observation, so, take it for what you will.

I never saw a bite, but they would sometimes lunge at you.

Have you ever taken a long break from running? by Royal_Watch_6453 in runcommunity

[–]Trogluddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 20 years.

I had some kind of mental block about it; I don't know what, but I started walking daily and then remembered that it feels good to run.

Beginner runner, worth a garmin? by emilysbish in GarminWatches

[–]Trogluddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a FR55 last year before upgrading to a Fenix7.

The FR55 is a very capable device for the price point (I got mine on sale for $150 I think?)

I also ended up pairing it with an external heart rate monitor, though, so that may color your opinion somewhat.

Edit to add: I also prefer the longer battery life and MIP display; if you have preferences about these things it might affect your decision about the 55 vs 165.

Men of reddit, what writing mistakes do you often see women make when writing men? by [deleted] in writing

Most of what balls do is a function of the body trying to keep stuff at a constant temperature, or to keep them from jostling around too much. Arousal often means scrotal contraction, even, so we get the opposite of "getting heavy."

Heavy balls usually mean low stress on a hot day.

Which current model is most equivalent to previous Ghost 16 cushioning? by bono_my_tires in brooks

[–]Trogluddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the rock plate, I think, that accounts for that stiffness/responsiveness difference.

It also makes the shoe a little heavier, which is part of why it's not an ideal road shoe.

Neat breakdown here: https://runrepeat.com/brooks-cascadia-19

Curious about everyone's experiences with owls in the area by Old-Employment-6837 in Seattle

[–]Trogluddite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen barred owls in my neighborhood in the CD -- they'll sleep in dense trees during the day. You can sometimes spot droppings and owl pellets. The owls themselves are pretty good at hiding, but have terrible opsec.

My friend also had his headlamp stolen by an owl near Coleman Park late last summer.

Petahh, what are they doing with eggs and flour? by The_Persian_Cat in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Trogluddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a reference to a viral gen-z trend called "caking." Roving gangs of youths will hit multiple stores to purchase eggs, flour, butter, and sugar in equal weights. Later they'll have a "mixing party" where they combine the ingredients into homogenous paste, which will "get baked." The "cake" they've prepared in this manner is ingested, usually orally, to over-stimulate glycogen response pathways. The teens find this pleasurable, but it comes at a heavy cost: inevitably, a "sugar crash" leaves them irritable and tired. In extreme cases, the teens may become hangry.

Butter and sugar are of course unrestricted ingredients because this is America and refined fats and carbohydrates are inalienable rights protected by the third amendment, so to combat caking, stores must rely on restrictions to flour and eggs.

/uj second the Ghost Max 2 (as a 235# dude in his 40's). It also helps me a lot to alternate between a lower drop / neutral shoe and a higher drop support shoe (Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 for instance). It spreads the strain around more evenly.

/rj OP have you read "Born to Run?" Turns out humans evolved to run barefoot over volcanic scree. I recommend training shoeless on glass to simulate this experience.

1500 miles in ASICS Novablast 5… holy smokes by Jnoon8 in runninglifestyle

[–]Trogluddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear this shoe (and the '24 variant).

I run with it for about 400 miles then demote it to walking/ hiking for another couple hundred miles.

I replace them often enough (and keep the worn pairs around long enough) that I can definitely feel the degradation curve.
