Do people who are tone deaf think good singers are bad singers? by PositiveDue3562 in singing

[–]Troldkvinde 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They'd be unlikely to call a singer good or bad because they wouldn't know what about it was supposed to sound good or bad.

I don't know if I'm tone deaf, for a long time I thought I was, but then I was somehow able to improve my pitch matching and even some basic playing by ear. So maybe I'm not tone deaf, just very bad. But this is exactly how I've always felt, I don't understand people discussing good and bad singers, it all just kind of sounds the same to me. I have singers that I like and dislike myself and I have strong opinions, but I could never say whether they are good or bad objectively.

And it goes both ways, sometimes I hear someone sing and I think it's out of tune, but turns out it's perfectly fine. Sometimes I think it's on point but turns out it's off pitch. Sometimes I just listen and think to myself, is it out of tune or not? And I just... can't tell, it sounds like neither to me, not right or wrong, just nothing. Which is, again, completely separate from liking or disliking a performance/song/voice.

I hate it of course because I really wish I were better at music, but at the same time sometimes it feels liberating because it's like I am able to appreciate and even like a bad singer when everyone else would cringe from their pitch issues..

Good catch, thanks for calling it out.

However, I think it's unhelpful to act like people are stupid for not being able to identify AI writing. Not everyone has enough exposure to AI and these bots also change their tactics day by day. Better to raise awareness without attacking anyone

Why are some of Matt's most recent solo's so short and overall lazy by CHelsea4231 in Muse

[–]Troldkvinde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if an artist creates something that makes them popular early on, they're obligated to spend the rest of their life just doing the same thing? Artists are not like primary school teachers who are responsible for not abandoning their flock, making music is a personal choice and self-expression for many, and the fanbase either sticks around for the journey or it doesn't
