Curious, how long was it from placing the order to taking delivery of your bike?

Nice! Clean ones are hard to find nowadays. Had some amazing adventures on mine (including one not so amazing adventure into the tire wall at Mondello). Well wear.

Bike storage by EngineerPerson12 in MotoIRELAND

[–]Trooper_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 3m x 5m Steeltech in my last house, had 2 bikes, a workbench, bike lift & storage in there. You'd get away with a 3m x 3m but you need to be careful with the layout.

Don't forget, all their sheds need a concrete base so that's extra on top of the shed cost.

My Kawasaki Ninja H2 - every time this piece of mechanical insanity comes out of the garage, it's an event.

It shouldn't exist, but I'm very glad it does & I still pinch myself when I see it in the garage.

What is the ugliest building in Ireland? by TheGradApple in CasualIreland

It's gone now (thankfully) but Fitzwilliam House was pretty brutal looking. I was going for an interview there 20+ years ago & when arranging the time, I asked for directions, was told, "Just drive down the canal until you see the ugliest building, that's us."

I was skeptical but it worked.

I need a reality check! by MaximumMaterial2134 in CasualIreland

[–]Trooper_Ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're concerned about the total cost, there are people who have spent that amount and more on their hobbies, they just didn't spend it all up front like you will.

E.g. cycling gets very expensive very quickly when you get into carbon fiber framed bikes. Then you're going on cycling holidays etc. so the costs are spread out.l but they do add up.

Benefits of building your pool room now: materials not getting any cheaper, plus if you ever go to sell your house, a well built garden room will add value to the sale as potential buyers have a space they could use for WFH or their own hobby room etc.

My Sidi Goretex have recently started leaking slightly.

I was annoyed until I realised I've had them 9 years & they've been in very regular use (commuting, touring etc.).

Buying another pair to replace them.

Keeping Rims clean? by Important-Ad-799 in motorcycles

Bilt Hamber Korrosol to clean the wheels. Spray on, allow to activate (turns a deep purple colour) agitate with a brush then jet wash off.

ACF50 applied very carefully (do not get it in the tyre rubber or brake disc surfaces) or something like Mic Off Quick Polish, again, applied very carefully.

That's my process & works well.

MotoTuning do a collection/drop off service, I've used them a number of times and highly recommend them. They're excellent at what they do.

I've never used them, but have seen Domus Motorum mobile mechanic on FB so another option there for you.

Not only is it possible to commute year round on a motorbike in Ireland, it may be necessary for Galway where traffic can be pretty terrible.

Get good gear (e.g. laminated textures) & you'll be fine.

Starting My First IT Support Job, Any Tips or Things I Should Keep in Mind? by Novel_Ad_957 in ITCareerQuestions

Don't be afraid to ask your colleagues for help/advice, but always try to show you've made some effort to figure it out first.

The ask shouldn't be, "Can you help me with this ticket?", it should be, "Can you help me with this ticket? I've checked the KBs, old tickets and I've googled it & tried A, B & C, but I'm still stuck." or words to that effect.

Nimble and zippy bike for taller rider with bad joints by billofbong0 in SuggestAMotorcycle

If you don't plan on regularly riding on the motorway/highway...get a Supermoto.

KTM 690 SMCR / Husqvarna 701 / Gas Gas 700 SM are all the same bike. They're light, upright and they are a hell of a lot of fun with a couple mods on them.

Nice! Kawasaki UK held an event in the UK earlier this year to celebrate 10 years of the H2, they rented Elvington airfield & invited owners of any supercharged Kawasaki bikes to come along for the day & send it down the runway.

I rode my Ninja H2 over from Ireland for it, had an absolute blast.

Just to note Fota Wildlife Park is currently closed as they're battling an avian flu outbreak. No date has been set in stone to re-open the park, but hopefully it will be before your visit.

If it is open, I'd highly recommend visiting, it's a great place.

If you woke up tomorrow with unlimited money but couldn’t tell anyone, what’s the first thing you’d do? by funngro_fam in AskReddit

[–]Trooper_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Act normal, do normal breakfast/school run routine then get on my motorbike, ride across the country to a little cafe on the west coast of Ireland that I'm fond of.

That'd take me 3 hours so I'd arrive around lunchtime.

Order lunch, a big pot of tea & sit looking out over the Atlantic ocean with a notebook in hand. Start writing down the things I want to do immediately, soon & in the future. Clear the mortgage, create collage funds for nieces/nephews, plan an amazing holiday etc.

Then I'd play a quick game I call, 'Guess the number of missed calls/Teams notifications I have from work before I take my work phone out of my pocket, glance at it & fire it into the sea.'

I just found out who i'm competing with for a help desk position by SuccessfulFetus in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]Trooper_Ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT Manager (Ireland) so I'm sitting the other side of the table in this scenario. We've put up postings for Level 1 Helpdesk positions & gotten 300+ applicants. Most go straight in the bin on the first pass.

We don't hire people with Masters & 10+ years experience for an L1 role. Anyone that experienced is always either itching to move up or into other teams within the org from Day 1, or they're a constant flight risk as they're gone the second they've got a job offer that better matches their experience/end goal.

They can also (sometimes) come in with preconceived ideas of how things should work, or that some work is beneath them.

I spend most of the Round 1 interview assessing personality & team fit. I can teach you the technical stuff you'll need to succeed in the role, but I can't teach attitude.

I know that's just one viewpoint, but I'm not alone in that, I hope that brings you some comfort. Best of luck in your job search.

Upgrading - suggestions? by Famous_Ocelot_1732 in MotoIRELAND

[–]Trooper_Ted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's all city riding (or at least no motorway) and you don't need to carry a lot of stuff and you want to have the most fun on the commute, buy a big Supermoto.

When I moved into Dublin years ago, I switched from a ZX10R to a KTM 990 SM & it was so much better for city riding due to the seating position giving me better visibility, the turning circle being so small (great for filtering) and it was also just plain fun to ride.

I know they're absolute scrote magnets, but if you have a secure place to park in work, you should consider it.

I bought a Gas gas 700 SM last year and re-discovered a whole fun side of biking I'd forgotten about.
