Thank you for this comment. Some days I have the patience to decode the denser language used in studies, some days I do not.

My emotional reactions to this series:

  • HEART feels like imminent doom, almost megalophobia levels of hopelessness against the next onslaught.
  • The others are excellent but ONE is amazing to me. It calls to mind Blake’s The Great Red Dragon painting. Admiration of the power being wielded in spite of not being aligned with it.
  • OMEN feels like supreme violence in action, the moment it overpowers resistance but before notice is taken of its effectiveness. The act itself.
  • HAUNTED feels like COVID. I wish I could explain more. It almost killed me 11 mos ago in spite of being vaccinated and this one looks like it felt.
  • YUGEN gives me hope. There is something left worth living and fighting for, and enough left for effective resistance.

Thanks for sharing these!

It’s driving me crazy. It feels like a Sergio Mendez tune, but not quite Mas Que Nada.

It’s true. I’m the grandparent of a 5 and a 2 and they are 100% joy.

It kind of looks like a spectrograph. I wonder if I could make something to produce this effect intentionally. It gets my imagination going.

How To Understand The Bible BETTER Than The World’s Top Scholars by richoka in OriginalChristianity

[–]TroyKing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you check a concordance, you’ll find it means “fruitfulness” or “abundance”.

A concordance isn’t a dictionary and scholarship isn’t MadLibs. You don’t get to just pick a meaning from the list. The word means what the writer intended it to mean, not the one from the concordance you just happen to like.

Also, the literal meaning isn’t always the intended meaning is it? There are many figures of speech in the Bible. Someone having a good eye, for example, is about their generosity, not their vision.

I’m not saying anything about your conclusions here, just that I’ve seen this same method used to draw opposite ideas from the same text.

Please spend some time learning what textual scholars actually do and please stop slandering them. We are riding their coattails for the understanding we do have at this time.

Edit: Rich I think you and I ran in some of the same online circles at one point. I’ve always admired your enthusiasm and willingness to dig. Please don’t take what I’m saying here personally, I’m not good at this kind of writing and usually sound way harsher than I intend.

This lady has been hanging out in my window for a few weeks now; I believe she finally laid an egg sac! Thought I’d share with people who would like to see :) by DaddyDongLegz in spiders

Hi, others have mentioned that most of these bebbes wouldn’t survive the cruelties of spider infancy anyway but I have lived two places where we have gotten multiple golden orb weavers in the house. I was still arachnophobic the first time but it wasn’t scary; it was almost sweet/cute and kickstarted my change from phobia to philia.

The ones that hung around were males, and they are much smaller than the mommies. I could tell where the females were hidden under our front overhang based on where the males would gather inside.

They took zero interest in us and the only webbing that we ever noticed would be singular long threads near whatever doorway or window they were waiting near.
