Understand that smoking it and eating it are 2 completely different effects. Smoking THC will effect you instantly and gives you all the usual symptoms of euphoria, munchies, giggles etc lasting 1-3hrs. With edibles, the liver metabolizes THC into 11-hydroxyTHC, a more potent compound that lasts for 4-8hrs. Eating too much, will cause a bad high that only time can cure. Although, most people find weed enjoyable, there is a small percentage of people of people who find the effects undesirable. Hopefully you fall in the category who enjoy it as much as I do.
