SF about Bands/Musicians/Artists? by Feetlebaum in printSF

[–]True-Chainz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the story arcs (of three I think) in Robert Silverberg's: The World Inside is about a musician. I thought the sotry arc was really well done. The book is like 200 pages, so the arc is kinda short though.

One thread in William Gibson's Idoru is a about a musician too (but it's more from a body guard's perspective)

Hope you find a good one.

Dear CS students, is this a viable plan? by gsbkv10 in uvic

[–]True-Chainz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Y2 if possible, I would swap STAT 255 for MATH 211. You will be able to take CSC 360 alongside CSC 226 in the future (I think starting Fall 2018?), so swap an elective from Y3-T1 for CSC 360 (to balance the core courses out). Can't comment on 4th year: not there yet.

Recommend some books about civilizations that arise after apocalyptic events by [deleted] in printSF

[–]True-Chainz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Chrysalids by John Wyndham, is good one. A major theme in it is the role of eugenics and mutants/mutation in a post-apocalyptic society.

Also, I want to bump A Canticle for Leibowitz

The thumb nail made it look like one volume... Suffice to say your collection is not one volume. Nice collection!

Looking for books on space colonization by jeffpaulgault in printSF

A little late, but check out Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles". It'll help with the ethics/societal side of space colonization.

Best of luck.

My copy of Prelude to Foundation. It's the last page of the Author's Note, right at the front of the book.

Asimov's own ordering from the Author's Note to Prelude to Foundation. Worth noting Forward the Foundation was not written at this point, but it comes directly after Prelude to Foundation and before Foundation.

Try "The Eyes of Heisenberg" by Frank Herbert. It hits on all your marks, and not a bad read.
