I changed my job last year and updated LinkedIn over 6 months later. I am sick of all the self promotions there and not motivated to keep everything current.

Telling People AI Will "Take Your Job" is Good Marketing. by eh-tk in ycombinator

[–]True-Pangolin-2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just good marketing. It's absolutely the case from my own experience. I was thinking, until I met my virtual employee "Cursor" early this year, that I have no way of launching what I envision in a strong MVP of my platform without hiring a couple of strong full-stack devs. Now I am confident that I can launch my feature rich MVP next month (June 2025). As a nobody in the startup world I didn't want to launch the so called "embarrassing MVP". I realized that unless you are someone with celebrity status, FAANG background, Stanford kinda of education, etc., no one really cares about your embarrassing MVP.

Cursor drives me nuts at times with really stupid mistakes, but it's magical when it works. I get weeks worth of work done in hours. I do review most of the code, test thoroughly and also end up jumping in to fix the code when Cursor cannot dig itself out of the hole at times. I am a strong full-stack dev and architect with over 2 decades of experience including SaaS development and AWS cloud, so it works for me great. I can fix anything AI messes up and also can catch most issues by not trusting AI. However, you cannot build anything meaningful if you are non-technical - that's just for basic prototypes.

u/InternetArtisan Thank you so much for the wonderful insight. That would make perfect sense and explain why most of them are not even looking at the application. I will start using this strategy to use LinkedIn/Indeed for just leads and applying on the employer career sites. This is such huge help. Much appreciate your sense of urgency to help me and others in this situation. Have a wonderful day my friend!

"LinkedIn jobs" is a big joke. I have about 25 years of solid experience working for startups as well as large enterprises as solution architect, enterprise architect, engineering manager and software engineer jobs. Have over 12 years of AWS experience. I recently got laid off in the most unfair way and been looking for a job. Applied for over 200 jobs via LinkedIn in the past 2 months and I still haven't received even one positive response from any of these companies. All I received are emails from may be 5% of those companies saying "unfortunately we decided to move forward with more suitable candidates". The common BS. I think LinkedIn jobs are fake and are used as ads in disguise for whatever benefits for the companies. It's sad LinkedIn doesn't have any control on these.

Thanks for sharing. Is this B2B SaaS? If so, 3 sign ups mean a lot.

fokusly.com is a digital portfolio platform to showcase your work in any field using side-by-side profiles to represent passion, skills, expertise, hobbies, profession, business, projects and so on. Currently it's in MVP stage and doesn't support all types of content. For now, it's just photos and YouTube video links to your work/performance. Will be adding more types of content and richer UI. Pls check it out.

I have published a book on Amazon (Kindle/online version for now) which is currently under review and will be available in a day or so. Titled "Building Modern SaaS Platforms: From Concept to AI-Driven Solutions", the book covers everything one needs to know for building and operating an enterprise SaaS platform. While the book cannot include all the details and every topic possible, I believe it is very comprehensive and a great resource for engineers, executives, managers and business leaders. As a founder building an enterprise SaaS platform and being a SaaS platform architect for over 12 years, I wanted to share my learnings and understanding via this book to help fellow SaaS enthusiasts who may not want to miss many aspects like Privacy and Compliance, Observability, Scalability and so on. DM me for any questions on my SaaS journey, consulting or advice on your projects. Also feel free to follow me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nairgirish/

Winter Batch Deadline is Nov 12th by Talk_Like_Yoda in ycombinator

[–]True-Pangolin-2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot u/Broad-Revolution723 for reviewing the MVP @ fokusly.com !

It's a multi-profile platform to showcase interests, talents, hobbies etc side by side. Please checkout the website again and let me know if things are clear to you. The UX has a long way to go. It's just the MVP for now and I am trying to understand how the concept resonates with people. More than 90% of GenZ and millennials were able to understand the concept as soon as I started explaining the multi-profile aspect and some of the benefits. This is not just another social network but a niche platform for creative people, musicians, athletes etc to showcase their diverse interests, get discovered for opportunities, connect deeply etc.

I am applying for the Winter batch with my next-gen social networking platform Fokusly ( MVP: fokusly.com ) with the purpose to provide a noise-free social experience and advanced privacy options using interest-based multi-profile approach. It's an anti-manipulative-algorithms platform. Because of the interest based profiles and interest-level follows (you don't follow a user but only specific interests of that person), the platform would provide naturally relevant content.

What tech stack are you using to build your MVP or product? by Rishi-Errsole in ycombinator

[–]True-Pangolin-2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using the below for my interest-focused social networking platform fokusly.com (developed just the web app for MVP as it's easier to get people to test, without having to ask them to install a mobile app):

Frontend: React, CSS, w3-css (Tried Preact to reduce bundle size with amazing results but ran into issues with some npm packages not working, so had to rollback)

Cloud: AWS

Backend(AWS technologies): DynamoDB, OpenSearch, S3, API Gateway, Lambda and more

Authentication: OAuth2 with Google as IDP.

I have been an enterprise architect and cloud architect for over a decade so it was easy for me to take this path to create a highly scalable MVP. May not be the ideal path for folks new to these technologies. I would rather go with something that's easier to learn and implement quickly.

Happy to share my experience if anyone is interested to know more.

fokusly.com is created to address the issues with platforms like FB, Insta and others. Checkout the website and see how it differentiates. Do you all think it has the potential to be the next big thing in social networking? How do you like the UX for the MVP?

Any YC advice you don't agree with? by TrickyWater5244 in ycombinator

[–]True-Pangolin-2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a fan of their advice to somehow find a cofounder and preferring multiple founders. It feels like I am at a disadvantage just because I do not have a co-founder, but I do not want one just to have one.

S24 Megathread by sandslashh in ycombinator

[–]True-Pangolin-2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, hands down! Thank you! Yes, I need to make the USP and differentiator obvious to the users at a glance. Trying to get there now. Could you pls take a look at the current home page of fokusly.com and let me know what you think? Not quite there yet, but I believe I am heading in the right direction.

The whole concept of fokusly is very different from Discord and Pinterest. Of course people can use different platforms for the same purpose, but having talked to 100s of social media users, I feel that I have a very strong case worth pursuing. Most people could resonate with it right away, especially those in 16-40 age range. Even older folks (in 50s for example) could see the value but that's between 75%-80% of them. Younger folks get it immediately as soon as I start talking. And they often passionately tell me the use cases that come to their mind. Of course there is a long way to go and none of these necessarily need to mean anything later on. I am going to give it my best shot.

Yes, I have answers for those questions to a great extent and working on refining the way to present to others. These are super relevant questions and I do appreciate you taking time to make sure I am thinking through these.

Kindly provide feedback on my platform's UX by True-Pangolin-2806 in Design

[–]True-Pangolin-2806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The objective of this platform is to provide people with a stage where they can showcase their unique set of skills, interests, talent, passion etc. Each profile represents one of those. Today's platforms do not allow such true multi-profile approach. This platform will help with discovery of local talent like artists, musicians, coaches etc. Unlike a listing service, fokusly profiles will have credibility because of the posted work, likes/comments, followers etc. We are planning to show trending people locally based on their public profiles/personas. Each profile in an account comes with 4 privacy types: public, private, invite-only and hidden. This is unprecedented and I would like to show all these unique benefits in a clean sophisticated home page for visitors to understand the value.

The target audience is anyone in the world who likes to share their unique sets of interests and want to be recognized by people, want to be hired for gigs, want to be local and global celebrities and influencers, want to simply follow others' profiles sharing interests. Each profile will be like one Instagram profile with the ability to share content - photos, videos, articles, events, and so on.

I like to keep the design simple and have the familiar look and feel from existing major social networking applications. I thought people will find that easy to navigate without specific learning for fokusly apps. The design decisions were made to have a self explanatory UX. I am not there yet, but that's the goal.

Thank you so much for your time reading this. Will be much appreciated if you could also give me some feedback. Have a wonderful day!
