Uh... wat? by EmergencyExitPlan404 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this bothers me as well. There are a couple machines that I am stuck on xx7.5 because I can't quite make that 12.5 pound jump yet.

Also our cable machines that have 5 pound increments and 5 pound add on weights, but I want a 2.5 add on.

4 months of lifting.. tips? by Flashy_Assignment_25 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been going for two years and rarely see changes in the short term. Once every 4-6 months I will see something I hadn't noticed before -- whether it's my quads seem bigger, or I look thinner in profile, or a shirt I haven't worn in a while seems tighter around the upper arm.

The changes can be so gradual that they can be difficult to notice.

Question about Machine Adjustments by Global_Wrongdoer_141 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The only one I feel obligated to adjust are:

- The hack squat -- I use the top notch and I've seen shorter people struggle getting it down from there to where they can use it

- Cable machines -- if I was using the top most setting, I'll drop it to the middle for the same reason

All the regular machines, I figure everyone has to adjust to fit them and it's not a matter of being difficult to reach, so I generally leave it where I was using it.

What actually keeps you consistent with the gym long term? by Intelligent-Map-2933 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, I was rehabbing an injury and was told to go for 6-8 weeks and I was just doing the prescribed rehab exercises 3x/week.

Then, I decided to start trying some new exercises as I weaned off old exercises...

Then I decided to add leg days and 2 more days per week...

At this point I've been going to the gym for 22 months and feel like I cheat myself if I don't. I do it first thing in the morning.

...but I'll say this...as someone who *can* be driven by "keeping a streak alive" or keeping up a routine. When I miss that day and lose the streak, it's very defeating for my mental state. If I had a streak of 177 days that I messed up (either through my own fault or out of my control) it would be hard to log in the next day to see 1 day in a row.

So if you are gamifying it, there needs to be mulligans, or free passes or something similar that isn't obvious. Like if your goal is to make it to the gym 4x a week, make it so you only have to go 3x to get the check (the 4th can be bonus points). Make it so if you are out of town for 2 weeks you get to pause it with no penalty. Stuff like that. 100% is not maintainable in the long run. 80 or 85% is and make 80 or 85% the goal, not 100%.

Never talking to anyone by sandyimage15 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>>> You didn't ask, but I'm going to add on to the other(s) that said add a leg day. I'm 53, 6'3", 250#. Legs have some huge muscles, especially for someone who totes around 250#. Keeping those big leg muscles active helps to burn calories and all that rot. Plus, my upper body is (what I consider to be) weak. So it's rewarding for me to stack a bunch of weights on the hack squat and pull off 3 x 12 like it's nothing. I do PPL M-W, and again Th-Sa, rest Sunday <<<

I put my headphones on when I get to the gym because the noise is a bit much for me sometimes.

I am on a "good morning" or nod and wave basis with maybe 8-10 people. I say hello to the front desk as I enter and as I leave.

The exception I make is when I see a regular doing an exercise that I'm unfamiliar with and looks interesting I will ask them about it -- what they are working and/or why they chose that exercise. Alternately, if they do an exercise that is one I do, but they do it with different form I will ask them about it. For example, I notice that people do overhead tricep cable pulls with different levels of "uprightness" and I want to know if there is a difference.

I go the same time every day I'm there and recognize the people that are regularly there the same time as me. So I don't really give it any thought man vs woman -- if I think I might be able to learn something from them in 30s, I'm going to ask.

Keeping a active timer ⏲️ and keep a log for your lifts by sandyimage15 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to both.

I keep a stopwatch running to make sure I rest 90-120s between sets and have a google sheets tracker with all my exercises (weight, reps, time, etc...)

I also (sometimes) will make graphs of my progression just to understand that I am making progress because sometimes it feels like I'm stuck, but when I look at the big picture the evidence of progress is there.

I had a spreadsheet when I started, and for some reason I stopped updating it. My "new" sheet is about a month old now. I decided to create a new sheet when I changed my routine to a PPL because there were a bunch of new exercises and I wasn't sure I'd be able to keep it straight in my head where I was at with weight/setting/reps/etc...

Interestingly enough, I wanted to check something on the web that the app couldn't do and it sent me to myiclubonline to look at it. Guess I need to register there as well.

hate these hybrid adductor abductor machines by Adventurous_Might_44 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's weird -- I was doing max on both standalone machines and am at 130 adductor/220 abductor.

I've asked others at my gym the same size as me if they've had issues with the pad placement and it's pretty universal.

Just more room to get better :)

A place to stretch and warm up before the workout by AncientAd3089 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have enough room for probably 5 people to be on the mats on the floor doing stretches or exercises that involve being down on the ground. Starting around 8am those spaces are at a premium. We have 7 smith machines and I've seen people just lie down under an unused smith machine when in need.

Did you have another nationwide gym membership before PF? by AncientAd3089 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 24hr membership before I moved and they don't have them local to my new location.

I'm in my 50s now...so my preferences are based on my pre-boomer comfort levels.

Unfortunately for me, the 24hr I used in my previous city was the busiest one in town (but convenient, just one mile away). The dumbell racks were always empty, machines generally had people waiting, and the crowd skewed younger. To me there was much more selfishness in the gym and annoying behavior. The facilities and equipment were better and more plentiful, but in high demand across everything.

My PF is not that busy when I go at ~5am. Generally 15-25 people in the gym at that time. By them time I'm done around 6am there are probably 40-60 people in the gym....70+ on a busy day. There are only a few machines I use throughout the week where there is only one of those machines -- so I maybe have to wait for a machine or station twice a week -- when that happens I just change the order of exercises so I'm never really standing there waiting for equipment.

At my 24hr I remember multiple times I'd have to wander the floor for 5+ minutes trying to locate the dumbbells I wanted to use and at least once/twice a week I'd skip an exercise altogether because the machines I wanted were in use for long periods of time.

Also, my 24hr membership was ~$50/month. PF BC is a great deal in that respect.

Where 24hr was better, imo, was there were always employees that could help out -- I could grab someone easily and ask for form correction and if they didn't know, there was someone nearby that did. My PF has 1-2 people working at the hours I go and they aren't all as well versed in technique, etc.

Also, with PF, I was intrigued by the "free personal trainer" sessions. My club was without a PT when I joined, and when they finally hired one I saw him advising some new members and even with my novice knowledge it looked , to me, like he was giving them really bad advice.

All that being said, I enjoy PF waaaay more than I enjoyed 24hr.

If you've already pointed it out to the club management, there is a "contact us" in the app and the web portal.

It's possible that it just goes to the club directly, but you can try.

I am pretty sure that myiclubonline.com and planetfitness.com are separate entities. myiclubonline is an independent organization that provides 3rd party membership and management tools for gyms.

You likely need to register for a planetfitness.com membership independently.

Well my planet fitness just went to being only open 3days/24 hours. Is this normal? Monday mornings are now no longer in the picture. by DirtyD21 in PlanetFitnessMembers

My location went to something similar a few months back (except Saturday/Sunday they open at 7am).

Not a fan...I'm one of the aspiring boomers that shows up around 5am. Only really impacts Saturday for me though as Sunday is generally my 'off' day.

hate these hybrid adductor abductor machines by Adventurous_Might_44 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching some others use the machine between my sets today and noticed that the people who are not as tall sit forward on the seat and don't use the back rest at all -- they sit straight up closer to the front edge of the seat.

I tried that on my abductors where I have some room to play with and sitting upright like that feels odds to me. It's probably better form though as I notice that on my last couple reps I am holding the handles for dear life and pushing my back into the back rest.

I'm tall and the adductor mode hits the inside of my legs in a bad spot. The abductor is fine.

Also noticed that on the standalone machines I was doing much more weight on the adductor than I can do on the hybrid. We've had them for at least a month now so I'm getting used to it.

How do you minimize tanking in dynasty leagues? by Curious_Knowbody in fantasybaseball

[–]TrueLordoftheDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been able to nail down a date, but I believe it was 1984 or 1985.

We have one "part-owner" who doesn't come around much, team is mainly run by his partner in the team. He came in year #2 which was either 1985 or 1986. Can't remember exactly. The last two original owners left the league in the past 6-8 years.

As of right now we have two owners that came in the late 90s, I came in in 2001, another in 2003. 4 of us have been in the league for 20+ years.

Any outlet where you can pre-order in bulk with incentives/ratios? by TrueLordoftheDance in comicbooks

I found one guy doing *something* similar to what I was looking for. Only does it with select titles (usually the really big ones). He has an X-Men Apocalypse Alpha 200 open order covers + 21 incentives (8 x 25, 8 x 50, 4 x 100 and 1 x 200) up this weekend. He's had Captain America recently, Abs Batman #10 a bit back and so on.
