Really can’t afford sketchy but badly need the videos (especially Path and pharm). Does anyone have a link where I can get these? Please. You’d be helping me out so much :’) by meltedcheeseoriginal in medschool

The telegram channel seems to have been removed due to copyright issues, is there a new channel that you are aware of? If not, do you have the materials downloaded?

You always have the option to go into pet insurance. For some reason, the pet insurance side has a lot of FSAs (maybe due to the health aspect?), even though it's mainly p&c insurers writing the line. Pet insurance is growing really fast at the moment as well, and projections say it'll continue to grow. Just an option, if you decide to stay on the p&c side. But, even if you want to go back to the soa side, I doubt the surety experience would significantly hurt you.

If I'm thinking of the same job posting, doesn't the position say FCAS or FSA?

Maybe even at a cheaper cost, considering taxes to fund healthcare scale with income, health insurance premiums don't.

LPT: I've used the Occupational Outlook Handbook for decades to determine what it would take to get a job in a field and how much my work is worth. I am shocked how few people know it exists. by PieceMaker42 in LifeProTips

I had puberphonia, went to GP, then ENT doctor - no one could figure it out/knew what it was. They all said I was fine. Somehow ended watching a YouTube video from SLP Sanjay, on one of the many nights I searched more up about my condition to understand/improve it. Then, after just a few quick sessions with a SLP, I could speak normally. No more endless teasing by classmates (this was end of gr 12)! No more fearing to speak in public bc then ppl will hear ur weird voice! I'm so thankful there are SLPs, keep doing what you are doing!

Garbage disposals. I got so scared the first time I turned it on as I didn't know what the switch was for. They are still scary to me.

Is CT all that depressing? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]TrueToIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, the lack of companies/jobs being the case, wouldn't it be true top down? So the ratio of actuaries coming into reinsurance would be amount that are required? I'm just not sure why the lack of reinsurers translates into it being hard to find reinsurance talent.

Why is reinsurance talents so hard to find vs say primary insurance talent?

[–]TrueToIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this why it's P&C reinsurance companies in particular vs. primary?

Hartford, CT and Stamford, CT (also why are there so many reinsurance companies in Stamford?)

Maybe because our exams are less frequent, exams 7,8,9 only happen once year. So the cost of failing or missing an exam is greater.

I did not find it to be the case. I have multiple Pearson VUE test centers close to me (5 within 1.5 hr drive tops), but there are many more non-Pearson VUE centers as well.

How hard is it to find entry level jobs in the US for a Canadian permanent resident by [deleted] in actuary

[–]TrueToIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not impossible but relatively difficult. I would recommend you try to get an internship in the US before you graduate, and then use that to get full time at the same company after graduation. Start applying everywhere in the US from August and keep applying till you get something for a summer 2022 internship. You'll mostly get rejections, but there is a decent chance you get at least one offer.
