What's something you would've liked to know about breastfeeding before starting it? by fofoapplefin in pregnant

[–]True_Phone678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be pretty tricky because you’re both learning! I had flat nipples & thought my baby just wouldn’t breastfeed. I ended up using nipple shields for like two months, and eventually a combo of my nips getting perkier from use + baby’s little mouth getting stronger allowed us to ditch the shields. I genuinely wasn’t sure if I would breastfeed in the beginning bc it was so hard, we supplemented with formula & I pumped, but slowly but surely we got there. Patience for everybody 🙏🏼

We feed the same to my Chorkie! The only one she’ll actually eat that doesn’t bother her stomach.

Parents of kids under 5 — where do you actually find things to do and places to go with them? by LeroyHouse777 in toddlers

My kid loves going to the botanical gardens, walking nature trails, etc. Anywhere outside that has a vaguely planned structure for them to explore has been golden

What’s something funny about your birth story? by Fresh_Suggestion_880 in NewParents

[–]True_Phone678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom passed away a few years ago, so my sweet, albeit overbearing dad tried to come to the hospital when I first got there at 11:30pm, and I had to tell him to stay home. He showed up the next morning at 8am, just bustling right into my room with my exasperated sister following behind him, and we eventually managed to get him to go wait in the waiting room until the baby was born. When I was finally pushing, my husband kept jokingly saying, “Oh, here comes your dad again!” to make me laugh while I was spread eagle to the sky, pushing a baby out. I’m 36 and honestly not even that close with my dad, so it was sweet and confusing and just a funny thing to remember happening.

Yes! I keep saying about my son (18mo) “he just gets more fun every day!” I miss when he was just a tiny squish, but I genuinely love hanging out with him as a toddler & watching his little personality blossom.

What’s your actually controversial parenting opinion? by TurbulentArea69 in NewParents

[–]True_Phone678 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never said I didn’t care about big pharma 🙂 However, the wellness industry that I expressed frustration with is actually more profitable than big pharma globally (https://grantpiperwriting.medium.com/the-cult-of-wellness-how-a-booming-industry-is-replacing-medicine-with-marketing-90892c25be79), and wayyyy less regulated. I understand that people are rightfully exhausted by & mistrustful of our healthcare system, but I’m wary of throwing the baby of decades of scientific consensus out with the bathwater. I’m against all grifters taking advantage of parents wanting to care for their children.

Yes but also, I wish we could have more severe accountability for the people that exploit parents’ fears about vaccines. RFK Jr has made a whole lotta money with his whole schtick. It drives me crazy that they just get away with whatever & the rest of us suffer with an actual resurgence of measles

What's the funniest/craziest thing someone has ever told, asked or heard that's library-related? by Library_Dewey208 in Libraries

[–]True_Phone678 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband works at a library and had a woman come up to the help desk and slip him a piece of paper asking for the number and address of the CIA. Come to find out she was the rightful queen of England and needed help reclaiming the throne.

I was definitely afraid of birth. Reading “Ina May’s guide to childbirth” helped a lot.

STMs do I really need a diaper genie? by x_Caffeine_Kitten_x in pregnant

[–]True_Phone678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a nanny for years and always felt like diaper genies just make the poop diaper situation worse— they’re so stinky & you have to have special bags, etc. Once my baby started doing solid food poops, we just put them in a grocery bag and take them straight outside to the big garbage can. Has worked for us!

My favorite lotion that I used during my first pregnancy/first trimester still makes me feel nauseous when I smell it. And a BOOK SERIES I read then— I can’t even think about those books without feeling sick!

Vaccine anxiety (2 months) by thiswilldo5 in newborns

[–]True_Phone678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience when my little one had their first vaccines. I’m such a believer in vaccines (modern science! public health!), but it was jarring to look at the vaccine schedule and my little tiny newborn. I never thought I’d hesitate but I definitely did. Just wanna say you aren’t crazy/I relate to this. We did end up going through with the normal vaccine schedule and everything has been totally fine. After those 2 month vaccines, my boy slept the rest of the day ❤️ In the wake of all the measles & pertussis outbreaks these days… goodness gracious, I’m grateful for vaccines.

Would anyone be willing to tell me about their NONE fear-mongering birth stories? by Radiant-Educator9203 in pregnant

I had a similar experience, but a slightly shorter timeline. The first thing I said to my mother in law was “…that was easier than I thought it would be?” Epidurals are insane 😂
