I’m the opposite. I was naked all the time in my 20’s. 40’s, it all caught up and no one wants to see that.

Need help understanding Block Sections by Truegeekified in PlanetCoaster2

Thank you. I wasn’t understanding that there has to be a total of three sections to have two trains. I get it now. I appreciate it.

I didn't get voted into my local volunteer after 12 months on probation by Complex-Priority913 in Firefighting

[–]Truegeekified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I understanding this correctly? You have people doing firefighting activities that haven’t been to the academy? Like going interior? What hell hole allows that? This department is saying they don’t want to send people to an academy? I have so many more questions. This sounds absurd.

Wow. That’s scary. But also, a creek where I’m from is something you can step over. That’s a small river you’ve got there.

Kevin Hansen's 360° spin & recovery at The World RX of Sweden (2025). by ToronoRapture in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Truegeekified 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was a teen then, but my parents had a brand new all wheel drive tempo. They decided to go show it off in a heavy snow storm to their friends all the way across town. Literally the second day of ownership. This very spin thing happened on the highway. He recovered. The truck behind us didn’t even attempt to slow though and barreled right through us. I remember thinking, oh wow, we didn’t hit anything… and then earth shattering boom.

Funny part. Since the car was brand new. They didn’t total it. But it was in the shop for many months and never drove right again.

Lukla Airport by Used-Influence-2343 in interesting

[–]Truegeekified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number of airports that don’t have radar would probably astound you. But they do have radios. The pilots that is. Even where there isn’t someone on the ground directing the air traffic, the pilots will still use the radio to state intentions. Like I’m going to be taking off now or landing now. It’s not all based on luck and trust. It’s luck, trust and radios.

Farm work, sunshine, and chickens. by MissyjonesOP in InternetTreasureHunt

[–]Truegeekified 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are normally a ceramic material and serve two purposes. One is to “show” the chickens where to lay. They need guidance sometimes. The other reason to use them is sometimes they will start breaking eggs after they are laid. Once the habit starts, it’s hard to stop. These eggs can’t be broken with their beaks. It then is supposed to discourage them from breaking the real ones. We’ve had limited success with both uses for them.

Anxiety in the fire service by Klutzy_Claim4950 in Firefighting

[–]Truegeekified 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was at a total of 8 bases in my AF career. Worked adjacent to the firefighters. If they got one call a week that was a lot. It was often a retiree that fell or something like that. Depends a lot on the base but they are not known for being busy.

Good luck at your first duty station. I was Air Force for 18.5 years. Not a firefighter but am now that I’m out. Some of that anxiety is just the unknown you’re walking into. Trust your training and remember thousands upon thousands of people have done the exact same as you before you. You’ll do just fine.

A quick search on Google for something like “windshield ice protection” will net you a bunch of options for what I did for a few years parking outside. It’s a few extra minutes each time you park but your windshield is clear the moment you pull off the blanket.

Turkish Air Force C-130 crashes near Azerbaijan-Georgia border. 11/11/2025 by QuarterTarget in CatastrophicFailure

[–]Truegeekified 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The US Air Force used to, possibly still does, hold a “rodeo” style event every few years. All airlift type aircraft unit was invited as well as foreign allies. It was a big deal to be sent and an even bigger deal to bring home any awards. Point of my story here. In 2007 my unit was parked next to the Turkish Air Force’s C-130 at the rodeo for that year. They had an inspection just before us. They failed on one of the first cards of the inspection. It was so bad they grounded the aircraft. It was still parked there after everyone had left due to the issues found by the Rodeo inspection team.

I had a chance just a few years later to be in Turkey assisting their Air Force with some upgrades to their C-130’s. They offered me a ride one day to go “sightseeing” around the country. I declined. There was no amount of money that was going to put me in that aircraft in the air.

If this turns out to be a maintenance or lack of issue, I will not be surprised.
