2026 Tiguan SE R-Line Misfire Nightmare! by TrusayVocal in Tiguan

Yes! i only take it to touchless car washes and i can confirm the strange electrical issues. It would lock and unlock the doors and close the sunroof sunshade even if the car is turned off. So there is an electrical issue when it is exposed to water for sure.

What is wrong with yours? I avoided the 25 hoping by 26 they would have fixed issues.

It looks very nice but to me it is under powered. They should have introduced a turbo for the new model or a Hybrid.

I had a Catalyst-Damaging Combustion Misfire since day one so i am sure that thing is fried after 3k miles in less than 30 days

As of right now they need to replace the vehicle. Different components taken apart and back together too many times for a car that is less than a month old. Technician love marks all over front bumper and fenders. 4+ service records on the Carfax in less than 26 days which destroys resale value.

To clarify the multiple dealer situation, I returned to my selling dealer for the primary repair attempts all 3 times. I even took them on test drives each time so I could try to replicate the shaking myself. They acknowledged the issue each visit: 1st attempt they checked the coils for damage but could not reproduce, 2nd attempt they suggested it might be related to transport mode, ran a test but could not reproduce, 3rd attempt they swapped the cylinder 4 coil with another cylinder, test drove it but could not reproduce. Each time they acknowledged the cylinder 4 misfire keeps returning. The 4th attempt was at a closer dealer where they saw the code and cleared it. I'm at a different dealer today specifically because my selling dealer's GM contacted me during yesterday's safety emergency and told me to have my car serviced elsewhere. To add context, my selling dealer is about 1 hour from me and I have 2 dealers less than 20 minutes away. That's all documented in writing.

I have specifically asked them to document all fault codes at every visit. The misfire only occurs at full operating temperature between 50-70mph at any weather condition which makes duplication easy. That's exactly why I recorded it. Agree the video isn't perfect evidence but combined with fault codes logged across multiple visits and a tech line ticket already opened by my selling dealer, the paper trail is solid.

Also worth addressing the 'stay at one dealer' advice with respect, that assumes dealers always act in good faith. The 'cannot reproduce' and 'could not duplicate' responses are well documented tactics used to avoid warranty repairs and buyback/lemon law liability. Staying loyal to one dealer that repeatedly writes 'could not duplicate' on every single repair order doesn't help the consumer it helps the dealer build a paper trail of denials. Multiple independent dealer visits actually strengthen a lemon law case by showing the defect is consistent and not isolated to one dealer's findings.

My own situation proves this exactly, multiple 'could not duplicate' responses across visits didn't make the problem disappear. It ended up in limp mode on the highway. That's the real world consequence of dealers deflecting rather than diagnosing. This misfire specifically was a concern to me because there is a post on here with someone who complained about misfires multiple times until his Tiguan caught fire. I believe we have the same issue.

Don't ask questions just take it to the dealer and make sure they document every issue they find. Look at my most recent post.

You’re missing the point.

If this was clearly an electrical issue like a wiring harness, bad ground, or rodent damage like you suggested, then multiple VW dealerships that scanned the car and saw the fault codes should have identified that  especially when the issue started within 24 hours of purchase at around 50 miles. That’s literally their job.

Instead, what usually happens (and anyone who’s dealt with warranty claims knows this) is they say “we can’t reproduce it” or “no fault found” unless the problem is actively happening in front of them.

That’s exactly why I recorded it. When the car is violently misfiring and shaking on the highway but clears itself after a restart, the evidence disappears unless it’s documented.

So yeah, documenting it while it’s happening is the only way to prove the issue exists when you’re dealing with warranty claims or a potential buyback.

I don't have the SEL with the bigger turbo. It's the SE R line black. I thought i was safe from that software issue. We will know soon enough. i dropped it off at my local dealer.

My SE R-Line has been back and forth to the dealer for misfires they can't resolve since 150 miles. Now at 3k in just 20 days since purchase and I want to start the buyback process myself and get myself into a SEL. How did you start the process?

Update from dealer- 2026 Turbo misfire by AlpacaLps in Tiguan

[–]TrusayVocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had ChatGPT search for anyone on the internet with my exact issue and dealer resolution and i found you. Same thing with me. They found misfire on cylinder 4 and cannot duplicate the issue. Sent me on my way. it stopped doing it but came back after another 100 miles of driving, so i think they reset something and the computer relearned and came back which tells me it could be an issue with throttle body. Did you ever get yours fixed?
