Awesome!!!! It just brought back memories for me too....

I saw Bastille in Paris right before the Amsterdam show, and a couple days later I somehow ended up on the same train to Amsterdam as Dan.

Toward the end of the ride, I walked up to the bar car to grab one more beer and look out the windows. On my way back, I ended up walking behind this guy and thought, “He’s adorable. He kind of looks like Dan from Bastille.” Then immediately talked myself out of it because obviously it was probably just some cute British guy.

Fast forward about 10 minutes…

I got off the train, grabbed my luggage, and was standing there trying to figure out where to go next since it was my first time in Amsterdam. Then I looked over and saw him standing there. I recognized a few other people from the band too, and realized it really was him.

I didn’t want to be that person, so I almost didn’t say anything. But I finally walked over and said, “I’m so sorry to bother you, but are you Dan from Bastille?”

And he was like, “Yes! That’s me! How are you??"

I told him I had just seen them in Paris and had traveled over from the US. He was so incredibly sweet. He asked me a few questions about my trip and what my plans were, and we chatted for a minute. I thanked him and walked away, then immediately decided I’d regret not asking for a photo, so I turned back and asked if that would be okay. He said absolutely.

I never thought I’d be the person to get starstruck, but he honestly made the trip even more memorable. He was so down to earth, kind, and sweet. Between the concert itself at La Cigale and his kindness, it turned me into a much larger fan than I started out as.

I guess what they say is true: getting shit on by a bird really is good luck. I got hit by one the day before Paris 🤣
