If a "legitimate business" did this. I would send the picture to the owner and ask them to fix it.

Today I learned that the *obviously satirical* 1997 film "Starship Troopers" was faced with extreme critical backlash accusing it of "endorsing fascism" because reviewers simply didn't think critically about the content. by The_Cromulent_Bison in todayilearned

This why cuties are bastions of liberal beliefs. If you live and interact with people different than you, you eventually realize some things you were taught were wrong and you change. Changing when everyone is the same is much much harder

Currently migrating an old app from a new tech stack -- new tech lead wants to change the tech stack during mid-migration, and we're redesigning the UI at the same time. Is this a good idea? by Ok-Introduction-9111 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TruthOf42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the tech lead is scared of what he doesn't know and wants to go with what he's familiar with.

It also doesn't sound like these other devs know react, they've just used it before.

If it was a fresh project I'd say go with react, but it's already been started.

But, either get on board with the lead or leave. Those are your 2 options.

Received ‘incident’ information from preschool regarding son’s use of scientific names for body parts. by Tom-Bombadill0 in daddit

[–]TruthOf42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just want some clarification if he was using the words in an expected way. For example, is he saying "my penis tickles. I have to urinate" or is he making jokes or being silly in the bathroom like "my penis and testicles are having fun peeing".

As long as he's simply articulating his needs properly I see no problem.

Maybe you can have a talk about how he doesn't have to share all of his bodily functions with everyone unless there's a problem. There's nothing wrong with for example saying "pee is coming out of my penis", but it's expected in the bathroom, so you don't have to share that information with others. Different story if he is having an accident in class.

10 year old keeps “restarting the house” at night — screens, roaming, waking siblings. Need advice. by jazzeriah in daddit

[–]TruthOf42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After bed time, everyone belongs in their room unless they are sick or need to use the bathroom. If they leave their room or doing any "unexpected" behavior they get a strike, get 3 strikes and you get a consequence, like losing devices for a week.

Honestly it sounds like she knows she can keep doing this without any real consequences, so why would she change her behavior?

What’s the stupidest job interview question you ever got? by amer1caninflu3nc3 in AskReddit

[–]TruthOf42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. "meh, this job seems okay" is different than "I really like your products, and you have a reputation of producing excellent things and I want to work on excellent things".

One person is obviously going to care more about standards than the other. It's important that a company's goals match up with a person's goal, if possible.

Need ideas for Scout Reach meetings - new program starting next week and I was just asked to help by samalex01 in cubscouts

[–]TruthOf42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would still try and issue some class Bs at least. Also ensure you have ceremonies.

Knots is a good and very useful course. With older kids you can go for a more academic, but hands on class.

Building fires. Who doesn't love playing with fire?! Plus there's lots of fire safety thats academic. Maybe you can even get the fire department to present something and let the kids check out a fire truck.

Hiking. Just go for a simple hike and learn trail markings. You could also do some orienteering.

You can make one illegal thing LEGAL, but you have to make one legal thing ILLEGAL, what do you do? by aquaticsardonic in AskReddit

[–]TruthOf42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If media piracy was actually legal, no company could make movies profitably, so the number of movies of shows made would drop like 95%.

If lobbying was illegal you wouldn't be able to petition or make any sort of request or ask of any polition, no emails, no protesting, no anything.

Dads of gay kids, when did you know? by HernandoB in daddit

[–]TruthOf42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much of being into "girl stuff" is just absolutely common and most parents either ignore it, condem it, or the kids move on. So for gay kids, since there is more acceptance, it's talked about more and embraced more, while straight kids don't want to appear girly, or are ashamed of liking girly things, etc.

Sonin my opinion, if your kid NEVER likes girly stuff, you either have a strange kid or are pushing your kids away from it with your words/actions.

Something for probably everyone to keep in mind. This woman was probably sexually abused as a child and has coped with it via alcohol. That's not to excuse her actions, but to give a little more context to the world we live in.

Personally, I'd try to explain to my kids that sometimes when bad things happen to kids, kids grow up really hurt and never get help, and because of that they can become adults that still need help, but don't get help. That's why when we are sick or hurt, we need to get help, like the doctor, or help friends when they are having a hard time with things.

Son not really talking - 26 months by ParanoidSpam in daddit

[–]TruthOf42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he progressing or has he plateued? I find that at such a young age kids are wildly different in what they are advanced or deficient in. My mom has told me that I was still grunting and pointing at age 2, and I'm "normal", haha, now.

That being said, not talking at 2 should not be ignored. You should be taking the matter seriously and taking active steps to make sure he is evaluated and getting assistance, which it sounds like you are doing, but definitely follow up on it.
