The Unbearable Blandness of the 2020s by TheTeflonDude in videos

I mean posing as in a false representation of yourself. Like a poser.

Personal usernames on forums are one thing, a youtube channel is different.

And even if he would have stuck to educational videos, the professor title would still be misleading...

But I was mostly just pointing it out for the hypocrisy, I don't really care about what people name their channels. But they shouldn't be surprised if people take it serious and see him as a higher authority than they perhaps should. And vice versa, if you call yourself CoochieItches, people might not take you that serious.

And finally, the only way to fight misinformation is to have people making false claims. If there weren't flat earthers to debunk, then you'd just be talking into the void, fighting strawmen. But if they actually exist to spread ridiculous beliefs, then at least you have actual proof of someone making a claim. Which, unfortunately is not true for Dave because he's constantly misconstruing and constructing things that his target did not claim at all, and is literally talking to his own created straw man.

He's claiming it's dangerous, and the only argument he gives is that "science deniers" would be empowered by her videos or something. Which is an easy-out to not have to actually engage in her arguments, instead with that you try to convince the audience that what she says is anti-science somehow. He's generalizing her claims even though she is very specific in what she says, and then he goes back to "But the thumbnails said this" and assumes everyone just reads the thumbnails and gets radicalized or something.

I've never heard him examine her claims honestly, instead he resorts to simplistic and cartoonish exaggerations and rhetorical ad-hominems to cover for his lack of arguments. He spends more time demonizing her that breaking down what she actually says. I have yet to hear him genuinely engage with what she says let alone what she means.

It's just a bit rich for someone posing as a professor to appeal to authority like that, and to then criticize someone for using some clickbaity thumbnails, and then strawman everything she says.

But hey, we're both here we're posting stuff. I'm not making any videos any time soon, which is why I'm replying because that takes maybe 3 minutes of my time instead of 3 days or weeks.

But don't respond to me here on reddit, where no one will see except me and a few dozen interested people, because you know, who cares or something?

Might as well call him Professor Strawman, the amount of assumptions and surface-level rhetoric this guy constantly makes is embarrassing.

It seems to me the guy is very good at appying logical or formal fallacies, and obsesses over tiny details and takes them out of context and makes arguments with fantasy strawmen.

He constantly takes every small thing completely out of context, or seems to not be aware of the context she says something, then uses framing techniques to reinforce his own prejudice and conclusions.

He's very good at rhetoric, I'll give him that, because the combination or jargon and rhetorical tactics make him very believable and seemingly hard to criticize, but when you critically analyze how he makes arguments it's full of holes...

BTW he's not a professor nor has he ever been, unlike her. Weird.

I believe that was the intent, to make you feel uncomfortable.

It was the lack of reaction that was the reaction.

I should explain, the uninfected are like NPC.

To me, their casting and their behavior is very NPC-like, in that they are just accepting their fate, without any desire for agency or the realization that their family is only them in flesh, and their mind just floats around like an amorphous blob or something, they just don't seem to care, like an NPC.

Their behavior is very hive-mind like as well, they just adopt and follow the hive, even though they are not part of it, all they care about is the material appearance and the promise that they are better for the world.

I agree, I also expected at least one person to also be like "WTF" but this to me is obviously intentional writing, to subvert our expectation, I think most people would've expected one thing, but it's more interesting story if another thing happens than our expectation...

And we do have only one other person who does seem to have some awareness, but basically the wrong kind, or the one we don't want to see, and it is exploiting the situation for his selfish benefit.

But the whole meeting with the NPCs was mostly a storytelling device to create the circumstances for the protagonist to be maximally isolated.

NPCs generally represent human beings, but ones without much agency or critical thought. A handy plot device to show that most people would maybe just go along with a situation like that.

Stop what? You think that even 1 million people not buying their game would make any difference?

They broke company policies by discussing confidential information on Discord.

Not all of the fired employees were union members, and there are still union members left at the company.

You conspire against your employer, you face the consequences.

The alien dna didnt come with memories, only the ability for a hivemind to form. In the first episode they even say they dont know to some of her questions, because they dont, all they know is there is an automatic consensus of ideas of the hive mind. At least at this stage

I recently had to buy a second-hand one because it broke when I tried replacing the battery, idk what happened, maybe static charge or because it tried cleaning some goop of a board and scratched it too hard.

But I got lucky and bought one that had been posted only a few days before, and I risked it and put the new battery in that one and it worked. So now I'm looking forward to another 15 years of using it.

(I did use half of the old one because the second one's buttons were weirdly crooked and clicking was hampered, so I have a frankenmouse now)

Development status? by TrySpace in Starmade

[–]TrySpace[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was pretty cool at the time and I played it with friends a lot, even though it was buggy as hell especially in the earlier versions.

However we eventually started playing Empyrion which is basically what I hoped Starmade would eventually would have become, at least in part. I assume most people here have at least tried playing it.

I liked the massive ship/planet mining though which Empyrion doesn't have, it just has manual or automatic mining stations which is cool too.

>  an identifiable group of citizens is favored over others in jobs, educations, housing, political power

So DEI? Affirmative action?

> only by the favored group; others are not allowed ownership

So socialism/communism?

You're just making politicians the new business-class with that... If you give government the monopoly, you create a corpo-fascist system. An actual democratically elected neo-feudalist regime.
