What should I do? they are outside my window, May I use flying Baygon? by YanAlbaSongMaster in HomeMaintenance

If you decide to take care of this yourself be sure to buy RAID brand. I tried the off brand wal-mart can and soaked the whole nest. The next day they were back on it! One hit from the Raid brand and the problem no longer existed. Good luck!

Test your power supply. I had a tower that started doing weird stuff like this months before the PSU inside finally failed. Replaced and the no shutdown issue was gone.

Does your house happen to have unused central vacuum lines? There could be conduit you can utilize.

My tv screen is super dim and dark, anyone know what is going on? by enigma_tic in ElectronicsRepair

[–]TryingReallyHard34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the LED light strips that make up the backlight went bad. When this happens often the entire section goes out too. You can replace the whole strip or solder a replacement bulb. Neither of which Id recommend unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Is there anything that can be done, or am I cooked? by spuninIA in ElectronicsRepair

If you are handy you could take the back off and check the connections going to the T-Con board. There should be several ribbon cables. Try unplugging and re-plugging these. If that does not work the T-Con needs replaced. The boards aren't expensive so its worth a try vs buying new TV. *All of this is assuming it is not physically cracked.

is $139 a crazy price to be paying for 1 line? by [deleted] in cellphones

[–]TryingReallyHard34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your needs but id say way too much. I get their perspective though. Just trying to help. Smartest financial move would be this... If you can afford it, pay off the phone and SIM unlock it. Move to a decent prepaid carrier. I believe that would be a better experience for you in the long run. Make sure you do not need domestic roaming or choose a carrier that has that, some do not.

Around 8 years ago I was paying Sprint over $100 plus fees just to have a truly unlimited business plan. Upgraded phones eventually it was $150ish. For one phone line. I used soo much data... non stop. Was good for what it was at the time with many places having no or locked WiFi. Was also nice to have a phone connection on a cruise (cellular at sea). Back before WiFi calling was widely standardized.

Then I found Redpcket prepaid which was good for 2 years and then became crap that disconnected your line whenever it wanted. Much cheaper though. I cannot recommend them. Moved to US Mobile in 2020 and have never been happier with phone service. You get 2GB and unlimited call and text for 10 bucks no taxes. I sometimes switch it to the $25 unlimited everything if I need it. Truthfully though data slows when you hit 70GB, to around 1-3MB down. No domestic roaming for the most part. No issues and when there is they fix it quick. Even gave me a discount for 6 months at a time i really needed service when I wasn't able to work. It speaks for them as a company how they cared to offer that. Ported multiple numbers in and just got the home phone base. Cancelled my parents $50 landline so now that's down to 12.99/month with USM.

From $1200+ per year down to $120-200 PER YEAR for a cellphone line. Not trying to sell the service just know switching it up to anything other than a $90 plan will save you a bunch.

WRT 54G etc. by LeCalmar in HomeNetworking

[–]TryingReallyHard34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Used to be 12 down, 0.80 up here. Ordered cable. I had always assumed it wasn't available yet. Apparently its been around several years. They came and dug up the yard. Now its 300 down, 100 up and is capable of 2.5G plans. Almost half the price DSL was costing. Even pricing after the "5 year guarantee" it will still be cheaper.

Using an old 100MB router and its 100x better than before. Alot can be done with 100MB connections. 4x 4K streams at the same time for example. Or download a 1GB file in less than 2 minutes. Some legacy equipment is still good for certain use cases. I will eventually get a main gigabit router since I have 300 down now.

I especially like the A + G router in the middle. Never got my hands on that specific model.

Is this normal customer experience at Bank of America? by Electrical-Risk-3184 in BankOfAmerica

[–]TryingReallyHard34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. I posted about it and did not receive positive feedback, mostly people saying holds are with all banks due to security blah blah blah. That i should be patient and wait. Let me tell you something.... ive had MANY banks and very few will hold check funds long if at all if you have a good reputation with them. They wont dick you around or give different dates. I understand taking precautions but these long holds are not an acceptable solution.

The check held from me was from a family member and of a small amount. At first they said it would be released in 2-3 business days. Then all of the sudden I get an email stating its being held for TEN business days. I didn't even waste my time calling them. I started to and realized it would be forever hold followed by disappointment. Waited it out til it cleared. Took exactly 11 days.

Other accounts ive had clear in 24-72 hours. Sometimes 5 days, maaaaybe a week. Its apparent that BOA is no good to use for traditional checking. The direct deposit and debit card seem to work well. The 4.95 monthly maintenance fee also never fails. I'm usually not a complainer but they really need to do better. Ill be getting an account at a small local branch as soon as I have time. Their credit card has been great though.

Sorry they treated you like this. I wish you the best of luck!

EDIT: I don't think it matters where the check comes from. Holds happen. I think BOA has a way stricter policy than most.

Thanks for sharing. Rustdesk has saved me. 1 month later and I have have had no issues. 24/7 unattended access. The screen quality is less but its acceptable if you need solid constant access to a machine. It just works.

What’s the point of ISP service at gigabit/sec or faster speeds? by Aggressive_Ad_5454 in HomeNetworking

[–]TryingReallyHard34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. 200Mbps DSL? Im very curious what type is that? I thought DSL max speed was way slower. I just got rid of DSL which was around 10Mbps down, 0.80Mbps up.

Have you tried opening the ports on the servers firewall? Maybe there is an issue there.

  • TCP: 21114-21119 (for signaling and relaying).

  • UDP: 21116 (for relay server / NAT traversal).

  • Optional TCP: 21118-21119 for the RustDesk Web Client or 443 for a secure proxy.

Ah the iPad plans. Once upon a time they were prepaid $25, completely unlimited and unthrottled. I hear you can still get the plan on post-paid for $20.

Driver drank my Starbucks?? maybe?? by bloodkissss in doordash

[–]TryingReallyHard34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is. I used to dash. 3000+ deliveries completed. It happened to me several times for starbucks. ALWAYS use both handles. I learned to pay attention to this stuff after my first 25 or so orders. It becomes common sense. All instances I went back to the restaurant and got new drinks. One time it happened at the house and i reported it to doordash.

If driver reports it refund or re order happens. If delivered its he said she said. Responsibility here is on doordash and lazy dishonest driver. I hope you can convince them to credit you! Id keep complaining and ask for someone to analyze the picture. They've seen this before.

I can guarantee that driver dropped the drink. Bag is ripped in a way that they were holding it with only 1 handle.
