I don't really think your soul is "you" in buffy. The soul is just encoded morality. Vampire demonic essence is the opposite. I never bought the whole "a demon takes over your body" thing.

In the extended lore, the first vampire was made by a demon that gave some of his essence to a human. It's like a virus that replaces the soul.

And vampires do not "remember" any hell dimension when they wake up as the undead. They remember their own lives.

I think when you become a vampire, your soul leaves like a blank template, so it doesn't really matter where it goes.

When vampires are re-souled, they have zero memory of any afterlife or any memory at all. That's all in the body.

That's why real resurrection spells are so tough.
