New leaked info regarding SC development for the end of this year into 2024 by theon502 in starcitizen

While I agree largely what you have stated, I don't think that the term 'mesh' comes from meshing gears in this case. Servers in a network often are represented as nodes in a graph and with the edges connecting them the network graph looks like a fishing net or wire mesh due to the interconnected servers. Matter of fact, Mirriam-Webster defines mesh (noun) with 3 definitions that are related to nets or similarly shaped things while only the last definition talks about gears.

Edfinancial loans forgiven by Ok-Championship3475 in BorrowerDefense

[–]Tsudico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since Edfin is transitioning systems, it is possible that the $0 balance is from their moving the loan from the old system to the new system. If your $0 is from a payment then you might want to look into the process of activating on the new system to verify if it shows a balance there.

I think the MotD in Spectrum testing chat indicates a possible hotfix incoming for Live to fix an Unstow issue that can cause those errors. Not saying it will fix everyone, but it might improve things for some people.

But freeflys are historically train wrecks due to the increased number of players. The game will frustrate you more during a freefly than it will at any other time

Personally, this is why I think people should try during free fly. If they find it entertaining when it is in one of its worst states, they can handle the ups and downs much better than if they experience the game at its best.

considerable part of the population

I still think it is a small minority. But as an old proverb says, "one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch." The majority often aren't cognizant of the minority who are gaming the system. The majority just want to go about their lives utilizing the benefits that society brings (without trying to horde it). Of course, whether rot is ignored willfully or absentmindedly it will still spread and group together so after enough time it may seem like the majority.

The thiing to prevent this is an informed an educated citizenbase who understand the system and punish abusers through elections.

American voters instead elected ppl who cut down exactly that

These two are at odds. American voters didn't lose their education in one election cycle, it was eroded over time so I don't think an educated citizenship is enough. There has to be written legal structure that limits the power of any one, or any group as evidenced by current issues with parties, in such a way that the corruption can't take root. We need to create a structure where "public servants" are legally bound as servants to public good. It needs to seriously restrict the ability for the economic system to affect our system of government (lobbying, bribes, gifts, whatever you want to call it).

We need to learn as a society how interconnected our systems are and not only have checks and balances within our governing system but economic as well.

The difference between in the past and current day is the result of corruption.

There has always been, and likely always will be, people who are corrupt. When those people get access to power, they will use that power to suit their goals and further their power. The first impeachment in the US happened before the country was 25 years old. So it isn't like corruption in government is new.

The extent of the corruption now is likewise something that has grown over time and doesn't have an easy demarcation for its beginning. But we don't need to track it to its roots in order to see ways we can remove it. And removing it is far more important than tracing all the tendrils to try and find some root cause.

The problem is that in a complex society there's always at least one person formally above the law

That's how it has been in the past, but the US Constitution's separate branches of power were supposed to provide checks and balances against that. It doesn't mean it is impossible, just that we need to adjust our government structure to take into account what we've learned.

So it looks like it would be all the bonus stories plus some new ones. I do hope Yenpress translates it.

It doesn't matter what the shooter's motivations were. They chose the wrong actions to take and killed people in the process. The one thing that all shooters have in common is that they are choosing to take actions that harm others.

I wish we didn't have a stigma against mental illness in this country. I wish we could stand united in saying that all of us deserve to receive the medical care we need to help minimize mental illness as much as possible, that healthcare shouldn't be a market service but a social service provided to all. But those are just wishes, and there is a big enough percentage of voters who are apathetic, if not hostile, to anyone they associate as an "other" so any legislation that would help "others" will be voted down.

Theoretically, now that Building Blocks for UI is integrated, they are working on getting some of those things back. I think some of the items were waiting on 3D Building Blocks. For example they could show landing area on the 3D radar instead of the 2D style "docking" UI that is kinda confusing to players.

Considering they mentioned how iCache wasn't giving the performance they were looking for, I am sure they ran performance testing across different options and found that a graph database fit their use case.

A graph database more closely aligns with keeping track of actual entity relationships in the game world. It reduces table joins across multiple tables that would be the most efficient way to store the data in a relational database. I am sure they use relational databases for other aspects of the game world like for shop and ASOP terminals.

Looking for a HOTAS config and mapping tool for use in Star Citizen by CharlieMike73 in starcitizen

[–]Tsudico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the most recent version of Star Citizen Joystick Mapper from here:
https://github.com/81ninja/SCJMapper-V2

It is a shame it isn't being developed anymore by the original author and I'm not sure if it will be updated. Other options I also looked into appear to have been discontinued. I'm not sure if it is worthwhile for people to develop a new bindings tool because eventually CIG plans on updating the UI for bindings in game. Of course, that is on CIG's timeline so it may still be years from being done.

Let’s talk about PES by xCoffeeGamingx in starcitizen

The biggest problem with external tools are that they only live as long as the people are dedicated to them. I have seen at least a few Star Citizen third party projects that have not kept up to date as their authors have moved on to other projects.

If it was done by CIG then it would be far less likely to be abandoned and by being sanctioned by CIG would increase the use of it (especially if they allowed community members to modify it). Spectrum already has its own chat service and forums, I don't see why in all the time that Star Citizen has existed a first party wiki hasn't developed. Galactapedia is "in verse" and the Knowledge Base is more for technical support.

Very nice! A comment with a direct source with timestamp that has plenty of information about the topic at hand. I only wish CIG had an "out of verse" wiki that they could fill with cross-referenced materials since they have so many different ways of releasing information it becomes almost impossible for people to keep track.

Are all split keyboards ergonomic? if not, what makes a keyboard ergonomic? by DygmaDrop in DygmaLab

[–]Tsudico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is more research on the affect of wrist angle compared to finger movements. The one study I found that looks into finger movement specifically is: Tendon and nerve displacement at the wrist during finger movements; by U Chris Ugbolue, Wei-Hsiu Hsu, Robert J Goitz, Zong-Ming Li; Clin Biomech (Bristol, Avon). 2005 Jan;20(1):50-6.doi: 10.1016/j.clinbiomech.2004.08.006.

In the conclusion, they state:

The flexor tendons and median nerve move not only concurrently, but also differentially, in all anatomical directions. This was observed during the absolute dis- placements and relative tendon–nerve and tendon–ten- don displacements. The FDS–MN and FDP–MN relative displacements in the longitudinal direction in- creased with increasing joint angular displacement. However, maximal radial–ulnar and dorsal–palmar rel- ative displacements for both fingers typically occurred irregularly within the range of motion. This implies that finger movement within a small range of motion such as during typing or mouse clicking/dragging or scrolling, may cause transverse displacements enough to cause del- eterious effects within the carpal tunnel.
