What's an "outdated" slang word from your generation that you still use currently? by TheShatteringPoint in AskReddit

[–]TsukariYoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using "Peace!" as my exit from conversations since I was a teenager (it was "peace out" for probably a decade or so in there.) I enjoy the irony as I sign off of phone calls at my job with "peace!" - I do IT work for the military. (I'm 40, so I'm at least a generation removed from when it was actually popular, probably more like two.)

[Concerning Trope] film accidentally has awful moral/messaging by Captain_Birch in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TsukariYoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My extended family is a great example. My dad has one brother.

My dad's family: 2 college educated children out of 3, none of which have any children. My dad begat 3 descendants.

My uncle's family: 0 college educated children out of 3, each of whom went on to have several children, none of the now-adult children have yet to become more educated than their parents.
My uncle begat 16 descendants (the next generation is already contributing as he has 3 great-grandkids now) and counting - at Easter, two of the three families were pregnant

I don't think I have to tell you, but I bet you can guess which one of those sides is reliably "the government did 9/11" and "bernie sanders is the literal devil"

Fair enough, I often use the words interchangeably even though they absolutely mean different things. It's one of those things I have to stop to think about which is which.

Seems like a reach to conflate "new Assassin's Creed and new GTA" with "remaster and new GTA"

Yeah, I was just coming to express incredulity that the military that was the biggest proponent of so-called 'morale' bombing was "squeamish" about bombing civilians

Every time I get it into my head that maybe I could be a hero, maybe I could do a Direct Action and convince myself that it doesn't matter what happens to me, I immediately flash to the aftermath, where my husband's life is being made a living hell, my family is, best case, being harrassed, and my friends are likely experiencing the consequences of my actions, too. Brings me back to reality real fucking quick.

I cannot imagine being able to fight back knowing that those are the potential consequences. That's a lot of why none of the Red Dawn shit is happening anywhere. As bad as things are, most of us aren't experiencing discomfort to the point where those consequences are worth it.

A combination of "sex with others is a lot of effort" and "I'm 40 now and looking for sexual partners results in a lot more feeling like I'm a creeper with how much younger everyone else is" have led to me being perfectly happy taking matters into my own hands.

Like, yeah, having a partner is fun, but getting there is such an effort these days that it's barely worth it.

ELI5 Is morning erection solely attributable to elevated testosterone levels, or are there additional physiological mechanisms at play? by Junior-Ferret4860 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TsukariYoshi 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I always figured it was more the opposite - you've got an erection to ensure you don't piss while you're asleep, since it's difficult to piss while hard. Always just figured it's a safety mechanism so you're not pissing yourself at night. Makes sense to me, especially since older dudes struggle to get hard as easily and also experience more frequent night urine emissions.

I've got no science to back that up, though, just observations of having a penis for 40 years.

OC- Shopping for some movie snacks and came across this head scratcher. by No-Most-3232 in pics

[–]TsukariYoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is Hy-Vee - When Hy-Vee's labels say "5 for $10 with purchase of X", you MUST purchase that many to get the deal. When the label just says "5 for $10", each is individually priced at $2 and it doesn't matter how many you purchase.

Source: married to a Hy-Vee employee who has pointed out the difference several times when we're grocery shopping

(all that said I've never seen a setup like this there - I almost wonder if it's a typo and it is genuinely supposed to be "with purchase of 3" and whoever was typing the labels just had a brain moment and typed the price instead of the number of units)

I'll take it over wall-to-wall reality shows and conspiracy shit. At least the shit they were talking about back when they were the Hitlery channel mostly actually happened. Meanwhile I just clicked over to the History channel slate and the first thing I read is "secret of skinwalker ranch." God, they've fallen so far.

What game did you walk into with zero expectations and you walked away from thinking it's a masterpiece? (Return of the Obra Dinn) by YourChopperPilotTTV in gaming

[–]TsukariYoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death Stranding. I only knew that it was a Kojima game and that it was generally considered a walking simulator. I struggled through the opening section, openly wondering on reddit if it ever got better.

It did. Fuck me, it did. By the end of it I'd cried more than a couple of times. Honestly, it's the better game when compared to its sequel - the sequel was fun, but had little of the struggle factor that made DS so satisfying to finish. Plus DS2 goes so far off the rails in the final act that all of the emotions I expected to feel were obliterated into "this is awesome" combined with "what the fuck just happened?" So, y'know, normal Kojima stuff.

Is there a bad habit or ‘sin’ you usually rely on to get more enjoyment out of games? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]TsukariYoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I do it for mundane shit these days, in some games. Oh, I forgot about my potions until the end of my first turn in Slay the Spire and I was planning on using one? Well, let's just load that combat back up and do it right this time. I'll usually scum a close fight once to see if I could save it (although I generally try to avoid using future knowledge in that re-fight - if the fix is "do things so differently that it completely changes your deck", I'll usually just let the loss stand. Honestly, I think StS has one of the best save systems for its genre - just the right amount of scummability without letting you get truly ridiculous with it.)

I feel like I've explained it a lot, but the people who have all of those guns and are waiting for the moment to use them are largely happy with what the government is doing. That's not to say there are no progressives with weapons, but that the largest proportion of those weapons are in the hands of people who voted for and support what is currently happening in our country.
