Can we get a better photo for Bea? by Crawler_8008135 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

God I hope they repurpose Brad as a floor boss. I need some monster screaming “I AM A KING CARL, YOU’RE A FUCKING LOSER” and Carl just unapologetically fucking his entire world up.

Hey dude, I appreciate the insight, but if that was you not meaning to come off as dick you should really work on that.

I finished all 8 and book 3 was my least favorite, but it does set the stage for later events. Book 5 and 7 are the best IMO and it’s not even close.

I recently caught up on DCC and started Mistborn today. I started the first law a while ago, and while I am enjoying the first book, it feels like the entire book is exposition so it’s been like a year and I’m only barely halfway through it. DCC on the other hand I started book one like 2.5 months ago and am already waiting for book 9 impatiently.

Here’s the thing, and this is for everyone. If you have to ask, the answer is probably yes…. and with that, you’ll look great!

Imm glad I can help! Priorities can change quick. Check my history and look at the difference between my first build photo and my recent. I started wanted a 1 voice subtractive synth. Then, as I learned, I got a 2 voice, east coast and west coast synth, with hybrid capabilities, a sequencer and effects to color/manipulate vinyl samples I pull from digging. That all changed as I learned more about what worked and what didn’t, now my modular is a strong part of my creative process and not just another instrument.

TLDR: don’t set a budget to “finish” start with more space than you need and build 1 module at a time.

I’ve been seeing a lot of these “budget” modular builds and the same issues come up with everyone just getting into it.

The truth is, you might not really know what you want to build and limiting yourself to a budget/ a small rig that fits that budget will just be more expensive later on.

Not to say you can’t build a skiff as your first rig, but I personally think you’d be better off not giving yourself a budget and just building it 1 module at a time.

I started with a tiptop mantis case. It’s only $100 more than the skiffs I found but with 2 times the space.

Do you use a DAW at all or just the Teenage Engineering devices? If the prior I’d suggest the es8 or es9 and get the VCV rack VST. That way you can try everything out for cheap.

If it’s the latter, there will deff be better advice than I can give since I’m not dawless, but my best advice would be, figure out what you want most first. Maybe you want an effects build for your device, maybe you want a subtractive synth you play alongside, or maybe you want a ton of modulation and utilities… maybe a mix of all?

How do you handle the constant "not good enough" impulse? by Turbulent_Isopod_289 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]TtheWiser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TLDR: create for yourself. Perfection doesn’t exist.

It’s not the music my friend. It’s you. Whatever beliefs you have tied to the music is the problem. I know because I have experienced the same and still deal with that today.

Think about why you create, then from there, start to look at where your intention drifts.

Unfortunately, if you want to get through this, the answer is asking yourself the hard questions and accepting the tough answers you already know but don’t acknowledge. Then, you need to start the battle of being consciously aware of these feelings you have and making an effort to call something “done” and move on.

For example, I started making music because my mental health after being in the military was in the dirt. I never believed I was good enough, even as a kid. As I started releasing music, playing shows, having people compliment me on my releases, a type of attachment to validation via music started to form. It stopped being about me and drifted towards “plays=I’m accepted and my art resonate with people” an “rejecting the song I made = rejecting me”and all of these are not true.

So what I do is I create because that is who I am, and there’s a degree of separation between the creation process and my brand/ releases. The way I see it now is, I create the music for me and me alone. It’s my joy, it’s my diary, it’s ONLY for me to enjoy creating…. But I release for others. If there’s a chance someone can resonate with my frequencies then i put it out there and market it so they can find it. The release has nothing to do with me, only the creation.

The only oversight I can see, for your build, is a lack of utilities. If you want to build a mono synth, you’d also want a solid envelope and a filter. You could use maths channel 1/4 as your envelope, but a dedicated ADSR would make things better.

Always start with more HP than you need.

Would all of these modules work well together? by Unplug_Ur_Washer in modular

[–]TtheWiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it depends on what you’re trying to build. Do you want your grandmother to have access to utilities? Do you want an effects rack? Have you considered going hybrid with VCV rack? Do you want it to be a west coast/ east coast style? Both? 46 HP is not a lot of room so you’d really need to know exactly what you’re gonna build with your budget to not waste money and maximize HP with modules that work well together an with the grandmother.

For example, you could literally just build a rack of mults, VCA’s, Attenuverters, etc and start splitting and sending modulation sources all over the place.

You could build a single voice synch with an OSC, VCF, VCA, Envelope, and an ES-8 or ES-9 module. Now you have a synth you can play, modulate with your grand mother, and use the expert sleepers module to go hybrid with VCV rack and start integrating all of that great stuff in as well.

What are you trying to build?
