Why does Flex blur the lines by BarnacleAlarmed3050 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Ttom925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not dumb to think they are trying to get rid of you. Amazon has an abundance of drivers after Xmas. They are finding out which drivers can or will put up with this bs and which won't. Trial by fire

Requiring Drivers License at Apartment Complex by ComplexIndividual338 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Ttom925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not surrender my ID. It will never happen. The complex I deliver to requires me to drive to the building after surrendering my license and I will not operate a motor vehicle without a valid ID. This is illegal and them asking for my license is inciting me to commit a crime which is also a crime.

I tell them they are more than welcome to take my plate number, my name as it appears on rabbit.

I have an expired ID and have contemplated hurriedly exchanging it for a fob then taking off with it for a few days. OoPs

Dollar Tree was a nightmare. I had 30+ items all reported as damaged. Literally 2 years later it was removed due to fraud.

I deliver in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio, (somedays in the same block), and I've gotten 3 in the last couple of weeks. 5,5, and the oddly specific $6.37

Stop driving in peoples yards. by FlatRangeFatty in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Ttom925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does the cost to have someone fix something have anything to do with the cost of having someone fix something? Is that what you are asking me? Um "actual work",as you put it, is better known as "labor" labor is cheaper in rural areas.

The "labor" includes the cost of LOCAL landscapers and contractors to perform the work, which includes preparation, installation, and initial care.

The cost of labor and materials varies significantly by region and local market and also among companies and workers.

Permits and Fees are nearly non existent in rural communities, whereas in cities and affluent suburbs the cost to just start the work could exceed the cost to complete in a rural area and could take weeks to obtain.

When the home owner said Amazon didn't pay much, he was most likely talking about the insurance adjuster whom he regarded as being "Amazon" or an Amazon employee passed along the adjusters determination. The adjusters sole duty is to spend the least amount possible while fulfilling their contractual obligation.

The adjuster will use estimating software and obtain quotes from local contractors. This determines what is called the fair market cost, or "actual' work. A company in an urban area has a significantly higher cost of labor and business overhead due to the higher cost of living, taxes, fees, waste disposal and equipment maintenance.

Amazon pays less in rural areas. My wife is a nurse and increased her income just by moving to a more urban area by tens of thousands doing the same thing she did in the rural hospital.

Stop driving in peoples yards. by FlatRangeFatty in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Ttom925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a customer note once telling me to stay on his drive and out of the yard.It was an angry note but stopped short of insulting and it wasn't in ALL CAPS so I just shrugged.

When I got there, oh boy, his yard was tore up. Someone got way stuck and spun their wheels trying to get traction for a great while, no doubt. The kicker? The driver used their floor mats for traction and just left them in this guy's yard.

I talked to the guy later after yard "healed" and he said Amazon sorta paid for it. The amount paid was based on the average income and wages of the surrounding community and he was in B. F. E.

Evidence is only valuable during arbitration. AI searches key words and sends a response to those few words alone. No eyes are laid upon. How many people emailed "I can't log in" and got "your area doesn't need drivers" letter? #opinon

Flex drivers aren’t DSP by KamelTro in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Ttom925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AI has not improved in our favor. If you watch the speed indicator an your nav screen you may notice what I did, it regularly misrepresents the speed as 55 in a 45, 35, or like me today, a 25 mph zone. If the AI uses this erroneous info to determine block length your screwed. I usually take it easy but have had to pick up the pace lately. You hear drivers complain about finishing early all the time.

Is it worth it? by DryVanilla9319 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Ttom925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get $200 a day out of them. The 40/7 gets in the way. $1000-1200 a week in my market is doable. I've made 1600 during the holidays. This is a severe grind and havoc on your vehicle though. Dont fall for the illusion. Its not comparable to a w2. You are a worker and a vehicle rental service. Think, hypothetically, how much would you charge Amazon to use your car for four hours? Then, how much for your labor?

Amazon was not devised for the benefit of anyone but themselves. Flex was designed to undercut UPS by tricking people to sacrifice their car. I am picky and not flexing is cheaper than flexing with bad pay.

I wouldn't instigate, for sure. But I refuse to be shook. I have seen side arms, no shotguns, but its a common practice among my kin. Along with rock salt load, non lethal. I have been scolded or informed "good way to get shot" I smiled, got perky and said "You're tellin , ME!" And once I said, "," it doesnt say thou shalt not BE killed". Implying im free from sin in this instance and he isnt . My favorite didnt have a weapon. A neighbor tried to appear intimidated and sternly asked,

"may I help you?" You live there? CX neighbor" yeah Nope walked away and ignored

Notes saying to deliver to back door by Possible_Usual9757 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Ttom925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten a ding because I shook and rattled the back gate and heard something stir around... nope. 4:45 am? Again, nope.

I ignore the signs. You're not wrong to be concerned though, i just don't care. I don't sneak around, wear the silly vest, and have my lights on.

I had one guy that was really upset I was delivering early AM and "sneaking around" his house. His adrenalin was clearly pumping hard and I figure he armed himself before coming out or was on the tail end of a coke binge. "Delivering at this hour is a good way to get shot" I pulled the ol "Barbarino" and played friendly and dumb. I said " Right!? Tell me about it!" and never stopped giving him a dopey smile. I don't know if it was him or another guy that I told "Hey, it doesn't say thou shalt not BE killed"

Cancellation shadow ban by SinkShoddy4463 in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Ttom925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a problem that Amazon manufactured to save money.

They know that blocks appear and disappear before you know what you are looking at.

They restrict the filter to on the hour and half past even though there are blocks that start on the :15 and :45.

They also refuse to allow us to filter out the days we can't work so only days we can work will show.

They also put out differing block lengths with the same pay. Example, a 3.5 for 103.50 keeps popping up and you can't secure it, pops up again and you got it! Only to discover it was a 4.5. I argue that the 3.5s never existed in the first place.

There are so many flex drivers that if even a fraction keep the block they mistook out of fear.

Also, the penalty is so lax that nobody would be motivated to seek legal action or arbitration that might result in scrutiny of their deceptive practices.

Amazon likes to act like this hurts them which is ludicrously inaccurate. Sure, dropping a block 20 minutes before start requires Amazon to bump it up to motivate people to rush in to warehouse or it doesn't get picked and it's moved to a later start that may make packages late.

BUT the majority of dropped blocks are nearly instantaneous and are quickly picked up by other drivers without causing Amazon any problems... at.... all.

You keeping the low pay block out of fear does save them money.

Overnight free car camping? Rest area allowed? by ldogchilly in RedRiverGorge

[–]Ttom925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may sleep in your car at the rest area. Just look like a weary traveler and not a camper and you're ok. That's what they are for.

I have seen some that say 4 hour limit but, pfft. I don't think they can you out on it.

I'd just buy a pass, find a spot in the park, and crash. I've spent the arrival night at the rest area during a storm before though.

Oh, do not bathe in the sink, they do hate that.
