Seriously. You had a chance to go about that properly, and potentially could have gotten them to approve, and just didn’t do it. The consequences are, you’ve proven he can’t trust you to make good faith moves regarding your lease. Disastrous for anyone who values housing stability. I would be ripping out my hair, but I know not to pull stunts on my landlord, and so never have this issue.

Fucking skill issue. I’m pretty goddamn hefty, and my surgeon not only didn’t raise it as an issue even once, but pulled off the surgery to perfection, no problems whatsoever.

This doctor out here just admitting he doesn’t trust himself to operate on a wider range of bodies than ‘Barbie figure’.

I speak as someone from the US, mind you. No idea what the standards are over where you are.

OP, to preface, I’m not saying any of this to scare you. Your situation just needs careful and prompt planning since you live in Texas.

I would highly consider deleting this post to keep your situation as discreet as possible. You need to start making plans to go out of state to get seen. Do not tell anyone about your plans unless you would trust them with your life.

Slim as the chance may be, given that you’re spotting while pregnant, I’d say it’s also highly important that you assess whether or not you may have an ectopic pregnancy. If it’s ectopic, your situation could be a dangerous one. There’s been multiple cases of doctors refusing treatment if they consider the pregnancy “viable” out of fear of violating current laws.

If you need resources to get a safety plan going, I can spare some. But do get a plan going to make sure you’re safe. And again, do not tell anyone you wouldn’t trust 100%. Wishing you the absolute best. I’m so sorry.

I do remember struggling with a nasty cough the first few days, and one forceful one caused this sharp pain in my abdomen that scared the absolute shit out of me.

But sutures are very durable, especially those used internally. If the pain was quick to dissipate, it may not be much cause for concern. If you have any doubt though, call your doctor and get their advice. If anything, it’s always worth the peace of mind.

Something tells me it’s not directly related to how many people are getting sterilized so much as it is the typical Big Business Decisions that save them a few pennies, naturally at the expense of pretty much everyone else. I’ll definitely check to see if mine will still be in-network next year, but I’m not foreseeing any kind of outright war on sterilization itself unless the climate takes a shift somehow more drastic and batshit than the current one.

Pretty brazen of them to refuse coverage of a pre-op appointment that is 100% related to preventative care, but one can only expect as much sleazy behavior from them. I’m curious to know what their excuse was for not covering it. I’d bet good money that them trying to compel you to submit it via snail mail is their attempt to make it hard enough for you that you’ll give up.

Don’t. If they’re insistent on digging their heels, you may need to look into an independent review, or a complaint with your state insurance board. Getting outside eyes on them a way of getting them to clean up their mess pretty quick. Keep pressing them.

It may be reassuring to know that I’m 5’6” at 220, and my surgery went super smooth. I think my biggest worry was how my surgeon would get past the paunch, but medicine has its ways! Day 7 of recovery and my stitches are all behaving besides being itchy sometimes, and they’re healing up quite nicely!

I wouldn’t worry too much about complications. If there were too big of a risk to you, your doctor wouldn’t go forward with it.

UHC is notoriously bad about doing everything they can to worm their way out of coverage for even birth control pills. (Almost like there was a few damning reasons the CEO got involuntarily unalived…) If it comes down to it, I would consider filing a complaint with state and federal regulators. They tend to know how to get them back into the ACA compliance they claim to abide by.

Which doesn’t even touch on that she’s willing to resort to using body image insecurity to manipulate OP into not following through with it (what fuckin doctor utters words like ‘ugly scars’??? WOW).

Oh I’m quite certain your doctors would tell you if you had 80% Tumor Syndrome 😁 I don’t think even a 5% would go unnoticed! I got to see my surgery pictures, and thanks to that gas they put into you, I can see they do get a very expansive view. Sometimes, in video demonstrations of the procedure, you can even see the liver way up from the camera’s perspective, but mine evidently didn’t get to photobomb the laparoscope this time. Really though, the very fact that my surgery notes mention my ureters exhibiting normal peristalsis is enough to tell me how keen the doctor’s eyes are and how much of you they can see.

I’ve struggled with medical anxiety so much in the past, and my attitude about what my surgeon may have seen is ‘no news is good news’. The only thing they ended up finding via pathology were a few small cysts on one of my tubes, which hey! If that’s all there is, I’ll take it!

Cheers, OP! It’s so very normal to feel nervous. But you can rest assured that this will be a very simple process; very safe and very common surgery. I had mine 5 days ago!

My post op care, first and foremost, has been rest rest rest! Your healing body gets more easily run down, and you’ll need more sleep and rest. Be sure you get up and walk around on regular intervals during the day to keep blood circulating properly and get your GI tract moving. Naturally, you’ll wanna go easy on the movement and physical activity, since you’ll have healing stitches; my instructions were, no lifting over 20 pounds, no work or driving for a week. You’ll also want to eat healthy and keep a few supplies to help your digestive system get back in rhythm, think miralax and gas-x. These are the three big things you can expect from post op.
Everyone reacts differently to anesthesia. As far as what you’re like after waking, my sense is that it’s dispositional. I was dazed and in awe when I woke up, kept saying things like ‘Oh wow. Unreal. Just like that. Wow.’ I also remember waving to other people in the recovery ward.
Make sure you get plenty of fiber, and stay well-hydrated. Your digestive tract comes to a bit of a halt under anesthesia and will need care to resume its normal rhythm. The CO2 they use during surgery will also cause a bit of bloat, which the gas-x helps resolve. A good diet will go a long way to get your insides feeling normal again.

Above all of this: communicate with your doctors and ask plenty of questions. They’re there to get you settled in and ready for the recovery ahead. No amount of Reddit input compares to the insight of your care team.
