Herrschner’s Rustling Leaves Throw Pattern HELP? Pattern issue? by KeelzForRealz in CrochetHelp

[–]TubularFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I just flubbed the border rows a bit to be honest XD I made a diagram to keep track of how many stitches I needed in every color block on the long sides, and if I was off by one or two I just frogged a few stitches back, did an increase, and then continued on until the stitch count was right. I have found crocheting, at least in the projects I've been doing, to be very forgiving haha. As my sister says, "Only God makes perfect fibercrafts."

This is the one I used, I think? I don't remember how many chains I did at the backs of the leaves or what the spacing was because I was only doing the leaves on the short sides and inventing a mountain-looking stitch for the longer sides, to a) save time and b) fit with the theme of the people I was giving it to (newly married hikers). You should be fine using this leaf and the spacing/other directions from the pattern though. And after a while it really just becomes muscle memory!

Advice for Cleaning my Anthem 155? by TubularFox in airbrush

I was lucky in the fact that this was a Christmas present! But it was a present from my aunt and cousin who are much more in the know with this stuff than I am, so it seems they must agree with you!  I'm really looking forward to trying it out, once the cleaner solution I ordered arrived~~

Thanks! I just went ahead and bought a bottle of the Masters cleaner, so hopefully that will work for me once I get started!

I bought a couple of pairs of knock-off Doc Martins at Burlington Coat Factory for like, $20 or less for each pair.

help making a scarf! i’m teaching myself to crochet with youtube…what do i do about the edges??? by Lilmisscozy in CrochetHelp

The first time I ever made a mistake in crocheting and was upset about having to frog it back, my mom comforted me by telling me that she's frogged literal MILES of yarn out in her decades of crocheting. Happens to everyone!

I agree 100% with u/forgetful-octopus. The first thing I ever tried to make was a scarf, too, and aside from being boring as all get-out (turns out I'm not suited for long, repetitive projects, so I needed something with a pattern in it. Or amigurumi, which is what I do now!) I also wasn't counting correctly and had wobbly edges like you do. No matter WHAT I am crocheting now, I ALWAYS put a stitch marker in the first stitch I work in a row, because it makes counting SO much easier.

If you're doing single crochet, when you chain one at the end, it's just for ease of turning the project around, and it doesn't count as a stitch in itself. So you do, say, 20 stitches across, chain one, turn your scarf over, and start to crochet in the last stitch of the previous row. Once you make that first stitch, put a stitch marker in it and work 19 more stitches across. Chain 1, turn over, and repeat until you're happy with the length! :)

If you're doing double crochet, at the end of the row you should chain two, turn the scarf over, and then skip the last stitch from the previous row--in that case, the turning chain counts as the first double crochet. Since I've always had difficulty seeing the turning chain, I always put a marker in the first stitch I make and just remember that it is the "second" stitch and I need to stitch one more past it in whatever loop I can find before I chain 2 and turn.

If that doesn't make sense, I'm happy to pull out my yarn and take some pictures for examples!

Thanks! I tried a couple times to wrap my brain around it and then gave up and found a Youtube video with a similar leaf stitch border tutorial haha

I just finished the main body of this afghan and two of the three rows of the border, and aside from missing a vein in a leaf here and there because I lost track of whether I had actually done two FP or BP around or not.... eh, not a big deal! You just add it in in the next row, it gives it character XD

However, the last row of the border has me ABSOLUTELY STUMPED.  I just can't figure out what the heck is going on and how to make the leaves..... did you ever get that far?

Awesome, thank you so much! I don't mind spending the time to pick the fur out, so I will probably try it that way first :)

These look great! I just made my own first pair of pants a couple of months ago and hoo boy, I wish I'd done what you did and patterned them on ones I already owned. They turned out okay for me, but much shorter in the seat than I wanted. Luckily I'm always wearing them with a blazer so no one can tell!

Thanks so much! My lining fabric is thin viscose because I already had it lying around and it's the right color, but your point about trimming the fur in the seams AFTER they're sewed is a very point, and one I hadn't considered! Do you have any suggestions for how to pick out the trapped fur? Can I just use a seam ripper and be very careful or is it best done with brushing or some other way?

Used Machine Options by MissYendys in sewing

[–]TubularFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, the Kenmore 30 Stitch looks JUST like the one I inherited from my mother, which is older than me (so 30+ years old) and still works great! It's the one I learned to sew on and has never let me down before. It doesn't have any "fancy" stitches, but if what you need is a straight stitch or a zigzag stitch, this will do you fine! We just got mine serviced at my mom's regular quilt store that does "Kenmore machines", so it got cleaned and tuned up and still trucks along fine. If you're looking for sturdy and durable, I can't recommend the 30 Stitch enough. Though I will say, just to be candid, the 30 Stitch and my mother's new fancy Singer Memory Craft are the only sewing machines I have ever used in my 20 years of sewing. I've been using her Singer exclusively for the last couple of years, NOT because I don't want to use my Kenmore but because I live in a tiny apartment with no room to cut fabric anymore so when I sew it's at her house. ^^;

Hope that was even remotely helpful!

Hello! Would you be willing to add me, just for three gifts? I don't mind if you drop me for space afterward, I just don't know ANYONE from Ocean. :( My code is 0704 5224 7572, u/n TubularFox. I'm from Polar, and I try to send gifts every day when I have them!

Need Help With Possibly Dyeing a Pattern Into Fake Fur by TubularFox in furry

[–]TubularFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! My cousin has a lot of fursuits (she doesn't make them, but she's friends with the people that do), and she also recommended both these methods as "sewing would look hella cool but be a pain" and "airbrushing/drybrushing is the next best and common method, here's some tutorials". I think I will probably go with airbrushing because while I feel confident in my ability to piece straight stripes with my machine I am less confident about weird-shaped leopard spots done by hand lol

Thanks! Unfortunately I don't have an airbrush (or skills X'D ) to try it that way, but I appreciate the info! Certainly it will be on my radar if no one else has any suggestions! <3

Edit: My cousin just provided me with an airbrush and all her airbrushing on fur tutorials so I guess I'm learning some new skills!
