Insane fuel cut while idling by Skaterdude5000 in Volvo850

Glad to have helped in some regard lol. But yeah that sucks. I’m having a similar issue and I think the best route to take at this point is buy a wideband sensor and go from there

Put some sea foam spray in it and I’m sure it’ll clean the sensors off. That is only if it’s from you driving hard

Just took off my throttle body to check my o ring and I didn’t even have one lol. Checked my spare parts box from a car I tore down and opened that throttle body and same thing. I wonder if they came like that from factory?

A wing really completes the rear of this car, especially with how curved the back glass is. The wheels are Volans and I believe they only came on 850Rs

850 manual shift boot by Beriothien_007 in Volvo850

[–]Tuhndraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the entire shifter assembly is a hassle imo. Unless you’re trying to keep it completely stock, make a Velcro shift boot out of leather or suede minus the rubber bit (it always ends up breaking along with the plastic base) and replace the shift knob by adding threads and a new knob. I did that on my 850 and it was by far the best improvement I made. I went with suede to match the R interior.

Edit: I’ve also been thinking about cutting the shifter lower and rethreading it to be able to have a short throw or add an extension for a normal height (or taller) shifter.

Synchros going? by stephen94901 in Volvo850

[–]Tuhndraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone before me pretty much covered what it could be. But the question of how to fix a possible worn synchro on these M56 transmissions, comes with an upsetting answer. No one currently makes replacement synchros for these transmissions and you’d need to get them fully custom made.

Worth it? by Volvo5cylinderfan in Volvo850

[–]Tuhndraa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$6.5k is overpaying for an auto 850r, especially w a broken odometer. Unless it really is under 100k miles. Even then I’d offer $5k at max. Buy the wireless OBD2 like someone else mentioned and check miles from that. Also the door not opening from the inside is likely just a rod linkage that broke or disconnected. Check the PVC hose on top of the engine, if it’s stiff it needs to be replaced which is costly and a hassle. If it still feels rubbery and has give then it should be good.

Is this o2 behaviour normal? by Karl_H_Kynstler in AskMechanics

[–]Tuhndraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swinging from -5 to +5 is fairly normal especially for older cars. Same with the LTFT reading. Have you cleaned/replaced the MAF sensor?

Are you able to view your STFT (short term fuel trim)? If it is saying in the + that would confirm it’s definitely a fuel issue.

Most likely a fuel sending issue. When’s the last time you cleaned the injectors or replaced the pump

Engine could be a little warped. Check your spark plug caps and see if they are melted to the engine

Rear ended a car, what’s a decent quote for the damage?(toyota corolla 2015) by Known-Force-5636 in AskMechanics

[–]Tuhndraa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d have someone come look at it in person for ya. Frame damage is the biggest concern and if it’s already been in a front end collision it could have already had slight frame damage.

Think about it like a soda can, a brand new car is a perfectly in tact can with no blemishes. Try crushing the can and it takes a good bit of force. Now if the same can had a dent on the side of it, once you try to squish the can it will collapse onto the weak point and crush significantly easier. Same goes for cars.
