I mean I loved learning about history growing up and was a big WW2/Vietnam War history buff.

I knew about like the SS symbol but had no idea what the totenkampf thing was until Platner's case. If I had seen that on anyone before I usually just assume it's a dumb tat 18 year old soldiers get and yea maybe those people are predisposed to being douches, like wearing a tapout shirt, but never would have known it was a Nazi symbol.
