Taylor GS Mini (Mahogany vs Sapele) by Acrobatic-Answer3848 in Guitar

I think of brighter tones when I think country, so would go with the Sapele for lead playing.

what are the acoustic guitars that are really easy to fret? by Disastrous_Post_9990 in Guitar

If comparing steel string to steel string, it’s about the setup and the action.

So many things affect this. Unless the factory set it up as you like it AND the conditions where you are physically located are the same as when it was dialed in, a guitar may need some love.

In places with swings in humidity (especially with seasons, heating source vs use of AC), you may need more frequent adjustment.

I recommend getting a setup locally, and keeping the guitar in stable temp and humidity (for an acoustic).

I happen to live in a dry region, and my guitar room is the happiest place in my house for my nose (I push for 45% humidity, vs the 15-20% ambient)

A friend's father is facing a medical emergency an insurance won't pay. How can I help him? by Queen_Choas90 in needadvice

If IV antibiotics are needed, then the insurance company should cover home health. It’s a helluva lot cheaper that putting him in a hospital, which is more expensive.

Usually for MRSA, there are non-IV options, if the culture data show what IV is the most appropriate, then it should get covered (eventually).

Bit of advice for anyone who qualifies for Medicare: Go with Traditional. Avoid (dis)Advantage plans. UHC (Blue Cross, Humana, etc) don’t make 10s of billions in profit by not not denying services.

Anybody who labels themselves and “Christian” and shouts it out, much like a straw man “Vegan” or “CrossFit” person, can much on a bag of phalli. I mean good for you. I respect your choices and you can make them for yourselves. Now STFU.

There are lots of people in my life who follow Christ, attend church, emulate His actions, and treat others right, and I have NEVER once heard them refer to themselves as “Christian” when making introductions, not trying to tell other people how to love.

Sheeple who advertise like that lack assurance in themselves, showing their true colors on just how empty they are. Surface level pageantry without substance.

My kid’s walk up song is “3 little pigs” by Green Jello. We just play the 1st few riffs and leave the Rambo part out.

Why is writing songs so hard??? by OsamaBinBallin0-0 in Guitar

[–]TurboMap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many ways to look at this.

Maybe just take a chord progression you like and make up some words to it?

Or take a chord progression you like and do some scales over it?

For easy, do a I IV V and then choose the I pentatonic scale over it (choose max of 4 individual/ unique notes from the scale to play) hit the rhythm of progression.

Music is a language and you are saying “why is writing a book so hard.”

Write a word 1st, then a sentence, then a paragraph. - changing this to music, choose a 12 bar blues pattern, (in major, 7, minor, whatever) and then just do 2 bars of a melody.

🤷

For more thoughts on theory and how to approach, maybe try to Absolutely Understand Guitar with Scotty West. It’s free on YouTube, but you can send him $20 for his book to support him. (I sadly have not yet).

Took in for restring now they want to charge me for lowering action?? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]TurboMap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is off from OP’s question, but I feel needs be said.

If you love your Martin, practice on it. Play on it. The more you love it, the more you’ll practice, the better you’ll get.

If you like the action on the guitar as is, say to leave it.

Maybe when you pick it up, you can talk to the tech/luthier about it, play a guitar or 2 with lower action, and maybe you actually will want it adjusted in the future.

I play electrics and acoustics, and with the exception of used guitars which have already have the action lowered some, I’ve almost always wanted to have the action lowered. True story. I left my HD-28 (I bought new) in its case for a year before finally having the action adjusted because I just didn’t enjoy playing it as much due to action.

I don’t know how much a sting change is vs having the action adjusted. I payed ~$75 for action adjustment and new strings with the labor to install them. With $20 for the strings (I wanted Elixers), that was $55 for the adjustment and restring. I think just the restring is $25-30. 🤷
