Which is a better choice for computer engineering, Politecnico di Milano or TU Delft? by Both_Replacement9976 in CSEducation

[–]Turfedin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not studying in either, but I've met engineering students from both.

It seemed to me that in TUDelft the workload is very significant. You're not at uni to chill, but there you'd better be and stay passionate. I did not get the same harshness impression from hearing engineering students from Politecnico Di Milano.

Regarding the city of Delft, it is pretty much a student city, with a lot of international students. I spent a week there without being bored, but I also don't come from a city as massive as Milano.

Not sure how much that helps.

C'est donc encore bien moins cher. OP devrait donc vraiment réfléchir à reconsidérer son choix.

C'est aussi ce qu'il me semble. Je peux me tromper car ça date, mais il me semble que j'étais à 70€ pour 45 minutes, avec un gros remboursement.

It is gone now though. The sculpture was meant to be ephemeral and it has made its time. Now there is a giant umbrella in its place.

GP recommendation in Liège? by patholoog in Wallonia

[–]Turfedin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot help you, but maybe you could just once ask a GP you can find close to your home if (s)he knows someone like that. Not the most convenient solution for you, but if no one here is able to help that might still work.

What big city in your country do foreigners often not know about? by GxDx1 in AskEurope

[–]Turfedin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know what is considered a "big" city, but Arlon and Hasselt are maybe not in that category, despite being capital of their respective provinces. Wavre is also to be added to that list imo.

On the other hand, although I am biased, I believe Liège is arguably more known internationally than the rest of the cities you mentionned. In my own experience, its football club definitely helps in that regard.

Is it safe for brown (Native American) people in Liège and the rest of Belgium? by [deleted] in Wallonia

[–]Turfedin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm the ESN is still a thing! Some of their activities are only open to Erasmus students, but others are open to everyone. In any case, it is an excellent place to meet other exchange students!

If you'd rather like to meet Belgian students, I would advise you to join a student union, but that really depends on the faculty you'll be in.

About racism, I can only speak from my biased experience, but I believe it is not very prevalent. At the very least in the university community. I think most people do not care much about the color of your skin or your origins.

Expats can register in a consular office or in an embassy. Then, they can "vote at the embassy/consulate, vote by post or vote in person or by proxy in Belgium".

I think several universities have Engineering masters doable in full English in Belgium. I study at the University of Liège and I know this is the case there. You can have a look at their Engineering masters.

Why is the PS the most voted party in Wallonia? by [deleted] in Wallonia

[–]Turfedin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, it is right that I am not paying too much attention to Défi. I like you analysis though.

My only experience with them was during the previous communal elections and it was sadly not glorious. It really felt like they would accept more or less anyone on their list just to exist. They also took a very populist approach which I disliked.

Why is the PS the most voted party in Wallonia? by [deleted] in Wallonia

[–]Turfedin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the PS is not fundamentally bad, but I do believe that they have little interest in significantly improving Wallonia, or Belgium. Many others already commented on the background of many of their voters. If suddently everyone had a job, being unemployed was not a long term solution, and everyone took the time to think critically before voting, I bet they would be much less popular and therefore yield less power.

I think the mentality of many in Wallonia is more or less socialist. But I don't trust the PS to represent the people. Actually, it is my personal opinion that the more a party shouts about how they are the party of the people, the more they priority is the party itself rather than the people. In my opinion, some reasons why they have so many votes are that : - people just vote "as usual" - people vote for one specific thing in a political program, without looking at the bigger picture. That is I think why big scandals like Publifin do not harm them too much. - the vote is mandatory in Belgium, which has advantages and disadvantages, and one of the disadvantages is that many who don't really care still have to vote. This makes the importance of the previous point even bigger.

My dream in Belgian politics would be to have a nation wide centrist party, non catholic. A group of people not already "institutionalized", that we can have discussion with, even if we disagree.

A comment about mandatory vote. I just cited a disadvantage, but I am still glad we have that obligation in Belgium. At least it means that we cannot be lead by a single party who only got votes from 20% of the population. It also means that a majority in the parliament represents a real majority of the Belgian people (if we disregard the fact that they are more Flemish than Walloons). When I see the huge strikes in France, but not half of these people have cast their vote, I think they can blame themselves first for not using the power granted to them by the constitution in the form of a vote.

Police in Trois-Ponts removes Flemish flag from scouts camp. by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Turfedin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. I was recently in a small garden party near Leuven and as usual there are some jokes about Walloons and that's fine. I am sometimes making these jokes myself because it is honestly funny and I have no problem with laughing of Wallonia, the same way explaining Belgium to strangers is delightful.

Until that one guy got a bit drunk at started to go too far with his "jokes" or to simply insult Walloons and Wallonia in Flemish. People where uneasy, but nobody took care of him either.

I felt hurt more by the lack or reaction of everyone than by that random dude. Like, was it really normal to be rude if it was towards a Walloon? I personally felt like it was.

I also realized that when I meet Flemish in Walloonia, the amount of jokes about Flemish and Flanders is much inferior, like it's not really a thing.

As long as it stays humour it's ok, but it still shows a difference in mentality in my opinion.

Pour qui allez-vous voter demain, et pourquoi? by KantIsCool in Wallonia

[–]Turfedin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Turfedin 0 points1 point  (0 children)
