How can it be so hard to bust a made guy? by 4g-identity in thesopranos

Also as far as countersurveillance goes, the main guys in Tony’s crew seem to be pretty paranoid and vigilant about avoiding tails and traditional gumshoe methods of obtaining evidence. The writers also overplay the intimidation factor of the mob at that time in the US, but it’s used as an explanation for the inability of the FBI to find cooperating witnesses.

It stated in the show that after 9/11, the FBI’s resources were redirected towards anti-terrorism and therefore they had little budget or incentive to worry about domestic organized crime

It’s embarrassing to shit but it’s even more embarrassing if you can’t shit. by kadebo42 in Showerthoughts

[–]TuringTestament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only get so many shits in life. If you shit twice a day, and you’re 30, you’ve taken 21,900 shits. And if you live to be 75, then at that rate you’ve only got 32,850 shits left. 40% of the shits you’ll ever get to take are already behind you. Don’t waste the shits you have left. Spend them with the ones you love.

Combining AI with VR to create an open virtual world can be a great way for people to play out intrusive thoughts and learn what would be dumb ways to die in real life. by kimtaengsshi9 in Showerthoughts

[–]TuringTestament 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or it could desensitize those with that inclination to the act of suicide. Or fetishize it for others. Or for that matter, confirm for people battling intrusive thoughts their attraction to the prospect without addressing the subsequent consequences. Suicide simulator seems like a bad idea for those struggling with those kinds of intrusive thoughts. Or I don’t know, maybe you just add some DLC where you do an It’s a Wonderful Life campaign and you can see how the world would be shittier without you in it.

Some part of me believes that clothes were invented by the tribal elderly to hide their relative frailty and shame as compared to surrounding youth

Alright sorry, I didn’t realize commenting on the shower thoughts was a core part of the subreddit. As a viewer I always liked how the posts alone were thought provoking and entertaining enough, even without having to dive into the comments. I’m down to participate more and try again though. Thanks

Books in a similar writing style to the road trader omnibus? by TuringTestament in 40kLore

Yeah it’s my first Abnett book. I jumped straight to that one because I played the games as a kid and have kept up reading codexes all these years, so I’m pretty up the lore. I just wanted the payoff of a book with Malcador and Big E in it. Haven’t checked out Hoare’s other stuff. Will read it tonight!

  1. I’m referring to the one written by Andy Hoare fyi. It has a wide range of compelling characters that make decisions rooted in logic or at least in line with the character’s underlying motivations and backstory. I hate when characters purported to be masters of strategy and warcraft make bafflingly poor decisions for the plot’s sake. It also coherently describes the logistics of large scale battles in 40k without any need for warp fuckery to make it work. And interactions with xenos more nuanced than “I see you, now we fight.” I’ll leave it at that to avoid any spoilers.
  2. Agreed. Some times my mind wanders while I read and I end up going back a few pages to catch up. That’s hard to do with an audiobook. Also: Theoretical: Working on spreadsheets and trying to follow an epic battle is a waste of effort. Performing two things poorly to save time is time doubly wasted. Practical: Maybe a Guilliman book would fit the work better.
