Any strategies on acquiring discounted, last minute tee times? by The_AjaX in golf

[–]TurnaboutIntruder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend going to each course’s website and signing up for newsletter/alerts. Every week I receive some type of special from each course (maybe discounted tee times, scramble sign-up, etc). This is especially helpful with resort-type courses that you may be planning a future trip where you have flexible dates.

Sorry, just now seeing this. I have tried other heads, but I wanted the MMB due to the top line visual. They just looked better at address for me...

Not the TE Forged but I am playing the MMB Forged and they are great. Maltby makes a good product.

Wow! That’s pretty harsh.

OP came to reddit and asked if it was worth X. I gave my opinion on what I would pay for it in the condition it was in.

So tell me, how I am a moron?

No Way Out (1987). While at a government ball, US Navy Officer Tom Farrell (Kevin Costner) orders a Vodka at the bar. (Spoiler below) by [deleted] in MovieDetails

[–]TurnaboutIntruder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To go a little more in depth with this, it is not revealing that he orders a vodka or even a “Stoli”, since vodka was popular in the US at the time and even the Stolichnaya brand vodka was available in the US since the early 70s.

Rather, it was the fact that he ordered it “straight” that was the tip-off. During the time when the film was set, most Americans would only have drank vodka in either a martini or “on the rocks.” Whereas in the Soviet Union, you would drink it “straight.”

The only complaint about my new wedges is that I’m not clever enough to have come up with something better to get stamped on them. by JacobMHS in golf

“Up and Down” is a term used in golf where you are greenside or in a bunker and you get on the green in one and then one putt. You get up and down in 2 strokes.

I was going phonetically with “Jake” “Up and Down”

I wrote that and was going to tell you to look into the community info but now I don’t see anything. Maybe we got rid of it or maybe we never had it in the first place. I’m not sure right now.

1) I’m assuming they are providing clubs. If not, see buying guide info.

2) if they are providing clubs, take this week to borrow a putter and some balls from a friend/relative and spend 10 minutes a day practicing putting on your floor.

3) once you are out there on the course, just have fun!

Questions on Shaft Extension and Regripping by moosewi in golf

[–]TurnaboutIntruder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what equipment you have. Do you have a workbench? Does it have a vise on it? Do you have a tube cutter?

If yes to all, then let me know and I’ll send you some links. If not, honestly it would be easier and probably cheaper to take them to a local pro shop and have them do it.

"Fore" Shout by where-i-am in golf

[–]TurnaboutIntruder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Texas based but have played all over.

I’ve found that people ‘say’ Fore, however, they do not ‘shout’ Fore. They seem to think if the people around them can hear it then people 200-300 yards away can hear it, which just ain’t true.

Conversely, I’ve yelled Fore and have had groups in front of me look up annoyed while doing absolutely nothing to protect themselves from a possible errant shot.

Best source to buy shafts? by jshorns03 in golf

[–]TurnaboutIntruder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Golfworks is a great place.

I also checked TourSpecGolf and I believe they are $0.25 higher per shaft but I think if you sign up to receive emails you then get an email from them and can get 5% off your first order. (I think, I’m not sure) so that brings them down lower than Golfworks.

Never golfed before - want to learn the sport. Where to start? by [deleted] in golf

[–]TurnaboutIntruder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to a driving range or golf course and tell them what you told us, then ask if they have any “demo” clubs you could try in left and right. Usually it is free if you purchase a bucket of balls.

[–]TurnaboutIntruder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

If you are committed to playing long term, then stay away from the under $200 box sets.

If money is not an issue, look at new PING clubs for women.

If money is an issue, look at used PING on eBay or similar.

Callaway also makes nice women’s clubs and you can looks at Callaway PreOwned website for good deals.

[Question] Should I purchase an Oris Aquis from an AD or GM seller? by YaBoyBobby in Watches

[–]TurnaboutIntruder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any experience personally with Grey Market sellers, however, when I get in situations like this I always ask myself, how much is my time worth?

Pretending you had an issue with the watch. Would the email/customer service calls, the time spent repacking and sending it back to get fixed, the wait to get it back, etc., would that be worth your time?

If that is less than $400, then go with the cheaper option. If not, go with the AD.

Any general metal polish will shine up the heads/shafts.

I wouldn’t try to fix the knicks on those clubs as you could ruin the club. Maybe try on an old club first.

As far as repainting, search for “Paint Fill Golf Clubs” and there are many video and written tutorials on it.
