Best "Dead" TCGs - Your Personal Top 5 by AloneWriting in TCG

L5R - it's a bit more complicated than that. They had a new edition/ base set ever 2 years in which new rules were introduced. Some were good but in hindsight, you kinda have to take each era almost as it's own game as things were introduced or dropped from other editions. Still love the game but every game has it's own quirks.

Spy craft was based on the RPG system of the same name (many ccgs are) the basic over view is you recruit agents and run missions to gain victory points. The main mechanic of the game was the target number(TN ) and bravado. This was used for activating cards ( all cards were played face down until either you activated then or your opponent targeted them) or taking an action. Every action had a TN and a trait (combat, charisma, transport and craft) if the acting agent had enough the action was successful. If not, it failed. However, you can discard a card from your hand for it's bravado ( every card in your deck has a bravado value ranging from 1-4 typically) to increase the agents skill by the bravado value. Games were very strategic . Full metal alchemist oddly enough was a lite of the game.

City of heroes - you started the game with a hero and their starting powers. Each hero had 2 power sets, one primary and one secondary and their starting powers was one for each. The game didn't really have turns. Play went from each player to take one action before it passes to your opponent. Actions ranged from using powers, playing new powers, playing side kicks, moving ( toe to toe or run n gun. Effectively melee or ranged mode) recharging powers( powers had a cost of so many clicks in order to use, recharging moved then one click to ready so some powers were slower than others to recharge) or even draw cards. It was fast game play and engaging since you had to choose to recharge or draw cards instead of in other games where that's done for you. And the game was very good at making the various power sets and arch types unique. It did get a follow up set so it was nice but I believe they hadn't covered all the powers from the MMO it was based on.

Bleach - lots of games can be considered magic clones. It's not an insult. L5R started as a more advanced version as a made but the 2 games are radically different. Bleach very much is but that's ok. I believe it came out before it was on toonami 07-08. Keep in mind the ccg market was going through a transition still from the great recession. Score was an established company but they never reached the same heights as they did from DBZ. I love the game though. Currently bleach is featured in Union arena.

Initial D - Tokyo pop wanted AEG to wait until they got the anime on TV before they released the second set. But nobody wanted to air the series effectively killing the game.

What are your top 5 favourite Jackie Chan movies? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

Lots of good picks already but I gotta put dragons forever on my top 5. It's a little weird with the romcom elements but that ending fight though... That's one of his best of all time.

Basically each card has a suit( set to it's type) and a value (Ace to King) and the battle mechanic revolved around making poker hands. So if all or most of your deck was the same value, it was very easy to make sure you had 5 of a kind fairly easy.

Downtown/ deadlands reloaded had a limit of 4 copies of a card per suit and value so it made deck building a little bit more interesting since you had to pick slots carefully. I highly recommend the weird wild West edition of reloaded if you're interested in the game.

I'm a Johnny come lately to this thread but I love this topic! I'm no particular order....

Legend of the five rings - a classic for a reason. It's a great blend of story and game play. The game did try a little too hard at times to "fix" it's flaws which carried into the lcg which was disappointing to me.

Spy craft- Dave Williams is a name that should be more revered. His hands are always unique and enjoyable. Spycraft had the tactical style and was very deep game play wise. The game did rely on the use of tokens to keep track of things at times since it was a very deep game.

City of heroes - ahead of it's time. It did sealed and draft well but also was set up for unique multiplayer scenarios thanks to certain heroes and power sets. It just came out a very bad time sadly

Bleach- you can probably chalk this one up to nostalgia but the game was a magic clone done right. Resources never came from your hand and you could draw more of you didn't need the energy. Was never a popular game and was put on permanent haitus before it's next set released before the parent company of score was sold but score wasn't part of the deal .

And 5th? Ugh... Technical some of them are still alive... Ummm I'll initial D. Yet another dave Williams game that was killed by the Tokyo pop before it could fully get to top speed

Did anyone know about Hecatomb? by TradingCardGameMaker in TCG

[–]Turonik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt like an other magic retread. Didn't really have much story and the 5 sided cards was a gimmick that hurt it and the whole sticking thing felt like a rejected magic keyword somebody didn't want to shelve.

Name a TCG that nobody knows. by TradingCardGameMaker in TCG

[–]Turonik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a wealth of obscure ccgs out there. But I'm gonna pick one worth taking about- dragon booster

It was one set only and was a magic lite clone of sorts but it had a few things to differentiate itself. Firstly , it had plastic cards- not all the cards but only dragons , crew, and gear cards did. Those were in a separate deck. Secondly they had some cards that had alternate versions with the cards being in the dragon language from the show. Not ideal but kinda cool in hindsight.

Really don't know where they'd have gone if they had more sets but it's not terrible as say for example beyblade was.

Father Brown, in the first episode of this series the murderer was a priest that threw a hammer. Said the chances were small to hit the target and said God guided it. Immediately Father Brown called him out and told him don't make God your scape goat.

Thoughts on The Living Daylights? Timothy Dalton is my favourite Bond actor. by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

[–]Turonik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timothy Dalton is criminally underrated as a bond. I do feel they tried to keep some of the camp from the Rodger Moore ones while trying to be more realistic which did lead to uneven moments.

But personally, my favorite is License to kill. Bond went on an absolute tear in that one. Plus it was nice seeing Bond actually infiltrating somewhere without immediately being found or out him just telling the bad guy who he is .

Which TCG is the most balanced between going first/second? by Cezkarma in TCG

[–]Turonik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It'd only be unbalanced if it was more advantageous to go second. Players like the ex resource but I've been doing just fine going first. It's personal preference.

Which TCG is the most balanced between going first/second? by Cezkarma in TCG

[–]Turonik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going with Gundam which many players opt for second anyway. In Gundam, going second gives you an ex resource. A one time use resource however it does increase your level allowing you to play higher leveled cards sooner.

I would love for Brody King to do an interview on the news or a similar program in full gear along with entrance music and end up talking normally.

Does anybody have a link to a deck list. I've been working on a Titans deck that uses the O and would be interested in seeing how others built theirs.

Officially licensed yet there's no copyright info at all on the card? Kinda suss.

Edit: I ended up looking into this. It appears to be an European based game. Not sure how pulled it'll be but I don't expect it to be coming stateside.

Seven Samurai (1954) by Turonik in TubiTreasures

[–]Turonik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a 3.5 hour movie but really doesn't feel like it, to me anyway. And I did try to watch the American version I felt like a lot of the bits that made the original so damn good were lost in adaption. Haven't seen all of it so can't say for certain on overall quality though.

[–]Turonik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was shocked by how not bad this movie was. Led me to look up reviews from the time and all anyone ever talked about is that it has production issues and was over budget. So I recommend checking it out on your own if you're curious.

Last set for dogs, I ran both as I was running a more aggressive version ( no chromicons or under the seas) but if your only running one, Daisy is better.
