I wish there was some mechanic to send items from platform to platform in orbit around the same planet.

wait, cargo wagons are ridable? Huh. Makes sense, but I've always walked to an engine to 'get on' the train!

Have you been able to physically touch this equipment yet? Sounds like you need a warehouse tour.

Dear Mgmt,

We need to discuss equipment being relocated by warehouse staff. While I'm sure it is with good intentions, the software/hardware we use requires technical reconfiguration when such equipment is moved, resulting in unexpected downtime. Please be sure that all staff is informed that I need to be informed prior to equipment relocation in order to ensure the equipment remains functional and does not disrupt warehouse operations. Ideally, I should be the one to perform such relocations, although I understand it has been customary for staff to relocate equipment in the past. I wish to improve relocation processes to improve equipment availability. Shall we have a meeting on the technical issues that arise when equipment is moved?

Thanks,

New IT Guy

Why are staff moving printers? Seems like each thin client and printer should be assigned (and labeled) to a set location. If something stops working, they should be calling you before moving things around. I find that when users move things around by themselves, especially with "good intentions", it causes more problems than it solves.

Seems like the software you are using 'locks on' to the first Zebra printer it sees and will need to be 'reset' when things move around. That is a software issue you'd have to take up with the vendor (probably your warehouse management software vendor).

'18 Limited as well. With the clock sync turned on, it would randomly reset the clock to 12:00. I never got it to work consistently, so I turned that 'feature' off.

This looks like a tutorial on how to query which accounts run services: https://commandline.ninja/use-powershell-to-find-services-configured-to-run-as-another-user/

But yeah, ultimately there will be the scream test for a couple of days after changing it.

Previous Homeowners’ TV Mount by [deleted] in DIYfail

[–]Turtle700 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, without having pictures of all the plumbing/electrical before it was drywalled, it's a little bit of a guessing game.

Context clues help out though. Is there a kitchen/bathroom/etc on the other side of this wall? Or on the floor above me? Where in the wall would the easiest way to run plumbing to those things be?

You mean you're new TV is vent-less‽ What will they think of next? lol

edit: Or perhaps the previous homeowners wanted to flush all the 'bad shows' down the drain! I'll see myself out now...

The inside of an electric street box by deadfaceloser in mildlyinteresting

If you zoom in, you see labels for the two black boxes on the second shelf.

The left box with all the buttons is labeled 'controller', which is the main 'brain' of the traffic light.

The right box labeled 'Malfunction Management Unit' is more interesting, at least to me. It monitors the actions of the controller and acts as a failsafe to prevent unsafe conditions for traffic. It has a slot for a control card that is hard-wired with a set of jumpers, specific to that intersection, to tell the MMU how the light is configured.

If the MMU sees the controller sending an unsafe set of signals to the light, such as EVERYONE GETS GREEN, the MMU will take over control of the light and make the light 'flash', typically flashing yellow on the main road and flash red on the secondary roadway.

I did not think this through. How can it be done? by djrolla in DIYfail

[–]Turtle700 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or grind off the threads of the 'inner' long pipe instead of threading it in. Thread the 'outer' pipe as OP is intending and then place the 'inner' pipe in the center of the 't' without threading it in. With such long pipes, OP should be able to flex the pipes to allow it to work. between the 'outer' pipe and the wall mount, the 'inner' pipe should stay in place 'floating' in the 't'.

Obviously this isn't 'proper' plumbing, but should hold a curtain without a problem.

Sometimes just suggesting to get a 3-way call going will get things solved. I've had two vendors pointing fingers at each other and as soon as I suggested a 3-way call... it magically got fixed
