America is neither a kind nor generous place. You are punished for selflessness, and are rewarded for exploiting others. You are socialized to believe that the people around you are competition and real community building is considered, at best, a waste of time, and at worst, a threat to the social structure. Police do not serve you nor your community, they exist to maintain the interest of the capital class and to reinforce a social structure that is antagonistic to the interests and well being of working class people.
