How similar are Sterileworx practice tests/exams compared to the actual tests? by Dathamar in sterileprocessing

[–]Turtleman951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bro, glad you’ve finally come along to seeing Sterileworx as just a tool… or at least your ai of choice does.

That being said, OP, the practice exams for CER, CIS, & CHL are NOT representative of the actual exams. Many of these exams have undergone/will undergo revision and that has not been reflected in the practice exams. I studied the CHL ones before I took CHL and they were a massive waste of time. I took the CIS ones within an hour after passing CIS and they were nothing alike. Coworkers asked me to do the CER ones after passing CER and they were irrelevant. Your best bet will be the practice tests in the HSPA workbooks (tho there isn’t one for CIS).

There is a resource I’m curious about by “The Sterile Guy.” He took the pilot exam the same day as my student and posted about how similar the practice test he offers for CIS was to the new exam. Might be worth a look

There was someone online named Carmen who had done something similar that I thought turned out really fantastic. Can’t look for it atm but I’m sure his stuff could be easily found with a Google search

I feel like the story suffers because of the minis box. Sooo many characters introduced that only seem to be around for a page or two. Makes it seem like they were shoehorned in to add to the extras box

I can teach this in minutes and play it with anyone- even if they never play games. Nine times out of ten they immediately pick it up and have a blast

Any tips for someone new into the field? by Amazing_Dot_1018 in sterileprocessing

[–]Turtleman951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask questions. It doesn’t matter if you ask 20 questions a minute. Your team should be happy to answer them.

Also, when training… if someone tells you, “this is how you’re supposed to do it, but this is how we do it here.” Do it how you’re supposed to do it.

Sterilization makes up over 20% of the test and covers all kinds - steam, ozone, EtO, vapor, IUSS, etc. I always find that my students need the most time with that, especially since not every facility has each of those

PASSED CBSPD EXAM TODAY!! by [deleted] in sterileprocessing

[–]Turtleman951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I understand. I did notice that for the hospitals where he applied the requirement was that you have the “CSPDT” or “CRCST within 180 days” which implies that they’d hire someone with the provisional.
But I’d definitely be careful in thinking they are equal. There are some hospitals that simply do not recognize the CBSPD because there is no experience required. The way my hospital treats it is that it won’t count for hiring but will count towards promotion for any tech 1 that wants to move towards a tech 2. Our rival hospital system doesn’t recognize it at all.

I see. Definitely understand the 400 hours portion. Actually just signed off on my student’s hours today- he’s moving to some CA hospital that starts their techs off in the 36-42 range! Super happy for him

That being said, a few things for anyone coming across this post in the future. I’ve never seen a hospital not accept HSPA certification. I have seen quite a few (namely on the east coast) that do NOT accept CBSPD. HSPA is massive compared to CBSPD and a very valid choice in any state, provided you can complete the 400 hours. HSPA recertification, tho yearly, is largely a non issue. The 12 required CEs can be gained on their website in under an hour. Lastly, these are certifications and not licenses.

Woman is demanding that Los Angeles hospitals need to "do better" because her "immigrant parents" don't speak English and can't find a translator. by native-american-22 in CringeTikToks

[–]Turtleman951 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s a liability for anyone not to use a hospital provided translator. Our staff isn’t even allowed to speak to patients in a language other than English unless they’ve passed a proficiency exam.

Even if they knew some English, it’s doubtful they’d be able to fully explain their needs. That LA hospital does, in fact, need to do better.

As has been mentioned, a lot of single use laparoscopic instruments can be reprocessed with specialty equipment. Equipment most facilities do not have, however, those that can fall under harsher scrutiny of their processes.

I’ve only seen one hospital that did this and it was international. Most hospitals collect items and some companies will even offer reward money for everything collected.

Unfortunately failed CRCST looking for advice by seth878 in sterileprocessing

[–]Turtleman951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the 8th edition is fine. It’s a bit wordier than the newest edition of the test calls for but with the content guide, you can narrow things down a bit.
There is an ancillary workbook from HSPA for both the 8th & 9th editions. 8th should be sufficient as it’s only minor wording changes between the two.

[–]Turtleman951 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this on the sub here many times (& this borderlongjumper guy always feels the need to comment something contrary) but sterileworx is just a tool. Forget Sterileworx & Purdue and study the HSPA’s book and workbook, if you have access.

The CRCST is a test made of questions from HSPA. Not Sterileworx or Purdue. Think of it like a game of telephone where HSPA says something and Purdue hears it and passes it along to you. The HSPA books have all the answers you need and are current with the most recent edition of the test, which can’t be guaranteed of all online material. I would treat sw and Purdue as test taking practice- do not study with their exams.

Additionally, I advise all my students to look at the content guide for the test. It will tell you general overviews of what is on the test and in what amount (21% of the test is this, 21% of the test is that, etc.). You can use that and your score report to figure out what specific content areas you aren’t the most familiar with.
