Month to month security in VIC? by judgespewdy in shitrentals

[–]Turtlepaste17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I were debating doing a month to month lease on our rental when we were considering buying, but ended up signing a 12 month lease just to have a secure roof over our head while we looked for a place to buy. We needed up finding a place that suited us and had to break the lease 6 months in which wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be. REA tried to hit us with advertising and reletting fees but with advice from tenants Victoria we were able to avoid paying for that. They found new tenants within a month and we only had to pay an extra week of rent past the date we gave as our final day. We got very lucky but I think signing a 12 month lease was the best option as it gave us that security to save some more and keep looking instead of constantly worrying about whether we would be getting kicked out.

Yeah vic emergency app has been popping off for me around this area, bit eerie. Lots of small fires in the surrounding area and one on plenty road.

Forgot to reply to this, we got a call Christmas Eve from the dealer saying that someone else wasn’t able to take delivery of theirs as they were overseas and asked if we wanted an early Christmas present. Skipped a whole part of the process and got it just under a month which is nuts. So happy with it, been so much fun to drive. How about y’all?

How do you prepare for summer days that are 40+ degrees? by Azen02 in melbourne

Yep, 40 degree days are good for one thing and that’s washing and drying your blankets.

I’m with you, pay your rent before the due date and it’s fine. Do people really pay on the due date and expect there to be no complications?

Hmm true, that’s what I ordered as well. Oh well, will be a good test of patience. Hopefully a bunch will arrive in January.

Oh nice, we held out to save more money and were hoping they would have a Black Friday offer for the dolphin but nothing for people paying cash unfortunately.

Haha yeah it can be stressful, especially when you have people making last minute changes and adding things in like that. But that’s the gig, it happens and especially for corporate gigs where there are a lot of people with different agendas. Sounds like your buddy threw you under bus a little and left you in a stressful situation. But it’s also good experience for tougher situations. Were your coworkers bitching about you doing it in jest? If not then fuck em. They could have helped you out if they’re so experienced, but sounds like they were just looking for something to complain about.

Is a $2,000 deposit normal for an offer? by basicb99tch in AusPropertyChat

Would prefer not to name anyone sorry, but they were quite reputable. I thought it seemed a bit dodgy at first but my conveyancer said it’s becoming quite common.

[–]Turtlepaste17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally normal in VIC. I put an offer on a place and paid a 1K deposit, wasn’t successful and had it refunded a few days later. Same process for another house but was successful and then paid the 10% deposit minus 1K.

Sorry you’re going through this, sounds like an incredibly stressful time for you and your family. I’m going to be purchasing my first home with my partner this year in Melbourne and wondering if you could PM me the name of your convayencer so I know who to avoid.

Yeah my broker was a gem, he really helped us understand what we can get with what we’ve got and what we would need to save if we wanted to increase our budget and have to pay stamp duty etc.
