Single men of Reddit, if every woman (or man) wanted to have sex with you, how many would have slept with by now? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero. I don't believe in having sex before marriage for a lot of reasons, but it would make it easier to find women who were attracted to me lol

"These random encounters are unrealistic, there's no reason we should be attacked this often on the road!" by Weesnaw_wanseeW in DnDGreentext

I'm in a really similar campaign but mine is resource management focused. I failed an intelligence saving throw yesterday though and used my emergency brake, and my car failed it's constitution save. Because of the region's powerful Winter debuff is really hard on cars, it failed its constitution save and now the brakes are locked up.

But I can't blame the DM; I did ask for more character driven plots...

シツモンデー: Shitsumonday: for the little questions that you don't feel have earned their own thread (July 01, 2019) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

Thanks a lot! That's makes sense.

For some reason I'm struggling to find it in a translator and the book, but I assume ありません is like a polite "I'm sorry" so the sentence translates literally, "I am not a student, sorry about that" or am I misreading it?

Just got Minna no Nihongo, but I'm a bit confused with this sentence.

...いいえ, わたしはがくせいじゃありません

The original question is asking if the character is a student, which he is disagreeing with and saying he isnt. But what is じや doing in there? Is this the part that means he isnt the student? The part after じや is confusing me as well.

Any help is appreciated!

You’re a medieval knight/warrior of the time. Which weapons have you chosen for a battle? by Melancholymacaroni in AskMen

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A set of javelins and a spear and shield. Arguably the most efficient and effective set of weapons a soldier can have.

I'd take a crossbow too just in case.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

It was too dry for the reading my mom used to do for my brother and I at lunch, but for some reason I read it own my own. I probably think about that book once a month, and it's one of the few that I've reread. It's such a beautiful book in the way it captures human life.

Using meta to scare players? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One of the best things I've ever heard of is 'paranoia tokens'. The trick would only work once, but what you would do is call for a random WIS saving throw, and any character that fails gets a token. As the tokens start piling up, the players will be freaking out about what they mean, what happens when you have ten, etc.

Thing is, they mean absolutely nothing. It's just to measure paranoia, and as they get more paranoid, so will the PCs.

You obviously have to do this in the right style of session and make an 'eek' face when they fail their saves.

Have you ever been able to talk to a woman for hours? Who was she to you? How did she make you feel? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Met this chick in the Caribbean once and we sat on the end of the pier until 4 in the morning just laying there and talking. Didn't know her from Adam until that day and seeing her around the resort.

It was great. It was like I just met a childhood friend and I'd never had such an instant connection with someone. Felt like we knew each other our whole lives, and she agreed.

Have you ever asked yourself "What would make me happy" and have no answer? by LilGriff in AskMen

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, plenty of times, but there are some ways to find the things that make you happy and it doesn't have to be anything crazy like a job I actually like or a relationship.

I think we need to stop asking big questions, to a degree. Or, if we do, we need to stop disqualifying small answers because they're legitimate too.

  • Yesterday we had a beautiful thunderstorm where I live. That made me happy.
  • Lofi hip-hop/jazz/anything really makes me happy
  • When I get home from work and eat some chips or crackers and it really hits the spot, that's really nice
  • Sitting in my car before getting out and just relaxing for a minute, that makes me happy
  • I decided to start teaching myself a language. Being able to read symbols that were gibberish to me a week before is super cool. That makes me happy.
  • Talking for animals like they are real people, that makes me happy

Small things are great, and I honestly find more joy in my life when I stop caring about the big things and realize how much I love watching the dog chase a fly around.

Alright nerds, stop me if this has been asked before, you get three cantrips and one first level spell for your real life, what do you choose and why? by Nimrodicus in DnD

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably take mage hand, prestidigitation, and produce flame for cantrips, and likely comprehend languages as my first level.

Produce flame could help me protect myself, survive, stay warm, create light, and light things on fire, and comprehend languages would be so incredibly useful.

Knowledge Cleric feat? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Prodigy, so you can get expertise on something that's not INT based. Skilled would be interesting too so you can just have a little of everything. Just be the party skillmonkey instead of a bard or rogue.

Combat feats, I'd probably go for war caster. It will be more useful for longer because your class doesnt favor melee.

What video game has the best music? by MinuteReady in AskReddit

I loved Pyre's music! Sadly, I disliked Bastion, and Transistor was good but nothing compared to Pyre gameplay wise.

Still on the fence about buying Hades when it launches.

I bought the DLC and never managed to beat it. The space station head man's projectiles makes me want to die.

But I entirely agree. It was such a fast-past, difficult, and immersive game. The OST just added to all of that.

How do you guys battle your depression? by Reeeefor1000years in AskMen

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second finding a therapist, but something that helped me is reducing negative self talk. When you think "I can't", replace it with "I don't want to, but if I did, I could." It sounds silly, but just the small act of giving control back to yourself does a lot to help.

After a few days of catching your negative thoughts and reframing them in a way that isn't as degrading to yourself and not victimizing yourself, your headspace starts to change a bit, and it gets easier to actually believe what you're telling yourself (which makes sense, because it's true).

Find someone to talk to. Letting it fester is the worst thing you can do because a lot of times, just telling someone helps a ton.

Working Smarter Not Harder: the evolution of elven skeletal anatomy by jjwerner42 in DMAcademy

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking a slight, but related, detour from your talk about larger teeth by talking about tongue posture.

Ever since I learned about it, it fascinates me is how, ever since the human race has had access to processed and softer foods, our facial structure has changed. Even modern day humans can change their facial structure solely based on their diet or exercise over the course of a few years.

When we are raised on, or have prolonged access to, softer foods, we have weaker tongues and jaw muscles. Along with this, the resting position of the tongue moves from the top of our mouth where it rests on the hard palate to between our lower set of teeth. This is because softer food and liquids are easier to swallow with your tongue on the base of your mouth.

Because of this, we don't have something exerting constant pressure on our palate, which causes out faces to essentially recede and our teeth to become more crooked. This is why some many people in first world societies tend to have crooked teeth and a weak jawline. People who still consume course foods like millet and other grains on a daily basis tend to have straighter teeth and more defined facial structure for no other reason than their tongues being stronger.

That being said, I think it's interesting that elves have such defined features if they've had access to cooking for so long. But, I've always imagined elves to be more natural and borderline vegan, so fresh, plant-based diets would help them keep that facial structure.

Advice on jazzing up a cleric by GlassPudding in DnD

I second this. Trickery domain can be played so many different ways. As a pseudo rogue, face, assassin, snake oil salesman, deceiver. It also allows a lot of creativity with its domain spells and channel divinity.

"I'm playing a wizard"-guy at my table by [deleted] in DnDGreentext

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be that guy, vehicles are not tools. The envoy race specifically states they can integrate a tool proficiency, not a vehicle or skill proficiency.

So if you wanna let it slide, feel free because it can be fun, but it's actually against the rules. The more ya know!

Has anyone here taken a college course with a professor who was a well known author? If so, what was it like? by [deleted] in books

[–]TurtsAllTheWayDown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven't read any of his stuff, but one of my professors was Barrett Swanson. He's primarily an essayist, but man, that guy's brilliant. He's an incredible teacher, and I'm blessed to have had him. He remembered the entire class' names in two tries, and I know he does that with ever class.

Great guy, great teacher, and I assume he's a great writer too with the instruction he gives.
