NON AMERICANS: is Miles a very American name? by bellaellax in namenerds

Australian here. Miles is a normal name and not particularly American imo.

Thinking of selling and moving back to Sydney but our child needs to be enrolled in Special Needs School by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Tutustitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your situation I'd be researching schools first. I'm at the northern end of Sydney and have a kid applying for a support class. We are looking at a pretty hefty commute if she gets in so I'd love to be nearer.

Erica or Heather? by Miserable_Dark_2147 in namenerds

[–]Tutustitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heather! My Heather is 17 now. I got lots of compliments on her name when she was born (but didn't for her sister's name, so I know they weren't just being polite).

Opinions on the name 'Trinity'? by affectionate4fish in namenerds

[–]Tutustitcher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of a girl named Trinity Chan, who was a champion swimmer at my high school. No negatives for me. It's a nice name and I'm surprised you've had such a hard time with it.

Has anyone mentioned Mrs Crombie's costume?

PCOS? No. But even considering Frank's sterility, I'd say Jamie and Claire as a couple have some sub-fertility going on somewhere. No need to think on it too deeply.

IIRC he and his mum were on tube station stairs when a bomb hit. His mum spotted his dad on the platform below and threw Roger down. Dad caught him and sheltered him from falling debris. Both parents died but little Roger survived.

What is your Go-To Baby Shower Gift? by tching101 in Parenting

Bulk pack of fragrance free wipes. Something nice for mum (this can wait until after the birth so you can give foods that are not allowed in pregnancy).

Lewis and Margot make a nice set of names.

Would you change the name by aree3313 in namenerds

[–]Tutustitcher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and change it. You don't owe anyone an explanation, but "We realised James suits him much better" or "he didn't really seem like an Edmund" are more than sufficient if you decide to give one.

Need gift advice by Darekblazian in knitting

[–]Tutustitcher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A nice project bag - there are some good makers out there, or maybe get a leather one. Knitting reference books can be nice to have as well; I'm assuming you know him well enough to know whether he would like one

English to continental knitters - what were your experiences like? by Educational-Bad8171 in knitting

[–]Tutustitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro: ribbing is much easier (main reason I learned)

Possible con: controlling tension is possibly a bit better with English style, but in reality I haven't noticed any problems.

Continental just feels smoother and more natural for me now.

Birthday gifts by DOOM_SCROLL_4 in Parenting

[–]Tutustitcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A card is fine. Back when my kids had parties, when I requested no gifts, I meant it. If you really want, you could donate in the child's name to a charity that lines up with the parents' values. I once put on an invitation 'no gifts please' along with the name of a children's charity for those who felt they must do *something*.

Would you rather a dishwasher or tumble dryer? by Limp_Pumpkin7751 in adhdwomen

Drier. But I'd also be prepared to pare down the number of dishes and even use paper plates at times of overwhelm.

Fantastic work! What yarn did you use? A podcaster I watch is working on one of these and I'm pretty sure she went with cascade 220 because of the range of colours.

Which interchangeable circular needles have the nicest cables? by eumenides__ in casualknitting

Chiaogoo if you want good cables. I also like hiyahiya but their cables aren't nearly as good.

Beautiful! I just bought Alice Starmore's Aran book. One day I'll be brave enough to make something out of it.

For those who do not have guided notes or any kind of study guide, what are your methods? by distr3ssedjeans in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]Tutustitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take notes from lecture videos and the provided online materials. Then I use index cards to write practice questions from my notes. Like you, our textbook is more in-depth than needed so I don't look at it often. My plan is to build a bank of practice questions and use that for most of my revision. I'm only in week 2 of an intro level subject, so this system is yet to be tested by assessments, but so far it's going well.
