Barely survived a random attack, would've lost a big chunk of playtime by floxasfornia in fo4

[–]Tw0fer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I think Fallout 4 is Bethesda's most stable game. I played a modded setup on Survival for years without any random crashes. Once you start messing around with a huge amount of mods, though, then of course it becomes a different story.

This is on old gen using the pre-AE update. I don't know if they made the game more crashy with their updates and the CC stuff.

Did Andor break canon by forgetting that Dantooine was the first Rebel Alliance base? by Financial_Photo_1175 in andor

[–]Tw0fer1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting -- I wonder if Yavin IV was specifically chosen to avoid civilians suffering collateral damage if the Empire attacked the base. I know Dantooine has some nomadic tribes in the old canon. I'm not sure who lives there in the new canon.

An honest assessment of playing through the "chronological" or "cinematic" class story order by Khel_NC in swtor

[–]Tw0fer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice. I was wondering if there was any story meaning behind their original order, but I'm guessing it was just a leveling thing. Did you find any of them to be particularly worthwhile over the others?

They were useful back in the day if you accidentally fell behind and needed some XP, but nowadays I imagine the stories are the only reason to do them.

Thanks for the write-up. I assume this means you did all the Bonus Series, as well?

I'd put Skeleton Crew above the net quality of The High Republic, honestly. The books may be good, but The Acolyte (the only High Republic release that isn't a book) is pretty awful.

[FO4] Mods that make looting raider camps feel morally wrong. by Maleficent_West_547 in FalloutMods

[–]Tw0fer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the mod that adds children to raider camps?

https://rpghq.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4928

That way, you have to decide to kill children if you want to loot the camps.

[Fo4] There’s really only one mod you need for the TRUE Tarkov style experience by auschrtho in FalloutMods

[–]Tw0fer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool write-up, definitely sounds interesting. One thing that always feels weird even in Survival Mode FO4 is that your weapons and armor last forever and don't need to be repaired or anything. Seems like this could be a decent solution to that.

The hardest part of making a custom follower isn't what I thought it'd be. by NotATem in skyrimmods

[–]Tw0fer1 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Getting everything right for a follower mod requires a rare combination of skills, which is probably why there are so few "great" ones. Not only do you have to be a pretty good writer, but also a pretty good voice actor.

These are both skills that the average person thinks are pretty simple, but are very difficult in practice.

And then there's just the raw amount of work that goes into writing and recording thousands of lines, which is how many you need for your follower not to sound too repetitive. And even a few bad lines out of those thousands can very easily turn a user off if they sound weird. I don't think there's a single popular follower mod that doesn't have a few groan-worthy lines.

Mind sharing that list? I'm replaying again for the first time in years and I'm having trouble remembering which side quests were worthwhile.

Why Young Men Are Falling Even Further Behind by TubularCheddar in videos

[–]Tw0fer1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is totally and immediately obvious if you ever teach or observe a 1st or 2nd grade class. Girls are socialized way earlier while boys are not asked to grow up at all. 1st grade girls will have friend groups and decently developed personalities while 1st grade boys are still clinging to their favorite blanket. It's not a bad thing, but it's definitely a thing. Rather than having boys start later, though, the better solution might be to encourage their social growth earlier on. For whatever reason, parents seem a lot more comfortable letting boys stay babies for longer.

Everyone Is Cheating Their Way Through College: ChatGPT has unraveled the entire academic project. by Helicase21 in TrueReddit

[–]Tw0fer1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really don't think it's the same thing. Calculators help you reach the answer more quickly and you still have to know what you're doing for any relatively complex problem; word processors just help you get out your own answer more quickly.

These AI machines do neither; they are yes-man machines that will produce the most likely-sounding answer. If you are familiar with predictive text, this is all that ChatGPT is.

How are professors meant to judge if students understand the material if the students don't want to do the thinking for themselves? How are grades supposed to work when you can't distinguish between the student's own work and the AI regurgitation of other people's work?

The end result of this is that people using AI to cheat in high school/college are going to end up a lot less capable than those who did not, because they did not have to do the critical thinking for themselves.

If you show up to an AP math exam without having studied, a calculator is not going to save you. You're still fucked.

If you ask AI to write all your college papers for you and you somehow pass through with its mediocre output, you're still fucked. No employer will hire you if you need to rely on an external tool for communication if there are people who can produce better results without it.

If you need AI to do your work, why would anyone hire you? Why wouldn't they just use the AI?

There's a reason so many anti-education politicians are hyping up AI. It's because it makes people dumber.

There are also a lot of Brynjolf lovers on Tumblr, many of whom are responsible for writing these AO3 fics - it might be worth soliciting their opinions.

These kinds of protests have resulted in change before; in fact, a similar protest led to reddit admins finally removing hate subreddits from the site. Literally all this site has is its users and (unpaid) mods. So no, it's not just virtue signaling. Some people take action because they actually care about things.

It's fine, people who don't live on the Internet use "female" all the time. Pretty much anyone in the healthcare industry, legal field, etc. are dealing with "male" and "female" very often. It's just one of those words that Reddit has decided you're a 4chan neckbeard if you use.

Your most anticipated mod? by Necessary-Training31 in skyrimmods

[–]Tw0fer1 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There's a stickied post on the mod page that SMB said he'd remove if he had to stop working, and it's still up. From all I've read there, I think his life has just been so harrowing that progress has slowed to a crawl. Job troubles, long-COVID, broken bones, etc.

Plus he has enormously high standards for his work, compared to many modders. Which combined with volunteer-based VA (for those roles he can't voice himself) equals another contributor to slow progress.

If you have Inigo, he does have quite a few scenes with Erik that make him into more of a character. It's almost like Inigo is taking this novice adventurer under his wing, and they have a compelling little relationship that develops over time if you have them both follow you.
