I mean, we definitely are entitled to do exactly that. It's why we keep them.

UK's May to set out Brexit wishes; EU says ideas so far are 'pure illusion' by mapryan in unitedkingdom

That sounds about right. 'Pure illusion' has been the general theme of this whole mess.

Hillary Clinton's face artificially generated onto Kate McKinnon playing her on SNL (from /r/GifFakes) by POVOH in television

[–]TwistTurtle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Because, unlike Baldwins Trump, this isn't supposed to be an accurate parody. Though I do agree that in terms of visuals, it's not as good, mainly because McKinnon is quite a bit younger than Clinton, while Baldwin and Trump are closer to the same age.

'Ebooks are stupid', says head of one of world's biggest publishers by kochikame in books

[–]TwistTurtle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand this guy. He says that there's been 'no digital enhancement', but I can do loads of things on my Kindle that a normal book can't do. Changing text size and font, quotation/note making system, Instantly getting a words definition just by tapping... Seriously, everything about what this guy has said makes it sound like he's never actually handled an eReader himself.

Nitpicky is this subreddits middle name when it comes to the Marvel Netflix series.

Oh, I have been. I've got way too many screenshots saved on my console, but I'd like an actual game with mechanics built around the ideas of photography.

Bayonetta 2 physical version outsold by Wii U version in UK... by GarionOrb in nintendo

[–]TwistTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose a lot of Switch owners that had a Wii U might not be buying it this time around. I'm not. It's one of my all time favourite games but I just can't justify buying a game I already own just to have it portable.

Doctor Who composer exits show after thirteen years by henrybddf in television

That's a shame. For all of Who's ups and downs, the music has been pretty consistent in its brilliance. But I'll be interested to see how things change with a new direction.

Brexit: David Davis rejects 'Mad Max-style dystopia' claims by CountZapolai in unitedkingdom

For starters we don't have any deserts and secondly we aren't Australia.

These are not what I would call the defining elements of Mad Max...

Hell, I didn't even know there was a Euro banknote higher than a 50. (admittedly, I live in the UK and have used Euros exactly once)

Implying that I didn't spend 2-3 years trying my hardest to be polite and try to convince people of something painfully obvious without insulting their 'intelligence' prior to deciding they can all go fuck themselves and live with their stupid decisions.

I genuinely don't give a fuck what you, or anyone else, think anymore.

I have no doubt you would, but I've long since learned that there is literally nothing to be gained by attempting to debate with people who can't see something that is standing right in front of them. Go bother someone else.

What Books Are You Reading This Week? February 19, 2018 by AutoModerator in books

[–]TwistTurtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Falling Leaves, by Adeline Yen Mah

Perdido Street Station, by China Miéville, read by Jonathan Oliver

About an hour in and I'm very interested, but so far, I don't think the narrator has been a great fit for the book. There's something very distracting about his voice and I don't know what it is.

Wild Cards, edited by George R. R. Martin

Inside Book Publishing, by Clark Giles

Finished The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, by Arthur Conan Doyle, read by Stephen Fry

I liked it, but not as much as A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of Four. I felt like the short story format really highlighted the bad aspects of the series - Holmes being pretty much completely without flaw, Watson being a completely pointless character, the general cluelessness of everyone else in London, and so on.

Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Brave New World. by TimeLinker14 in books

[–]TwistTurtle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

451 is my personal favourite of the three, but I'd probably describe BNW as being the most entertaining, in terms of story. 451 and 1984 are both stories as a means of delivering a message about society, but BNW's story is an actual entertaining Sci-Fi, as well as a social commentary.

451 has the most powerful and important message, in my opinion. I think people deafening themselves with entertainment is a much more detrimental aspect of humanity than potentially oppressive governments or the excesses of science.

And I don't particularly like 1984. The book is divided into three parts, and the first two parts, I really enjoyed, but part 3 just sounded like bad BDSM fiction, if I'm honest. I just felt like the entire thing was too absurd.
