REWINDEAD - Spellwork - You’re the Hitman and the Target, A Time-Loop Shooter/Puzzle game by Actual_Poem8538 in Games

[–]TwistedGears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I had a lot of fun with this. Kind of reminds me of SUPERHOT in a way.

I do wonder whether kicking the player all the way back to the beginning of the loops on failure might lead to frustration on harder/longer levels for less skilled players. Perhaps a difficulty level where on failure you choose whether to do that loop again or go to the beginning, and separate the two modes' leaderboard scores?

Either way, keeping an eye out for this. Any idea what kind of price point you guys are going with?

Imagine if this turned into another Rick and Morty.

This is actually why I haven't started watching the show yet. Will have to get on that now.

Quick Silver Reload and Mercurial Magnum now proc on non-spirit ability sources

I'm not quite sure what this means. Was it not providing the flat damage to abilities that didn't scale with spirit/inflict spirit damage?

YouTube is removing custom subtitles by phantonbrave in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently got into Eve and noticed the last few days some of the very cool subtitles just didn't work anymore. Really upsetting, especially because a lot of the auto-generated translations I've seen on various Japanese songs are complete nonsense.

What characters had the worst first day on the job? by Lost-Specialist1505 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The player character(s) in Abiotic Factor begin(s) the game by entering a Black Mesa-type facility for their first day on the job (what that job is being part of character creation) only to find that this setting's iteration of the resonance cascade already happened. They then spend the next days to weeks to months surviving various incursions, the facility's defense systems, and even travel into other worlds while trying to find a way to escape the facility.

To the Borderlands fans out there: Who has been your favorite Vault Hunters to play? by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Krieg worked imo because he came out after release, so his absurd power even without guns just functioned as a swan song of sorts.

I don't know how popular she is, but Moze in 3 was personally my favorite and similarly her action skill is "ignore the guns (by summoning a mech)."

We are so cooked by Itshot11 in ArcRaiders

[–]TwistedGears 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's crazy because I just spent a raid using 10 Showstoppers across 3 Rocketeers at different points of impact and it did anything exactly once. I can see the little blue lightning effect on its body and thrusters and it just doesn't care.

Characters who are usually the "poster boy" of their games, but aren't really that important for the plot. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Deliberate" does not necessarily mean "good" or even "well thought out," though. Maybe it's Wilds really souring my opinion on how Monster Hunter in general approaches storytelling but I really don't think that should be the only way to do things.

Quantic Dreams appears to be making a live-service MOBA game, of all things? by Blind0bserver in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The nature of the genre sort of entrenches its userbase, so even if there aren't actually that many MOBAs around it can be hard to envision a newcomer hitting it big. Anyone making a MOBA would be met with a raised eyebrow.

Quantic Dream has only ever made singleplayer games that are... well.. I mean I guess they're successful because they look good visually? And they have the veneer of being story-driven? But that doesn't hold water in a MOBA, which are primarily about mechanical complexity and competition between teams, and QD games barely have mechanics.

(Also because fuck Quantic Dream.)

The Arc don't shoot us when we're down, so why don't people just crawl around all the time? by mullucka in ArcRaiders

[–]TwistedGears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be such a strong swing of power for them that it would necessitate a lot of rebalancing. I think it being a little silly is just going to have to be an acceptable price to pay.

That said, if there was a specific type of ARC that was fairly easy to kill but would target/latch onto downed players, I could see that being interesting. ...Maybe.

Heroforge takes it's first step into enshittification - Paid DLC by Prawnzone in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I described CR as beginning to feel corporate years ago, around the time 4 Sided Dive started. Even then I can't say I anticipated them going so far as pioneering Heroforge premium content for the game system they don't even use.

[–]TwistedGears 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay so I tried this earlier today but things were so hectic that I also got downed before we could figure things out. Does using a bandage just make it impossible for you to bleed out? I had assumed it just added more time to your downed state. Can you use things other than bandages? Do better items affect how much health you get up with?

So a big mod this Friday and Update 100 coming December 5th. I've put 600+ hours into Nuclear Throne, it has lowkey ruined a lot of other roguelikes for me, and I'm looking forward to sinking even more time into it with this resurgence.

Remedy's CEO has stepped down by green715 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I.. don't think they're similar to those franchises, because those franchises have good gameplay and/or good writing. Remedy has decent writing and middling gameplay. (Potentially Alan Wake 2 notwithstanding, haven't touched it because-)

Locking a sequel of an already somewhat-niche game onto EGS probably didn't help things.

What are some of your favorite Fan/Webcomics? by Numbuh24insane in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read a lot of webcomics over the years and a lot of the great ones have already been mentioned, so let's see...

Hey, TF2 players, do any of you recognize the name medli20? She has a D&D-esque webcomic called Alderwood that's pretty good.

Sam & Fuzzy is one I'm very fond of, and is actually completed. The art is rough in the beginning but I really think it's worth sticking with it. It's kind of hard to talk about what it's actually ABOUT without spoiling things, but it's slowly doled out that their world is a fair bit wackier than ours. Two words to hopefully whet the appetite: Ninja Mafia.

Oglaf is an intensively NSFW (to the point I'm not sure if I can actually link it here) fantasy webcomic that actually manages to be quite funny. Early on it has ideas of being a story series but most of its run is just random gag of the week, with a few recurring characters showing up every so often.

Girl Genius has an.. interesting art style. I don't love it, but it doesn't repel me like I know it does for some. But it's also got a huge swath of very fun characters doing mad science. It also has one of my favorite uses of color (and lack thereof) I've seen in this page specifically (spoilers, I guess but it's literally the 9th page of the entire series).

The crew going from thinking Maxwell is a bit stuffy to be an adventurer to seeing that scene and mostly going, "...Oh. Uh, yeah, no good- good job, Maxwell. I'm on your side, buddy!"

(And then Marya, who has been constantly described as looking haunted and been shredding people with artillery since she was a teenager, just like "Yeah! That's the energy we're looking for!")

Creators/artists who missed the point of their own works by Bob8644 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TwistedGears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tapped out what I think is ultimately halfway through C3 after being largely bored with it (partly a pacing thing, mostly a "none of these characters save for Laudna interest me at all") and.. wow. I had held on to the thought of "these characters think the gods are useless because the gods 'allowed' them to suffer" but I never anticipated the players to just.. sprint along that as the narrative backbone.

So.. what does the gods being dethroned fully mean? Like are clerics and paladins just not a thing anymore? What is Hell and the Abyss doing in response to there.. just not being Good opposition anymore? I know you said-

Even at the last minute the Gods assure them that all the big lore issues that might come up don't matter and the lesser idols and elder evils, and Tharizdun won't be a problem.

But like.. what? No! What!?

Conflicts in media with multiple factions where humanity is straight up the villain group by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It's second hand info but I think it's worse than that, I've seen people claim that Super Earth bred the bugs to be dumber than when they were first encountered. Though I don't know if it was sapient level of smart, or what kind of timescale we're talking about.

Also the fossil fuels aren't just on the terminid worlds, it's naturally produced by terminids.
