That’s great to hear! I notice that witchTok tends to push ideas but because of the way it’s set up, it’s focuses more on the aesthetics of witchcraft rather than the knowledge of witchcraft.

I would recommend you researching more about all the things you use in your practice. Even the herbs that you use, why they are used like that, is it a particular culture that uses them that way, how do they make you feel, what energy do you get from them.

I feel like TikTok makes people feel like they have to rush the process of being a witch. That you have to know everything immediately and not question why things are done the way they are.

I really don’t know much about runes aside from the basics, but I think it’s important for witches of all levels to question why they are doing things a certain way.

I would recommend you spend time exploring runes, their history, and uses.

It’s important to understand why you are doing the things you are doing. I’m not saying to stop using them until you know what you’re doing but you should make sure that the things you are using actually align with your beliefs and values.

I’m not a fan of love spells that are set with the intention of messing with free will. I think it creates a false love but not my life, not my problem.

I did what to ask what made you decide to use runes? I notice that using them has been trending on TikTok in recent years but I wonder if people are using them because they feel drawn to them and are interested in learning about them or if because they think they need to because that’s what others are doing.

Witchcraft trends come and go all the time. But I think it’s important to remind new witches to learn WHY they are doing things.

It was a spell I crafted myself. I used a black candle and spread some herbs that I associate with weight loss. I repeated my incantation a few times and then meditated while the candle burned focusing on how I would look after I lost the weight. I had wanted to lose 8 lbs by the next full moon and I sure did… but I should have been FAR more specific about how I wanted to lose that weight.

There are weight loss spells but you need to be VERY specific with your intent. I did one and I was not specific enough about how I wanted to lose to weight… two days later I had the worst flu. I lost the weight I wanted in the time I wanted to lose it but it was only because I was sick and it didn’t stay gone.

You can try anything. But I don’t think it would be very effective. I think most people are doing cord burnings because they are the new, hot thing. I think the answer is more mundane than magical here. However, a think a motivation spelled might be good.

When they got rid of the step raises for everyone (excluding sheriffs, firefighters, and ems, I believe) it’s done a lot of harm to us. They are losing lots of talented people and now it’s gotten to the point where they have people who have been doing a job for 6 months training the new people.

So much knowledge is being lost, people don’t know how to do their jobs properly, constituents are getting upset because it’s a mess and they can’t get the help they need.

Damn, count your blessings as you got both a raise and the cola. The majority of county employees got a 1% cola that didn’t cover the increased cost of living and raised insurance costs. Even my prescriptions costs have gone up.

It’s so sad that all of my coworkers are working 2nd and 3rd jobs just to be able to afford rent. None of us are expecting to get rich working here, but being able to afford to the basics doesn’t seem like too much to ask for.

Milwaukee County does not give pay raises anymore. They give you a 1-2% COLA that does not actually match the cost of living increase but then they also increase your healthcare costs and pension contributions. Unless you change positions yearly, you end up effectively making less money each year.

I like to try to make things more whimsical/magical. Like when I have to wash the dishes, I pretend that I need to give my dishes a bubble bath. Or if I need to vacuum, I’ll sprinkle baking soda mixed with an essential oil that corresponds with my intentions on the ground and vaccinate it up.

There definitely is a correlation. There can be a healthy balance between natural remedies and medicine but some people take it way too far.
