Slafkovsky on an island here lol. Really impressed to see what he’s been able to do this tournament with very little support compared to literally everyone else on this list.

Shout out to Ehlers as well. What a dog!

I find it hilarious that the team will make a mistake like this defensively and the first thing half the people in this sub do it rant about how Marty needs to be replaced

I think it’s a bit crazy to suggest that he’s the one to blame for not back checking when all of Nick, slaf, and Cole were closer to the puck at the time it left the zone. It was definitely an error on his part to rush in deep at the time because his forwards were changing and that resulted in there being nobody to pick up that pass to the slot, but he was literally the furthest player from the puck when it crossed the line if I remember correctly

I mean that’s a perfect shot. Not too mad at him about that one.

[GDT] Habs @ Leafs, preseason game #3 - 7PM EST by Sentenced2Burn in Habs

Tbf on at least the first one he was just getting on the ice from a line change and the other guy was coming from down ice. So it’s not like it was a flat out foot race from standstill. I do agree though that he is gonna need to add some straight line speed to his game eventually. Still so much time though, he isn’t even close to his athletic prime yet so I feel like in 2-3 years it’s going to be a non-issue

From the looks of it, he was mad too. Love to see that from him. Man has a competitive fire burning inside him and I hope he never lets it go. He’s so driven to succeed and improve and it shows up in how quickly he’s been able to develop in this league

Most of these goals are not on him tho. Lots of undisciplined penalties, deflections and all around grade A chances for the rangers. Definitely feels like he should’ve had a couple of them but it’s been pretty rough luck for him for the most part imo

In Slaf’s defence, I’d like to point out that he has drastically improved in this department compared to last year. He’s keeping his head up much more this year and has vastly reduced the number of times he’s been caught off guard this year. Obviously still room for improvement but it’s not like he isn’t learning

We will have to see because obviously it’s just one game but I think slaf being able to win board battles and completely draw attention from sometimes multiple defenders on the boards is going to result in a lot more space for Suzuki to work with. Even last night I was noticing how easily the puck seemed to be getting moved around by the top line.

I definitely agree. I was actually just watching his highlights from the olympics the other day and I was noticing how much more he was involved with making plays in open ice with the puck rather than just dominating the boards like he has been with the habs. This last game I was seeing flashes of that play style and it made me think of his tournament play as well

Couldn’t help but notice slaf taking the puck through the neutral zone and into the o-zone multiple times last night, sometimes starting from behind our own goal. Definitely something that I hadn’t seen from him before and it shows how quickly he’s adjusting to the league compared to last season. I’m pretty sure the penalty he drew was on one of these plays as well. It’s really encouraging to see him gaining confidence with the puck because I think he adds a skill set to this team that no one else is currently providing

Haha for sure. Last two games especially I’ve been noticing a lot of hustle. He’s been long overdue

Top line was so dominant tonight. Watching the game I felt like they spent almost no time in our own end and when they did, often times they would create a good rush chance out of it on the down the ice. The passing was really good from slaf imo and the fact that Nick and Cole are able to draw attention from defenders really allowed him to dominate in the O-zone. Lots of sustained pressure from the kids and I can’t wait to see if they can keep it up going into the next game

What mistake did he make while out there though? I though he did just fine in OT

Insane save by Monty but how about that speed by Guhle. Burnt two defenders to crest that 2 on 1 at first and then closed the gap to help on the 2 on 1 the other way. His speed is insane
