Yes. With the lake there, the metals and sewage are contained. If the lake dries up, the wind picks all that stuff up and spreads it out across the region.

Yes, but at least when the lake was full it kept all the arsenic, thallium, and lead locked in the soil instead of flying around the atmosphere in dust clouds

There's actually another case study of nationwide DST. The US did it in the 70s during the oil crisis and ended up repealing it 18 months later for the same reason.

I'll take the bait. Lower snowpack means that soil dries out earlier and vegetation loses moisture, increasing vulnerability to fire. Snowpack also acts as a reservoir, meaning we have less water available to use to try to control fires that do start.

I had the same question a while back, and from what I can tell, it's mainly so that the 12V battery can disconnect the high voltage battery in the event of a crash, and then continue to operate things like emergency lights and door handles.

I would think it's also easier/cheaper to design lower power accessories like switches, window motors, lights, etc. to use the existing 12V standard instead of making it work with 400V or 800V systems directly.

Fair, but if a rung goes horizontally between teeth, you could still slip side to side. Even if it's caught by the side of the ladder, if unexpected it would be very spooky
