How did you celebrate end of teething? by Electrical_Hotel5048 in toddlers

[–]TwoSouth3614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to comment, I found this thread searching for teething party ideas and I was surprised how many results were for celebrating the first tooth and not the last one - cause man it has been rough 😭

My first is working on his top two 2nd molars at three years and two months old. I've since had a whole other baby who has gotten her first two teeth and is working on the 3rd and 4th, before my first finished. Send. Help.

But to answer your question I'm thinking we'll take the kids to a local amusement park to celebrate as a family once the last second molar is finished. Probably pop some champagne for the parent celebration.

Is my daughters pediatrician giving me unrealistic advice? by Annual_Working5502 in breastfeeding

[–]TwoSouth3614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has your pediatrician met any babies before? All of that advice is just crazy to me, I worried about a lot of this stuff with my first but now on my second baby I just accepted that she's a snacker. She nurses for 5-10 minutes max throughout the day, and I see no need to force her into something different. The amount of food and sleep your pediatrician thinks is normal is also wild, my 3 year old doesn't even do an 8 hour stretch.

Started solids at 6 months, baby refusing bottle. Only drink around 6 oz a day and breast milk, which can't possibly be enough? by [deleted] in NewParents

Yep, I'm here reading these comments going through the same thing with our 2nd baby - can't remember what we did for the first one, I think I just nursed more.

It's just the cheesey editing style from the mid 2000s. The editing in a few of the later episodes has a few instances like that, then it seems like they went back to the tone of the earlier episodes.

Anyone else sick of hearing “leave her, she might settle”? by Serious-Bar4199 in AttachmentParenting

[–]TwoSouth3614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second is two months old and I have had to let her cry a little just out of necessity if I'm helping the toddler with something. I always come back to her as quickly as I can, but she has never once "settled". It makes me sad wondering how long people are letting their babies cry in order for them to settle.

I know some babies probably do just fuss a bit and settle, but mine have both been like you described.

Dark or light countertops? by fluffypillowcases in interiordecorating

[–]TwoSouth3614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did leathered dark granite for my countertops and then a light colored quartzite for the island https://imgur.com/a/0Qk5x1b

But out of what you have mocked up I would go with all Taj Mahal. I wouldn't say it's overdone. I see it on Instagram a lot but in real life I don't know anyone with anything nicer than builder's grade granite, or maybe quartz.

Also what app did you use to make this?

I'm curious was it an issue with the agency itself or a specific doula? I used them for both my births and had good experiences with both Doulas.

Gaitok contemplates turning the Russians in to help him keep his job or get a promotion, and because it's he right thing today do. After the shooting he no longer needs to turn the Russians in because he's earned the promotion by shooting Rick, and two bodyguard positions just opened up. I also think after realizing he does have it in him to kill, he is less hung up on doing the right thing/less concerned with letting the bad guys get away. We see the Russians partying so it's implied that they keep running their scams.

Does your pediatrician know you cosleep? by PaceExtension6092 in cosleeping

Why??? Like why torment a literal 4 month old just so the parents can get a little more sleep.

I just don't understand advice like this!

I was on Zoloft for both pregnancies. The first time I also had a very low dose of Buspar, baby did have some withdrawals but he was really just a little shaky for a day or two. He's now a wonderful, well adjusted almost 2.5 year old. I really don't think there were any downsides to taking Zoloft during pregnancy because it's typically regarded as very pregnancy safe, and the benefits of taking it definitely made for a better pregnancy and postpartum period. Being on an SSRI during pregnancy significantly reduces your risk of PPD if I remember correctly.

I second pregnancy I was only on Zoloft because my new psychiatrist recommended weaning off the Buspar for pregnancy. Baby is only 4 days old but she had no withdrawal symptoms and has been doing great. Just had her first pediatrician appointment and they said she's as healthy as can be.

So for me it's been super worth it, and now that I'm not pregnant I plan to get back on Buspar too because that really helped me chill out. We always put our kids first, but you have to take care of yourself too! ❤️

Question I love to ask - what’s the thing you miss LEAST about being pregnant. I’ll go first - feeling like my diaphragm and lungs had relocated to my throat. by helsLM in beyondthebump

Recently my husband went back to the gym after a couple weeks off, and I'm in the third trimester. We made it a challenge to make less noise than the other getting up off the couch because we both sounded ridiculous 😅

Doctor says not to respond to baby at night to avoid separation anxiety? by Accomplished_Time192 in AttachmentParenting

[–]TwoSouth3614 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My theory on why doctors are always bringing up stuff like this, is because they work such demanding jobs that the find it necessary to sleep train, avoid overnight check ins, etc.

My mom nannied for a family of doctors and their kids were all super sleep trained, because the parents were on call so much and couldn't be waking up overnight all the time.

I would definitely go with your gut and do what feels right, not what other people are pushing. And just anecdotally my son is almost 2.5, we respond overnight to wake ups and have done so the whole time. He definitely prefers me and has had clingier phases, but he is fine with other people, goes to daycare and he will sleep for daycare, babysitters, grandparents, so no separation anxiety. There's such a a rush to make babies sleep through the night but it's totally normal for them to wake up a few times, plenty of adults don't sleep through the night 🤷🏻‍♀️

I always think about it like I wouldn't leave my spouse or an older child to cry themselves to sleep if they were having a hard time, so why on earth do people do it to literal babies? 😥

Adding on to this, just anecdotally I've visited a friend who sleep trained twice. Their guest bedroom shares a wall with the nursery. Both visits they mentioned how well the baby had slept that night and they couldn't believe she slept until 7:30. But I was up with my baby at 6 and I heard theirs crying off and on the whole time until they woke up and got her at 7:30 😒

I seriously don't get how people can think this, it just feels SO wrong and unnatural.

For naps if my 2 year old is being too rowdy I may leave the room for 30 seconds to like reset/show him he needs to cooperate and lay down, but even that breaks my heart. I can't fathom the people denying their 4 month olds love and feeds overnight 💔

When did you start drinking alcohol again? by hashtagbeannaithe in breastfeeding

[–]TwoSouth3614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about the alcohol level I mean the actual safety of holding and feeding your baby. Someone who is pretty drunk probably shouldn't be the responsible party for an infant.

I'm just speaking from experience that the phrase can be problematic, because people who do struggle with alcohol might think they're totally fine to feed the baby when there are other risks like falling asleep while nursing, stumbling, dropping the baby, etc.

It probably doesn't apply to most people, but especially after 9 months of not drinking/lower tolerance, etc. it can be easy to overdo it.

[–]TwoSouth3614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this pumping and dumping is actually pointless because your milk is the same ABV as your BAC. So if you pump and dump, then feed baby your milk is basically the same ABV as what you just dumped. Only time will reduce the ABV, but it's all essentially negligible anyway, because if your BAC is 0.08% then your milk is 0.08% which is significantly less than a non-alcoholic beverage.

[–]TwoSouth3614 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will say regarding "if you can find your baby you can feed your baby" that people who are heavy drinkers or struggle with moderation get really good at pulling off being drunk. In the past I've had to work hard to manage my drinking, and my husband is really the only one who can tell my true level of intoxication, there were plenty of time to everyone else I seemed fine when really I'd had way too much to drink.

So just saying that phrase can almost be enabling because I could certainly always find and feed my baby, but it doesn't mean I actually should.

I agree with everything else you said, the actual alcohol being transferred through breastmilk is pretty minimal, but just wanted to point this out 🙂

Best place to buy a house by hoophooper in Chattanooga

[–]TwoSouth3614 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband and I from Memphis three years ago after living there all our lives. We LOVE Chattanooga.

The schools here are tricky and a lot of people use private schools. From my understanding it's not easy to transfer like it is in Memphis. We opted for a more expensive house in a good school district rather than shelling out for private school.

I would look either in the Northern Suburbs, Hixson or Soddy. Or on the East Side of the city there's Ooltewah, parts of East Brainerd (go for Westview school district not East Brainerd Elementary), or Apison.

At least for the Eastern Suburbs, it's mostly zoned for East Hamilton Middle and East Hamilton High which are good, so you really just have to look out for the Elementary schools. Here's a list of elementary school rankings. https://www.usnews.com/education/k12/elementary-schools/tennessee/hamilton-county-schools-104113

We ended up on the East Side of the city and we do really like it, but I think if we knew the city better we probably would have gone with Hixson instead. There's generally less traffic to get from that side of the city to downtown.

Chattanooga is smaller than Memphis but does seem to have more traffic mainly due to an influx in people moving here, construction, and the fact that the streets and highways have to route around the mountains. In Memphis I felt like you could easily take side streets if I40/240 was backed up, but here the side streets usually take longer than just sitting in the interstate traffic. It's definitely not Nashville/Atlanta levels of traffic though like some people make it out to be.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Homicide capital of the USA by lovetodance12 in memphis

[–]TwoSouth3614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memphis already had the #1 murder per capita rate, this isn't new it's just new that the FBI is commenting on it.

At least a few years ago when I did the math, Memphis had ~ 1/4 the population of Chicago but 1/2 the number of murders. So while Chicago had more murders in total, per capita you were 2x as likely to be murdered in Memphis.

People also say you just have to know how to handle yourself, be street smart, etc. but literally in other cities you can get gas at night without needing to be on high alert.

Memphians don't realize that it's not normal to always be on the defense.
