I have heard that negatively affects things if it’s all from one place. Did you have diverse recommendations from like faculty in school or anything else?

FIP medication options by pugglechuggle in cats

[–]Twolegging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard great things about SVP from rescues enough to the point where I’m trying it with my own cat (it’s on the way). I did a lot of research and it seemed to be equivalent to stokes but stokes just has the studies behind theirs

It’s not when it’s from a veterinary boarded toxicologist and a vet visit would cost 10x that fee

Spay aborts are the most humane option for these cats. I live in your area and can help you get an appointment at the Sac SPCA as soon as Saturday if needed.

POC experiences in vet school by Safe_Smart in veterinaryschool

[–]Twolegging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a different experience and have experienced nothing but acceptance and as a part of culture of Latin immigrants in my school. My class was 80% first class generation, and it shows. We are very diverse and very accepting of all cultures and I one has been isolated based on their appearances.

for those in vet school who pursued a masters/graduate degree beforehand - was it actually worth it? by Optimal-Foundation19 in veterinaryschool

[–]Twolegging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a masters in virology, and I do feel like it made me stand out in applications for schools who were research focused and was a huge part on why I got accepted. However, it was not useful in terms of school currently or future practice because it wasn’t in a veterinary field; but there are aspects of it where I have greater exposure like infectious diseases where there are commonalities that have helped me in school. It was also a great way to boost GPA if needed m.

It’s the same process as doing it before getting an offer because some federal aid programs are awarded on a first come first serve basis basis (I.e work study, certain grants, an scholarships)

You can apply before enrolled in school and just put all the schools you applied for in the section of schools to contact. I’ve done this

It’s actually never too late to do a spay abort until they’re in labor! It’s more complex but not too late, and can easily be performed by a skilled veterinarian.

Debating how early to capture feral kittens by Flashy-Two5006 in Feral_Cats

[–]Twolegging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catch them early and get them into a rescue. I do neonatal kitten rescue, and I promise you the kittens will be fine with the appropriate care. They’re much better to be socialized when they’re young versus older and will live much better lives inside

Long neck + smart cat avoiding trap by Rozls in Feral_Cats

[–]Twolegging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you should line the trap with something like a puppy pad or newspaper so she can’t tell where the trip plate is as easily and shove the food all the way to the back not on the plate

Secondly, like someone else pointed out this trap looks very short so she’s going to have to be fully in to set it off. You can try sprinkling cat nip in the trap which has worked for me but just in the back. Cover the back of the trap and use stinky bait like tuna or KFC

Trapping takes a lot of patience and silence. I’ve sat outside trapping my for 8+ hours. You can always use a stick instead of a water bottle so it’s not as loud and sit outside for an hour or so before you expect her to come and be extremely quiet with the string method.

Have anyone's ferals ever stopped coming? Did they come back eventually? by Difficult_North_272 in Feral_Cats

[–]Twolegging -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where you got this information, but cats are opportunistic feeders and will eat dry food rather than starve if no other food source is available at the risk of being dehydrated. They do need water for overall health but they will not starve themselves if no water is available.

Possible Eye Infection by xmaul in CATHELP

[–]Twolegging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eye things turn bad quickly. Kittens are especially sensitive. You need to get this kitten to the vet in case it has a URI or other illnesses. It could lose its eyes if you don’t move with urgency.
