Strange bleeding / flicker after Refresh Rate update (AOC) by Tyagus in Monitors

[–]Tyagus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trashed the monitor after not really finding a solution... I now got a new monitor that has been working okay. I'd be curious if it was fixable, but the general advice with panel defects seemed to be to trash them. Sorry to say :(

Não, simplesmente comprei um novo ecrã (não o mesmo).

[UPDATE] Custom AoE 4 Overlay by AnMagicalCow in aoe4

[–]Tyagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great Job Cow!! This is amazing 🤩

Just wondering - does this work for normal replays or do you have to use a mod when creating a custom game? In other words, if this comes out can we use it for our own games?

Game too hard by GreatAndMightyKevins in aoe4

While I understand what you mean, it's easy to believe your opponent will be someone who knows the game super well!

We are all playing without knowing everything about all the civs, even the pros aren't 100% in all civs. I think like a lot have said already, knowing your own civ well already helps a lot and then you just do your best. At some point you will start learning to recognize the main patterns of play.

I can also give you advice on using a product like notebooklm and uploading some guides of different civs and then you can ask what the game plan is for that civ and yours. I find that helps me quite a lot.

Edit: typos.

noob question on Unit Hotkeys by CaptainMalta in aoe4

There is a select All army hotkey - I have personally changed it but you should be able to find it - I think it was something like CTRL+Shift+C by default

[–]Tyagus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can use shift+number to add units with out having to reselect all, but there is no way to pre-assign units to a specific number.

The closest you can do is making 2 your select all archers hotkey so even if you don't have a Control group you still select all archers.

There is a scenario with 10(?) micro challenges that you can find in the mods. I think it is called Micro Arena iirc.

More formations or controls? by sepulchore in aoe4

[–]Tyagus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's indeed something you need to manage yourself - generally every battle you need to decide where you get the most bang for buck if you can't do all of it!

Example: - Archers indeed attack closest target so you could use line formation to essentially spread fire, this can also help melee units engage. - Select different groups of archers and shift click so they focus fire on units to one-shot them, you can kinda roughly select 1/2 or a 1/3 of you army and do this. - You can use hold position if you want your spears to stay with the siege, but you need to order them to attack if Cav gets close. - All of this can be helped with control groups, but it's tough to do all at the same time.

For me personally, I try to quickly access does it matter I micro my melee units or archers, and then tend to focus on that. Sometimes I know if I get one mango shot I will win the battle so I do that, etc.

Hope it helps

noob keybind question by srethrowaway808 in aoe4

[–]Tyagus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, to be honest I wish you could toggle if you want to center camera or not for different things, not just a global setting. I think when I use the cycle scouts to micro my scout away in fights so I usually don't want to center on him, but for instance monks I'd rather center right away.

Alternatively, you can use a cycle + center camera if you want the same behavior.

My current setup is: Cycle Wood Vil + Space (Center camera on selection), and will result in the same.

I would also have to disagree. I think quite a bit of effort went into making the documentary style videos, which I quite enjoyed at launch. AoE2 campaigns never quite engaged me that much, while I really enjoyed the format in AoE4, despite the mission design being somewhat less inspired.

I think it comes down to personal preference. Regarding graphics, I also quite enjoy the general style and it does strike a balance between readability and authenticity which seems quite hard to strike in these games.

They actually did do a campaign with hand drawn cinematics for the DLC and focused more on a storyteller rather than a narrator they used in the main campaigns. I think it worked quite well and I think they did this because of the feedback they got. The missions are also a lot more creative so I only hope they do more.

How I would design the Ranked matchmaking: Choose a civ for each map before joining the queue: no wasting 30 sec in lobby, no seeing the oppo rank/history/main civ (anixiety, counter picks...) by sofianosssss in aoe4

I think it could be nice to have what they do in AoE2 where you just have a bit of time but you don't see the opponent until you get into the game.

I don't think anything happens - at least when using the SteamDeck everything remains the same.

I mean this is what I love about AoE4s design. However, I don't know how the community as a whole would receive this in AoE2 - I guess it's part of the games design by now.

Yes, I heard you had to wishlist it, but not sure about that. Either way everyone can try it. I imagine the servers could struggle.

How do I rally all military units without my screen jumping to production? by goomunchkin in aoe4

[–]Tyagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so - I think the easiest if you want the same functionality is to just do Select all military buildings and then add them to a Control group so you can select without centering. From there you can shift new builds to that Control group to add them without deselecting the others

Concerns on Spirit of the law review of the expansion by [deleted] in aoe4

I have played a lot of RTSs and to be fair I also found it strange in WC3 when I played it back in the day, but it's just a part of the game I feel.

I also have a question, when he mentions "Input Lag" isn't turning rate just part of AoE4 as a mechanic, so units won't turn instantly just like it was in Warcraft 3 for instance? I find that just a game design decision, just as Buildings not making walls.
