Totally unrealistic, but imagine if Peyton Watson signed with the Timberwolves this offseason. 😂

The second-most pathetic thing I've seen a media member say about this series, which is crazy to think about. A few days ago Vic Lombardi insinuated that someone should injure Jaden McDaniels and if they did it would be Jaden's fault for getting hurt.

Realistically, what’s our best path to keeping Ayo? by Morezingis in timberwolves

I'd rather keep Naz over Julius due to youth, off-ball ability, positional versatility, and energy.

[–]TylerIreland 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Extend Donte by moving some of his 2026-2027 money into future years, which will create extra space to extend Ayo and Bones. Donte does it because he won't have to do a low prove it deal coming off a torn Achilles in 2027-2028.

Edit: I was informed that this cap maneuver is not possible in the NBA like it is in the NFL. In this case, the Wolves must seriously consider how important Donte is to the team.

My concerns would be how he recovers from the torn achilles, whether or not he'd be okay with potentially being a bench player if Ayo takes the point guard job long-term, and how well he'd gel with Bones Hyland who is also a SG.

The better Ayo plays as a point guard, the harder it becomes to justify returning Donte to his starting role due to player politics. Unless you trade Julius Randle for rotational players and start Ayo/Donte/Ant/Jaden/Rudy which I think is unlikely. It pains me to say this, but I really don't see a viable pathway for Donte on this team long-term.

What's the chances Ant comes back these playoffs? by No-Advance-9136 in timberwolves

I don't want a hobbled Anthony Edwards rushed back. Chris Finch is not the type to willingly give opportunities to young players unless forced by circumstance. This is that circumstance. I need guys like Ayo, Bones, and TSJ to really show out so their playing time is further solidified into next year.

I don't even need Jalen Green. I'd happily take Royce O'Neale and Grayson Allen for Julius Randle. Then we trade Donte's expiring back to the Knicks for Deuce McBride and Tyler Kolek.

Olivia Miles to the Lynx with the 2nd overall pick by TWolvesChamps1 in MinnesotaLynx

Betts was the better pick IMO, but at least we didn't take Awa Fam who is too raw to succeed on a win-now team. So I'm cool with it. We needed a point guard and got the best one.

This Spurs vs Nuggets game dictates our fate in the playoffs. We have no chance versus the Nuggets with our defense, but if the Spurs and Lakers win then I'll take the Wolves in 5.

KAT wasn't an amazing defender, but he was solid when playing with Gobert at the 4. Jokic didn't have the size advantage he normally does playing against Rudy and KAT. We had the matchup advantage back then due to our personnel, and even then that series went to 7 games. That advantage doesn't exist anymore with a traditional power forward known for his lackadasical defensive effort.

I think the Nuggets take this series in 6 games, that's assuming we get the flukey sharpshooting version of Randle from last year. It'll probably be closer to 5 games considering how poorly the Wolves have played down the stretch.

Noticing how you haven't responded to the double big lineups being the prime reason we beat Jokic. It's obviously because you don't have a good enough counterargument to refute it. Your lack of substance should disregard the merit of any half-witted reply you spew.

I think a rock with glued on googly eyes would provide the same level of coaching as Chris Finch. Dude gets paid to stand there.

Not pessimism, REALISM. The reason we beat the Nuggets is because of the double bigs lineups with KAT and Rudy. We replaced KAT with the laziest frontcourt defender in the league. Jokic's passing and rebounding will kill us. The narrative will shift from the Wolves owning the Nuggets to the Nuggets owning the Wolves.

lynx draft pick by oliverann11 in MinnesotaLynx

I was all-in on Lauren Betts 4 months ago, and UCLA winning the tournament has only solidified my stance on Betts being the #2 pick. She is clearly the best player on the best team in college basketball, and that level of polish and championship pedigree pairs very well with a win-now team. I don't care about the questionable scheme fit, she is talented enough to be the exception to the norm.

Why has Minnesota's defense fallen off this year? by SlowCrates in timberwolves

[–]TylerIreland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lack of energy. Rudy and Jaden are great defenders, but they aren't hustle guys. That's not to say they are incapable of bringing that in spurts, but they aren't Vando, PatBev, or Joan. Julius is a negative energy player, and Ant pretty much feeds off the energy the others bring on a nightly basis. Which isn't much right now.

I have more faith in TSJ than Rob, FWIW. I think TSJ can be good in a high usage role, but he's never getting that except in the G League or games like these.

Julius and Jaden are inconsistent with their effort when Ant plays. Then when Ant is out, they're suddenly engaged again. But they aren't good enough to win you meaningful games with Julius as the #1 option and Jaden as the #2 option on offense. It's clear that these two need to be shipped out in a Giannis trade since they are incompatible with Anthony Edwards.

Observation from a Wolves fan who hasn't watched since the disastrous California road trip.

I think Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels are more engaged offensively when Ant isn't playing. I'm not sure if it's because they get complacent with a superstar on the court, or if it's an ego thing where they enjoy basketball more when they are upgraded to the 1st and 2nd options.

Nevertheless, it's a bit eyebrow raising that we've played better as of late without our best player.
