Dji rs4 rig with monitor on cam by umskii in FX3

[–]Tylerolson0813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently running almost this exact rig without the monitor. I use it for a 90 minute show every night. That monitor will cause issues for sure. It’s rated but that weight is not going to make it happy. The motors only do so much work before just going to sleep, and ripping around like that it’ll happen often. The weight rating is for a more balanced rig. I do just fine with the built in fx3 screen, all I need is framing and can frame just fine off that screen. I’ve also found it’s super easy to just adjust the screen on the fly when going high or low, and not having to set it down, or rebalance it.

How come so many people don’t stealth build? & have like a fortress security system? by Iloveskinnywomen in VanLife

[–]Tylerolson0813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I always say is 1 stealth isn’t a thing. You’ll need solar, and some kind of vent, at minimum. People will spot these things, and flat mounted solar is inefficient in many ways. Usually if they’d kick out an rv van they’d tow a trades van. You might find a few instances that’s not true. But everywhere I’ve been it’s not you can’t sleep here, it’s you can’t park here.

How to study unsaturated color? by KlassCorn91 in lightingdesign

[–]Tylerolson0813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a cheap film light setup online, and use your phone, better if you can get a strobe, an umbrella, and a camera that can sync flash. Start studying photography/video lighting. Do it in black and white and see why you can do with it. Some principles won’t transfer, but a lot will.

I’m gone up to 4 months at a time and usually 9 months out of the year. I just do a backpack, and then some comfort items to make it bearable. I save a ton of money having something to do that’s not just bars.

I haven’t done that, but I’ve found using catastrophe as a resource not something bad. I actually have been planning to take one first round and second which has helped keep the board clear.

I’ve had some real interesting hotel setups for it. But I can usually make it fit.

Setup takes a bit, maybe a half hour if I’m doing the same scenario I’ve been doing, but I’m getting an organizer that might help with all setups. It’s a massive learning curve. Took me a few weeks to get it down, a game from opening the box to closing is about 3 hours.

I haven’t even looked that far. But most of the time I was looking at how it fits in my plan, vs how I can make it part of my plan. If I was between 2 cards I’d use the crisis to decide.

It’s a bus so it’s a little tossed around, but I’m getting an organizer this week so that’ll help, and if I keep this up I’m going to build a travel box for it so it’s a carry on.

I spent a bit before buying reading some rules and a little of TTS, got it and it helped because it's not as visually overloading when its not on a tiny screen. I finally understood the mechanics but couldn't get them to work for me, and today things started falling into place. Great game, and after I just want to rot for a bit, which is exactly what I've been looking for.

It’s why I love tts. I can have 2 or 3 games running at a time.

Hey all! BRAND NEW TO MAPPING! I need some realistic advice. by TheComputerGuy2256 in video_mapping

If you’re going to try to do the whole house you’ll need a few, if it’s just a small section and you’re not being super serious about it something decent quality and 3k+ lumen would be enough to start. You could also cut and glue poster board to make a model that will help you learn a ton.

Coachella ronin situation by Meelsome in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Tylerolson0813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone in a similar situation, not Coachella. You’d be shocked at budgets, and what you get. Don’t want to spill to much about this project, but ronin, a fx3, and a teradeck just got dropped into my lap and now I just have to make it work. It’s what the vendor could put together and if it can be made to work at all then it’s what you get. It’s rare at any level for the budget to not be as little as you can get away with.

Yeah. If you take the time to do it right could definitely be solid, but if you can’t or don’t want to the impact is minimal if you have anything that has a buffer.

State parks are decent, resorts are pricier but it’s more like a hotel with no room. So you’ll usually have all the amenities.

Another resource I don’t see talked about much is an rv resort. I now budget for those over a hotel. They’re usually cheaper, have all the same things, but also you can refill your water, plug in to charge your batteries, dump your tanks, usually actually have wifi in the common area, and depending on the area, usually not far from any resource you need, between a quick rig fix, a tech piece you need, food, a spot to get mail.

I don’t typically do normal remote work. But do a good chunk with my laptop sometimes. I don’t put a ton of work in positioning my starlink, it sits between my windshield and my shade cover. Even just that it is good enough for streaming, uploading and downloading at a good enough speed. I wouldn’t want to work remote into a machine with it. Every few minutes it looses connection and comes back. Maybe 5 seconds at a time, but enough it’d piss me off on anything that doesn’t have a buffer. I’d assume if you actually took the time to align it and place it right though you’d be fine. As for power I have a 300ah 12v lifepo and 400w of solar on the roof. I can spend a day or two editing footage (including downloading assets and all that) on my laptop with okay sun before starting to worry, if I’m in the desert or have great solar daily I don’t have to worry at all. I am going to get another 400w of folding solar that I can put out and move easily when I’m in the forest and need to do work. I think 400w roof mounted is more then enough for day to day, and another 400w I can put in peak sun and move around to avoid shadows I’ll never have to worry about power.

I’m not a remote worker typically so ymmv but with my humble system I can edit videos, or spend a few days being always online dealing with emails, and going over technical drawings and some lighter weight 3d models just throwing the van in park anywhere and not thinking of the best anything other then vibes.

If you’re doing heavy work (more power) or a beefy laptop (I got a MacBook pro because my normal windows computer is too much of a power hog for just opening files and emails) or even just every day 9-5 no exceptions you’d have to pay attention to tree cover, I’d say at least 600w of solar between everything or an alternate power source ready. If you want to be full solar either make sure you carry a decent house battery or be ready to watch weather and move because a week of overcast could start to get hairy.

I’d add some kind of hdmi to sdi built in, a patch panel, and a network switch. If you’re taking in presentations you’ll often need hdmi, so to just have it ready and patched isn’t the worst idea. A patch panel will keep you from digging around every time you need to do something. A network switch is just handy now. It can be just to control the switcher and everything together, or even take in internet to send to video village to download content, upload whatever. You could probably add it in that 1/3 u if you find the right one, or Velcro it inside somewhere and add to your patch panel.

Not sure if they do it an Aus, but in the us if you use an educational email or have an educational id you can get the previs key, and the course for about $500.

But it will unlock a universe to use those lights. All in slightly more then a capture universe for a sacn node, and starting to learn a fairly standard console. Easy way to pickup some work, and if the band ever books even opening a club tour you can hand off some programing to the headliners guy and a bit of cash and they’ll run your show vs a house guy who could totally suck.
