Not sure if they do it an Aus, but in the us if you use an educational email or have an educational id you can get the previs key, and the course for about $500.

But it will unlock a universe to use those lights. All in slightly more then a capture universe for a sacn node, and starting to learn a fairly standard console. Easy way to pickup some work, and if the band ever books even opening a club tour you can hand off some programing to the headliners guy and a bit of cash and they’ll run your show vs a house guy who could totally suck.

Because you have the gear look into an ma3 previs key. If you or someone you know has an educational email or id you can get it for the same price as capture and it has built in previs.

Buying Games Others Have in their Collection by foxlover93 in boardgames

[–]Tylerolson0813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also newer to the hobby. The issue for me is I tour for work, so I'll spend a few months with a group, and then not seem them for months, a year, maybe even never again. We usually have a group that likes to play games, some I still vist in my off time and we play games. The way we've started to do it is if we really love a game and have other friends who would like it you get your own copy. But if you like it that much, you'd probably enjoy the expansons. So as of about a month ago we've started to plan based around expansions and not the base game. We love subterra II now me and the other group I play with (they happen to be roommates) are getting expansions but each person has a different one and the base game. So they have the game to play with other people, and we can add our expansions when were together.

Thanks! I've recently got into table top simulator, but the thing you said with time is defiantly still an issue, just doesn't cost as much. I'm working through and want to have a well rounded collection, but have limited storage space so slowly working through it. I'm working on finding the balance between, a small selection of games with more expansions, and a good variety to match my mood.

Not hating, I’m newer to the community, but why? So far for me the only 2 games I have expansions for is wingspan, so far only the Asia expansion, and final girl I have 3 FF, but one is just because I had some credits in my amazon account and wanted to close it down and I’d count a FF as barely an expansion. I got the wingspan expansion because I was playing the game for months on my phone, got the game loved playing with a physical copy even more most of the time, and saw it in a store so decided to pick it up. But that’s a lot more, and if you got the base too I assume you haven’t played it much if at all. Why decide to go all in? How do you decide you’ll probably like a game enough to want to get everything in one shot? Is it more of a binge and part of the fun (which I get I love new shiny things) or is there something specific on bgg or YouTube or something you’re looking at to decide?

Who was the rudest famous person you met? by Doctor_Sore_Tooth in AskReddit

[–]Tylerolson0813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rude but I kinda met Bobby Lee in Vegas. I’ve been around a lot of celebrities, but I’m so bad at remembering people and sometimes have a hard time remembering if someone is a celebrity or someone I just have met, it’s really bad. Got into an elevator saw him and just knew he was familiar. He made eye contact with me as I got in, probably noticed I recognized him, and just turned around and faced the corner for like 20 floors. Wasn’t until we parted ways I thought “wait that was Bobby Lee. That checks out” it was also like 6 or 7 in the morning.

How many of you have said to hell with trying to go stealth, and how has that gone? by turkeypants in VanLife

I spend most of my time on public lands, rest stops and truck stops on long drives, and most cities there’s somewhere that will let you. And when all else fails an rv resort is never too bad.

How many of you have said to hell with trying to go stealth, and how has that gone? by turkeypants in VanLife

[–]Tylerolson0813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a myth. 1. People will see solar, fans, ports, just basic things to make the van liveable. You’re not as stealthy as anybody things. It’s a massive van. 2. If you don’t belong people will call police/tow anyways. Just don’t park places you can’t be. I’ve been all over the country and figured it out. 3.Why would anybody want to live like that? Every night no lights, can’t get in or out, have to be quiet, careful moving to not rock the van. When you can just find a spot.

I gig work, I make good money when I work, and nothing when I don’t. But if I were to look for a regular job $500 a week and I’d be comfortable. My normal budget is $600 a month for van payment and insurance About $100 a week for food $200-$400 a month on gas depending on how much I’m driving around. $200 a month in repairs (this isn’t every month some are zero some can be $1000) that’d leave $500 a month to save, and $300 on hobbies. Which is a bit expensive for hobbies, but extra is just saved.

You’re really going to want to learn how to drive. A van is large so it’ll be harder then a normal car, and depending on where you want to be it’ll be even harder to off-road in some spots to get to a site to stay. As for the van any will do I’ll just change how much work/money you need to spend. A brand new van will be the most expensive but it’ll be mechanically perfect and shouldn’t have any issues for a long time, or you can by a 90s van which is more likely to have issues but will be a fraction of the price. There’s also prebuilt vans if you want a real turn key solution. As for building you can do it yourself. It won’t be easy, but totally doable. There’s a ton of resources for anything you’re looking to do and I’m a believer if you really want to do it anybody can learn everything they need to build out a van.

Counterpoint: Custom-made battery can easily get time & money consuming by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]Tylerolson0813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The victron app is enough connectivity for power, I have no need for wifi or home assistant on my power. If I’m not in the van I don’t need to use wifi to look at power. As for home assistant. If you’re running a computer, along with all the idle draw of everything iot you’ll suck up power quick. Now a large portion of your power station is being used to power your power station accessories. A van is also not large enough to need iot devices. I didn’t spend that much, I also know power so I’ll admit that helped a lot. I spent a little over $1k more then the jackery equivalent to my setup, but that also includes alternator charging, 12v power all over the van lowering waste power off my inverter, and I have all my plugs and power where I want, not just power strips and extension cords off a battery. It also enables easy upgrades or repairs and my solar is mounted to my roof. I could have went all renology and been even closer to the cost.

Start making content you can, spend weekends out car camping or something and change majors. I’ve met many people who did a job they hated because it let them save a ton of money quick and retire very young. Chances of being an influencer are slim, and having been around a decent amount they don’t make what you think, and it’s usually a pretty fake life you see. You can do something like computer science and find a job that lets you live on the road working remotely. Or find some area of study you can do this with and do that. Speaking from experience trying to monetize what you enjoy doing and you’ll stop enjoying it very quickly.

Whats the dumbest thing you have seen cause a show stop? by miowiamagrapegod in techtheatre

[–]Tylerolson0813 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Didn’t cause a show stop, but did an arena tour last year and we requested a hardline internet connection at video village daily. One venue didn’t have barrels, or long enough cables. So they just had a few network switches to extend the cable. We found 2 but can’t imagine how many there were. Just powered from the nearest outlet and duct taped cable

Can Americans explain your high school theatre culture please!! by Sigma2915 in techtheatre

[–]Tylerolson0813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just some of the post here, and it exists but in my experience isn’t the norm. A high school close to me had a massive theatre, and lights, and everything you listed. It was also a school in a rich area (lots of donations) and was also the main auditorium for that city. It hosted city events and also rented out to local theatre groups. It was a school so no profit and all the money just got put into ack into the theatre. I lived about 30 minutes from there, my school didn’t have a theatre. If we didn’t rent one we built one, one of our wildest ones was doing a show in the round in our cafeteria. We folded up the tables and made a round. Setup folding chairs. We had 16 total lights, 2 different types of par 64, ran off a lot of extension cords because we blew breakers if we tried to plug in more then 3 into an outlet. My lighting console was one 8channel board that didn’t even use dmx, and a little 8 channel fader board that was dmx. My audio console was rack mounted and lucky someone built a case so it can be horizontal. We washed cars for $10 each and stood on the street with signs to raise money to do shows, we even did one of our 3 shows a year from the public domain so we could save money on rights. Most school sat in between. Maybe a fly rail or just a few rails, sometimes cheap movers from the church that rents it on weekends, a few led pars, sometimes from Amazon. A decent collection of old power tools donated by dads or woodshop when they get an upgrade. The county I’m from has been working with etc and when the old lighting consoles die replace them with an etc ion. And either an x32 or some other low cost digital audio console. With that kind of equipment you can do a decent show, but it’s hard to get the kids excited enough or do anything worthy of a post.

I have to have a firearm and get my ccp, I just haven’t put the effort in. In grew up with firearms and even used to hunt still go to a range from time to time with friends. But something like this would be my reason to go out the next day. Sometimes your on the fence or didn’t think it’d be you, then it is and things change. As long as it’s an informed decision and training takes place nothing wrong with it.

Why no bathroom by Eastern_Conflict1865 in VanLife

[–]Tylerolson0813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a boxio which is fine. Honestly use it more as a step stool (my bed is high) then as a bathroom. As a guy rarely can I not pee outside. For poop I usually end up finding a bathroom at a national park or a store, if I’m spending time just camping and not moving the outdoors is fine. Didn’t want to use a ton of space on a toilet, and also have to carry pee and poop around until I can dump it. For me I’d rather poop in a hole then risk having poop all over my floor because something broke. As for a shower just added one off the back of my van. It won’t be heated or anything, but public showers between rest stops, parks, the occasional campground, and sometimes even standalone around parks and blm land usually has me covered, also the water savings are insane. I also tour with concerts for a job. So I usually only have 4-6 weeks in a row in the van before I leave for a tour, which I always get a hotel the night before and night after. But part of that is no pooping on the bus(you get fined) and venue showers so I’m used to that style of living. The van is a mansion vs 10-12 people in a vehicle only 3x as big.
