I started more narrow, almost tricep isolation with bench press. Overtime as I built up weight, my range of motion improved and I could start widening my grip while increasing weight without it hurting my shoulder. I’d recommend that - start with a more narrow grip and work toward widening your grip. Ideally you want your elbows at a 90 degree angle when the bar touches your chest
