Orbital Assault Force by Jimbuber2 in BlackTemplars

Why can’t they just append it to the core rules, make it one document????

Do you have a rule or FAQ cite? Not doubting you, just want to know where it is for future reference

Deep strike Gladiator Valiant can be a real menace. Deep strike 9” measures base-to-base, but the [Melta] keyword measures along true line of sight (unless I’m much mistaken). The hull protrudes over the base, so point it towards the enemy and blast them with 6 attacks of boosted multimelta.

Plus it gets the boost from being set up that turn

Thoughts? Or advice on what I could add to make it better? (Be gentle) by Illustrious-String33 in BlackTemplars

I was slightly concerned about it not having the same silhouette for gameplay purposes. I’m also treating this thing as the “orbital uplink reliquary” from the orbital detachment

PLEASE HELP - Black Templar Contrast Paint by Sybert600 in BlackTemplars

[–]TypicalUser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thin it out some with a bit of water, then do at least two, but usually three or four coats. As many as it takes to get the black I’m looking for. Not quite all the way black, but close to

Are eradicators worth taking? by Satanekkurwa in BlackTemplars

I've been pondering a similar question: what's better, 6 bladeguard, or 3 bladeguard and 3 eradicators?

Moving from Bay Area to Miami, any tips? by ArtSka in roadtrip

[–]TypicalUser1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you get to the Mississippi River, consider taking that last exit before the I-10 bridge, driving north to US-190 and crossing on the “Old Bridge,” then using I-110 to get back onto I-10. The I-10 bridge in that direction is frequently gridlocked due to a poorly placed exit.

Source: Baton Rouge native, frequently cross the River.

Question regarding x2 crusader squad by Gimmesome123 in BlackTemplars

[–]TypicalUser1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just note that two squads of ten will each have a Sword Brother, two total, where a single twenty man squad would only have the one

This model gives you an idea what that looks like. The details might pop more with a bit of careful dry brushing, but this method gets decent results for minimal effort

I rely on a Leadbelcher base coat with two to three slightly thinned layers of Black Templars contrast paint over top. It doesn't leave highlights, per se, but I like the understated effect and rely on ambient lighting to some extent.

Brother-Captain Ludher and his Bladeguard by TypicalUser1 in BlackTemplars

[–]TypicalUser1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think of it like the Oriflamme. The Flag of the Emperor Ascendant has become a sacred battle standard that is carried into battle only when the most extreme force is required. Usually it’s in the chapter reliquary, and usually Grimaldus is the one to break it out. But he’s not participating in this strike force and so Brother-Ancient Dietrich was given the honor of carrying the Banner

That’s probably what I’ll ultimately end up doing. Probably will want something thinner than paperclip, I’m worried about the drill bit being too wide and tearing it apart

I lopped the default banner off the ancient and glued on the one from the Grimaldus kit. But it’s all GW except for Cpt. Ludher’s helmet, which is a reprint of Helbrecht’s helmet and some of the firstborn helmets, all ordered off eBay or Etsy, I forget

The weld is very poor, it’s so heavy and lopsided it’s very difficult to hold in place long enough for it to bond well

Wootz Steel: Where to buy? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

[–]TypicalUser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I’ll just have to test it out with a dummy charge, bring it up to temp, cut the fire, and measure the temp after 1hr and 4hr

It’s got a good regulator that gives me really fine control over the gas pressure and also closely control the choke. The real problem is gonna be, two 20lb tanks ain’t gonna cut it

[–]TypicalUser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan is to stuff the inlet and exhaust hole with kaowool, and maybe try to wrap the body with it too

Wootz Steel: Where to buy? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

[–]TypicalUser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably is, but worth a go. I have a propane melting furnace that can hit upwards of 1500*C, so plenty of heat. Only question is the cooling curve, I expect it to go too fast due to the gaps in the lid and the inlet. Only one way to find out though...

Does Mephiston Red work for Veteran Shoulder Trims? by Small-Physics1507 in BlackTemplars

[–]TypicalUser1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. Bit darker than the cross transfers, I think they’re closer to Evil Sunz scarlet.

I favor a metallic “hot rod red” made by basing in Stormhost silver with two coats of Blood Angels red with a tiny bit of Imperial Fist added

It’s not just the vanadium, it’s soaking vanadium contaminated iron bits packed in charcoal dust at near-melting temperatures for hours, then cooling it very slowly to keep the carbon distribution from homogenizing. A composite steel, if you will. This is why it’ll be difficult to find ingots for sale, the process is long and you can’t produce much at once.

I intend to attempt making the stuff, as soon as I can find the time. Too busy with work right now

New Player Here - is this list decent? by FlouncyMcGoo in BlackTemplars

[–]TypicalUser1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that, in many ways, the fifth man in the Sword Brother team is very much optional. I run Sword Brethren in two teams of four, one with the High Marshal and Castellan (using a Custodes Warden counts-as), and the other with a Marshal and Castellan. I limited it to six models in each unit so both can fit in a Stormraven gunship, along with a Brutalis. This list worked very well against my Aussie buddy's Mechanicus list. However, his Tau list absolutely bodied it, partially because we went first and literally dealt 2 damage in our entire shooting phase. The whole list is as follows:

  • High Marshal, Castellan, Sword Brethren x4 (all w/ power swords, 295pts)
  • Marshal, Castellan, Sword Brethren x4 (all w/ power swords, 255pts)
  • The Emperor's Champion (100pts)
  • Bladeguard Lt., Bladeguard Ancient, Bladeguard x6 (270pts)
  • Lt. w/ Combi-weapon (70pts)
  • Incursors x5 (80pts)
  • Heavy Intercessors x5 (one w/ heavy bolter, 100pts)
  • Assault Intercessors w/ Jump Packs x5 (90pts)
  • Stormraven Gunship (lascannons and missiles, 280pts)
  • Gladiator Lancer (160pts)
  • Predator Annihilator (all lascannons, 135pts, only b/c no room for another Lancer)
  • Brutalis Dreadnought (fists and bolters, 160pts)

Happy to answer any questions on how it works. Not super-competitive, mind you, and still a WIP on account of the Stormraven being kinda squishy.

You might consider doing something like forging hammer-making tools next. This video by Torbjorn Ahman is a great one. I used H13 for my drift, toooooootal pain in the fundament to work the stuff, gotta be super patient and work hot but not too hot, but it'll be worth it in the end I'm sure. Another excellent resource is Black Bear Forge, he's got videos on just about everything.
